In just these three days, something terrible happened.
After the old man's funeral was over, everyone realized that the family in the old man's backyard hadn't been seen for several days.
Someone approached Xiao Aimin and told him about it.
Xiao Aimin scratched his head; he had a headache.
I was worried that something bad had happened again.
He quickened his pace and found the scorekeeper: "What's the situation with Old He's family? They said they haven't come to work for several days?"
The scorekeeper didn't even flip through the book in his hand before replying with a strange expression, "They said it was a relative's wedding, and they asked the whole family to go, so they took three days off."
Xiao Aimin put the pipe he had just pulled from his waist back down.
A look of confusion crossed his face: "Three days off, why didn't you tell me?"
The scorekeeper lowered his head, nervously rubbing the grass under his feet: "He begged me not to say anything, saying it would only be for three days, and he would come to work after three days. I thought he was usually quite proactive, so this time he must have really something on his mind, and I didn't say anything."
Xiao Aimin was speechless. He pointed at the girl and said, "You're really something. You didn't say anything about this. Do you know what a disaster has happened? Their family are refugees who came here from famine. They don't have any relatives here at all!"
After saying that, he left the bewildered scorekeeper behind and strode towards Old He's house.
When we meet someone on the street, we call out to them to come along.
When they arrived at He Laoxi's house, Xiao Aimin pounded on the door: "Laoxi, Laoxi, are you home?"
There was no response.
Xiao Aimin pointed directly at a young man: "You, climb over the wall and go in to see what's going on."
The man nodded: "Okay, Fourth Uncle."
Then, after a few running starts, he jumped up, first using both arms to climb onto the top of the wall, then forcefully swinging his right leg up, and finally sitting on the top of the wall.
Finally, they climbed over the wall to enter the courtyard.
Soon after, the door was opened from the inside.
There was nothing unusual in the yard, except for some loose soil.
Seeing this, Xiao Aimin's eyes flashed, and he shouted, "Don't move! Get out! Get out! Something might have happened!"
Then, pulling the militia captain along, the two cautiously entered the house.
When walking, I also watched my step and avoided places that might be footprints.
The two men peered through the crack in the door and into the room, their faces filled with terror.
