Chapter 3: Exile of the Whole Prefecture

"Mother!!"

The third sister-in-law was looking at Xiao Yunzhan in disbelief when she suddenly felt her arm become heavy. She turned around and saw Old Madam Xiao vomiting blood and fainting.

She anxiously supported Madam Xiao and was instantly at a loss.

Lu Guo hurried forward to help help Madam Xiao onto the bed.

The maids and servants in the mansion lost their backbone and immediately fell into chaos.

The second sister-in-law, who was always impetuous, became calm in an instant after seeing the masters of the Duke of Zhenguo's Mansion fall one by one.

She wiped her tears and stood up from the ground.

"Whatever you're yelling about, don't mess around, just do what you need to do."

The second sister-in-law had a cold face and glanced at the panicked crowd one by one.

"You two, lift the Duke of Zhenguo onto the bed. Be careful."

The second sister-in-law gave the order with a slightly choked voice.

Intimidated by the second sister-in-law, the servants, like headless flies, immediately shut their mouths.

The servants carefully carried Xiao Yunzhan onto the couch.

The third sister-in-law looked at the unconscious Madam Xiao on the bed, then turned her head to look at her fourth brother who was lying on the couch without a breath, and her tears fell like beads from a broken string.

"Quick, cut a piece for my fourth brother to hold on the mountain."

My sister-in-law came back panting, holding a ginseng as thick as a baby's arm.

The second sister-in-law quickly took the ginseng, took out the dagger she carried with her, cut off two pieces of ginseng, and stuffed them into the mouths of Old Madam Xiao and Xiao Yunzhan respectively.

"Reporting to Madam, someone threw a letter in from outside the courtyard wall."

Just as the sister-in-law breathed a sigh of relief, she saw the servant hurried in with a letter tied to a stone.

She frowned and quickly took the letter and opened it.

“How is it possible…”

After reading the contents of the letter, the sister-in-law was shocked and her face changed.

Her body went limp and she knocked over the vase next to her.

"Sister-in-law, what's in the letter? What happened?"

The second sister-in-law panicked and walked to the eldest sister-in-law, took the letter from her hand,

"Tomorrow morning, the entire Zhenguo Mansion will be exiled to Ningguta. My son, please make arrangements early!"

Looking at her father's handwriting on the letter, the second sister-in-law was dumbfounded.

"How is this possible? The Zhenguogong Mansion has been loyal for generations. Why were they exiled to Ningguta..."

When the third sister-in-law heard what the second sister-in-law said, her mind went blank.

She never thought that there would be a day when the Duke of Zhenguo's Mansion would be confiscated and exiled.

The eldest sister-in-law felt desolate. The last male member of the Xiao family was gone, but the emperor still refused to let go of the Duke of Zhenguo's Mansion.

Tyrant ruler!

"I~"

Old Madam Xiao, with a slice of ginger in her mouth, woke up slowly.

When I opened my eyes, I saw my three daughters-in-law hugging each other and crying.

After some inquiries, Old Madam Xiao forced herself to sit up, turned her head to look at her youngest son on the couch, and her eyes instantly became red.

"Things have come to this point. There is no turning back. Let's all make preparations early."

Old Madam Xiao took a few deep breaths, suppressed her anger, clenched her fists, and walked to Xiao Yunzhan with the support of her two daughters-in-law.

She tried to feel Xiao Yunzhan's breath with her trembling hands, unwilling to give up.

There was no breath at all, and Madam Xiao's eyes dimmed a little in an instant, and her hope was gone.

"Before he's exiled, take care of Yun Zhan's funeral."

"Even if a man of the Xiao family dies, he must die with dignity."

Madam Xiao slowed down, took a deep breath, and continued,

"Mrs. Wan, go and take care of it quickly."

"Okay, daughter-in-law will go right away."

The sister-in-law looked at Xiao Yunzhan deeply, biting her lips until they turned purple, and tried hard not to cry out.

The moment she turned her head, tears instantly rolled down her eyes.

In less than a cup of tea, everyone in the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion changed into mourning clothes.

At midnight, the lights in the Duke of Zhenguo's Mansion were on, and the house was hung with mourning banners, a scene of pure white.

The servants looked solemn, with red eyes as they were busy.

Old Madam Xiao tried hard to hold back her tears, her lips trembling slightly, and she used her trembling hands to comb Xiao Yunzhan's hair gently.

Originally, it should have been his children and grandchildren who cleansed Xiao Yunzhan's face, but Xiao Yunzhan had not married or had children, so it was up to her, as his mother, to send him on his final journey.

Come clean and leave clean.

The second sister-in-law took out new shoes and socks for Xiao Yunzhan to change into with tears in her eyes.

The third sister-in-law wrung out the towel and gently wiped Xiao Yunzhan's bloody hands.

"Mother, please ask the housekeeper to help change my fourth brother's clothes."

The eldest sister-in-law was dressed in mourning, holding clean clothes in her hands, and walked in with the old housekeeper behind her.

Old Madam Xiao paused slightly, pursed her lips, and continued to comb Xiao Yunzhan's hair carefully.

After a long time, Old Madam Xiao combed Xiao Yunzhan's hair and stood up with Cuiguo's support.

She looked at Xiao Yunzhan's scarred back with a look of heartache, and her heart ached.

"No."

"Put Yun Zhan on the coffin and carry him out of the house. I want everyone in the capital to know why the last son of the Xiao family died."

Madam Xiao's breath was short, her chest was heaving up and down, tears burst out instantly, and her voice was choked with sobs.

"A man of the Xiao family cannot die in vain."

She wanted to let everyone in the world know how the tyrant Emperor Wu of Liang abandoned the donkey after it had served its purpose.

If the Heavenly Family is unkind, don't blame them for being unjust.

The eldest sister-in-law was slightly startled, and instantly understood what Mrs. Xiao meant. She nodded heavily.

"Mother is right. I'll arrange it right away."

Soon, the shiny coffin board was carried into the room, and the servants gently moved Xiao Yunzhan onto the coffin board and carried him to the mourning hall.

"Mother, what happened in the mansion?"

Xiao Lingyan pulled the sleepy Xiao Linghui and stopped Yao Wenhong with a puzzled look on her face.
