Chapter 10: Dividing Food

When the ox cart arrived at the door of his house, Lu Feng asked the driver to move all the food off the cart, then paid him the fare and sent him away.

"Dad, the price of grain has doubled compared to a while ago. It's now ten cents per pound. I sold the wild boar for ten taels of silver, which just bought a thousand pounds of grain. It's all coarse grain, though. I'll ask my great-grandfather to come over later and give some to each family."

Lu Mingyuan nodded. "Okay, you're grown up now. You can make your own decisions. We're all from the same clan, so this is the way it should be."

Yunniang didn't say anything. She watched her husband and son discussing something. She felt very satisfied. Her son had been missing for more than ten years, and this was the happiest time of her life in those ten years.

As the father and son were talking, the second son Lu Ziyan and the third son Lu Zimo came back.

Lu Feng saw them coming back and said, "You guys are back just in time. Someone go to Great Grandpa's house and ask him to come over. Tell him that my father wants to discuss something with him and asks him to come over."

Upon hearing this, Lu Ziyan turned around and ran, "I'll go call Grandpa over."

When the words fell, the figure had already disappeared.

As soon as Lu Feng sat down, he saw his younger sister Lu Zixuan slowly walking towards him with a bowl in her hand.

"Brother, have some tea. You must be thirsty."

Lu Feng hurriedly took it.

"Thank you, little sister. You are so sensible."

Lu Zixuan's face turned red when her elder brother praised her, and she lowered her head in embarrassment.

In fact, Lu Feng discovered that his brothers and sisters were all good-looking. His youngest sister was very beautiful. However, their life was hard and they did not have enough nutrition. Their face was sallow and their hair was dry and sparse.

It can be said that the whole family is malnourished, but there is nothing we can do about it, as every family is like this now.

Lu Mingyuan asked about Lu Feng's horse again, "Brother Feng, what's wrong with your horse?"

Lu Feng certainly couldn't tell the truth, so he just said.

"Dad, this horse was given to me by my adoptive father when I was in Yongzhou Prefecture. This time, I rode it back from Yongzhou Prefecture to look for my relatives. A few days ago, I went into the mountains to hunt, so I left it at a friend's house. I went there today and brought it back."

As he was speaking, great-grandfather Lu Lanchen followed Lu Ziyan in.

"Mingyuan, I heard that Brother Feng brought back a cart of food. What are you guys going to do with it?"

Lu Lanchen entered the yard, took a look at the grain piled up in the yard and the tall horse beside it, and then asked.

Lu Mingyuan injured his leg, so he didn't get up and said directly.

"Uncle knows. Yesterday, my fourth brother and I encountered a wild boar in the mountains. I was injured. Feng Ge'er happened to rescue us, and Feng Ge'er killed the wild boar. Today, this kid sold the wild boar for ten or so taels of silver. He bought a thousand kilograms of coarse grain and said he would bring it back to the tribe. You can give each family a share. At least it can sustain us for a while, right?"

Lu Lanchen was also very surprised when he heard Lu Mingyuan say this. He didn't expect that the eldest son of Mingyuan's family was so good. He gave such a big gift to the clan as soon as he came back. Then he sighed.

"Mingyuan, thank you both. To be honest, some of our tribesmen ran out of food yesterday, and I was worried about whether we would have to flee the famine soon."

When Lu Feng heard his great-grandfather say he wanted to escape famine, he said.

"Grandpa, we have to flee the famine, so we have to prepare now. Forget about anything else, we have to prepare food for the journey. I found out in town today that coarse grains are already ten cents a pound. Who knows what they will be like in the future? Also, we have to go check out the area around Woniu Mountain and bring back anything edible. Only when we are well prepared can we reach the south safely."

After hearing what Lu Feng said, Lu Lanchen nodded in agreement.

"Brother Feng is right. We should take away whatever food we can. Otherwise, if we don't have food on the road, it will be fatal."

After Lu Lanchen made his decision, he didn't delay any longer.

"I will send someone to notify the tribesmen to come and share the food. I would like to thank you two on behalf of the tribesmen."

After saying this, he bowed, which startled Lu Feng and his son. You know, Lu Lanchen is Lu Mingyuan's uncle? He is an elder.

"Uncle, look at what you've done. Isn't this shortening my nephew's lifespan?"

Lu Lanchen shook his head and said, "Mingyuan! You are wrong. Seniority doesn't matter. This is a life-saving favor!"

Lu Mingyuan looked at Lu Lanchen helplessly and said, "Okay, uncle, please don't do this again in the future. Your nephew can't bear it!"

Lu Feng said from the side, "Grandpa, Dad, let's quickly divide the food. We are all family, so we don't need to worry about these things, right?"

Lu Lanchen nodded and walked out of the door and said to the group of boys looking at Dama at the door.

"Go home and ask your elders to come here. I have something to say. Tell them to hurry up."

Although the group of children were young, they understood some of what Lu Mingyuan and Lu Lanchen had just said. When they heard that they were going to distribute food, they immediately ran home quickly.

In less than half an hour, all the Lu family members arrived.

Lu Lanchen stood at the door of Lu Mingyuan's house, looked at the noisy crowd below, and raised his hand, and the scene suddenly became quiet.

"Everyone, listen to me. The eldest son of the Mingyuan family came back yesterday. Everyone knows about it. He killed a wild boar yesterday and took it to town to sell it today. He bought a thousand kilograms of grain and said he would share it with us. I just counted and there are twenty-three households in our Lujia Village. Each family can share forty-three kilograms of grain. You must remember that this is a gift from the eldest son of the Mingyuan family. You must remember to be grateful and know who is kind to you. If anyone does something ungrateful, I will be the first to not forgive him and will even expel him from the family."

"Uncle, look at what you said. Are we that kind of people? If anyone dares to say something they shouldn't say or do something they shouldn't do, I, Lu Minghang, will be the first to deal with him. These days, who has money and food doesn't hide it for themselves. Now that my nephew is willing to give us so much food, it means he cares about his family and regards us as his relatives. Otherwise, who would care about your life or death?"

"That's right, Brother Feng is truly kind and righteous. This is also a blessing for our Lu family. If anyone dares to do anything to let down the Lu family and Brother Feng, I will be the first one to not forgive him."

The person who was speaking was the fourth uncle who came back from the mountain with Lu Mingyuan yesterday, that is, Lu Mingqian from the second grandfather's family.

Seeing that the Lu family had expressed their stance, Lu Lanchen looked at several families with other surnames.

The Qu family, the Huang family, and the Feng family, you are all relatives of our Lu family, so naturally you have a share of this food, but you also heard what I said just now, so you should also express your opinion!

The three families quickly expressed that they remembered Feng Ge'er's kindness, which made Lu Lanchen satisfied.

Then they started to distribute the food. After half an hour of hard work, all the food piled up in the yard was distributed.
