Chapter 459: Establishing a Business and a Family

Before Ling Jiheng left the examination room, the third roommate came back.

I was quite surprised to see guests at home.

After saying hello, he excitedly told the old lady about the Tong family's situation.

"How can I describe her family? It's worse than I imagined, but also better than I thought."

Liang Zhijun talked about her impressions of Tong Sinian and Tong Guitang, greeted the old lady, and said that she planned to bring the Tong family to the provincial capital for resettlement.

The old lady had no objection, as long as the third wife thought it was appropriate.

"So, it doesn't take long to prepare!"

But fortunately, her family is rich, so at most they can just invite more people and make Ji Hao's wedding decent.

"Have you decided where to do it?"

Liang Zhijun smiled and said, "It's right here. It's spacious and there are a lot of people."

The old lady had no objection and let Liang Zhijun go about her business.

Mrs. Huang congratulated the third wife and left to prepare the gift.

I thought the Ling family was really special, they actually chose an ordinary family to marry into.

No wonder they treated Minbo with respect. Only families like this can last long!

So, when Ling Jiheng returned to the Ling family mansion, he saw red silk and red lanterns everywhere.

He raised his eyebrows in surprise and asked a servant, only to find out that the third wife had returned.

Chi Xingyue didn't go to pick him up today, saying that she felt a little uncomfortable in her stomach. Before the exam ended, she sent a note to the space.

Ling Jiheng was terrified, his face turned pale, and he broke out in a cold sweat in the examination room.

When the inspector saw him, he thought he was unwell. He looked at him and asked, "Can you hold on?"

Ling Jiheng looked at the sky, knew it was almost over, and nodded.

Not long after, the gong sounded. The chief examiner came over to collect the papers. Ling Jiheng took a deep breath, gathered his things, and walked out of the Imperial Examination Hall.

He found his own ox cart, said something to the Huang family servant next to him, whipped the cart and left.

He stood out among the candidates who were greeting each other.

But Ling Jiheng didn't care about those things. He put the small table in front of him, wrote a letter, and asked Chi Xingyue what happened and whether she was okay.

Chi Xingyue was lying on the bed. Feeling the movement in the space, he quickly slipped in and picked up his pen to reply.

"It's nothing, the babies are just more active today, practicing boxing in my belly. I'm a little tired and don't feel like moving."

Ling Jiheng breathed a sigh of relief: "It's good that you're okay, it's good that you're okay. Take care of yourself, I'll be back soon."

Chi Xingyue drew a big smiley face on the paper before stepping out. Although it was already the beginning of spring, the weather was still cold.

Lying in the warm quilt was quite hypnotic. Before Ling Jiheng arrived, Chi Xingyue fell asleep.

After Ling Jiheng came back, he first went to the old lady's courtyard to pay his respects, then asked about Ling Jihao's marriage, and then hurried to Qingfeng Courtyard.

Seeing his parents, he just nodded. When he reached the door, he heard no movement, and his heart tightened.

He knocked on the door, only to find it locked, his frown deepened.

I used a little force, which might have disturbed Chi Xingyue.

When Ling Jiheng heard the sound of getting up, he said "I'm coming" to calm his almost irritable mood.

When the door opened, Ling Jiheng saw that she looked lazy and her face was rosy, and he was completely relieved.

He helped the person back and put him to bed. He waited until Chi Xingyue fell asleep again before washing and changing clothes.

Then they went to Rongsiyuan to discuss the imperial examination in detail, and also the marriage between Ling Jiran and Huang Minbo.

The old lady and Mrs. Huang were chatting happily, but none of the parties involved were present.

It was only then that Ling Jiheng realized that his cousin had actually gone to the entrance of the Imperial Examination Hall to pick someone up.

It was all his fault that he was too impatient at the time and didn't look carefully, so he came back.

I don’t know if Ji Ran will be angry.

Ling Jiran, on the other hand, isn't that narrow-minded.

When she heard the servant say that her second brother had left early for something, she didn't think much about it and thought that he might be creating an opportunity for her and Huang Minbo.

The little girl waited in front of the carriage for a long time before Huang Minbo, who looked tired, showed up.

The moment he saw his sweetheart, Huang Minbo's body seemed to be injected with energy.

With sparkling eyes, he trotted over and spoke from three feet away: "Miss Ling!"

Ling Jiran blushed and saluted: "Mr. Huang!"

The two of them haven't gotten engaged yet, so they are very careful about their behavior when interacting with each other.

They looked at each other and smiled foolishly, and one could tell at a glance that they were a couple who had feelings for each other.

This atmosphere was not broken until Ling Jiyi came out.

The three of them were in the same carriage, and as it swayed, Huang Minbo's fiery eyes were always glued to Ling Jiran's face.

She was embarrassed by what she saw.

It was not until he heard the warning, "That's enough," that he touched his nose awkwardly and regained his composure.

The sky darkened and the few of them returned to the Ling family.

Huang Minbo went directly to the old lady to report, and was surprised to find that his mother had come.

I stood there in a daze for a moment, not knowing what to do.

"What are you standing there for? Go!"

Huang Minbo was pushed by Ling Jiyi before he walked up to Madam Huang, put his arms around her, and said tenderly, "Mom!"

This was the longest time he had been separated from his parents, a full thirteen months.

Mrs. Huang patted his thin back, and there was a hint of moisture in the corners of her eyes.

The old lady smiled and asked the two to sit down and talked while they ate.

During the dinner, Huang Minbo and Ling Jiran's marriage was discussed, and the old lady said, "Let's get engaged first, and then choose an auspicious day for the wedding."

Geng Suhua nodded, but caught a glimpse of Ling Jiyi pretending to be a coward out of the corner of her eye.

She immediately became unhappy and asked him, "Your sister is getting married soon, what are your plans?"

Ling Jiyi pursed his lips and said, “Mom, although people say that you should start a family and build a career, I think that you should build a career before you start a family.

Don't worry, I'll get married and have children naturally once I pass the imperial examination!"

Geng Suhua slammed the table and said, "According to what you're saying, an illiterate person will have to be single for the rest of his life?"

Ling Jiyi didn't say anything.

Geng Suhua had no choice but to snort coldly, not even finishing her meal.

Ling Jiren comforted her from the side: "Mom, it's a good thing that my third brother has ambition. As a man, it's no big deal to get married later."

Then bring disaster upon oneself.

"You too, you said you won't marry me, so what are you going to do with Mingyue and Weiwei in the future?"

Ling Jiren hesitated to speak, but finally suppressed the impulse in his throat.

The dinner ended in a bad mood. Ling Jiren rarely had the chance to talk with his son and daughter.

"Yue'er, Weiwei, your mother..." Ling Jiren didn't have the heart to say those bad words.

"What your grandmother said makes sense. You and Weiwei, one is thirteen and the other is eleven, you are not young anymore.

In a few years, we can talk about marriage. Dad will have to go back to the frontier. It’s not a good thing if there is no one to take charge of the family affairs.

"Dad, are you going to marry a new wife?" Ling Weiwei said, with fear flashing in his eyes.

Ling Mingyue was silent for a moment, then stood up and said, "Dad, if possible, can you make Aunt Wan your legal wife?

Although she is of humble status, she has taken care of us brothers and sisters wholeheartedly over the years. Even if she has no merits, she has worked hard.

My son believes that even if her status has changed, she will not be biased towards me, Weiwei, or Minghao."
