Chapter 6 I won’t scold you for now

"Yuan'er, go away! Mother has told you so many times to stay away from your grandma and don't upset her."

Juanhua quickly put down the basin and walked into the shack with the child in her arms.

Wang Yi looked at the pair of eyes that had grown bigger due to hunger, and felt mixed emotions in his heart.

Countless images of her previous life expressing disgust and disdain for Li Yuan suddenly flooded her memory.

Because Wang was fertile, the wicked Old Li always obeyed and doted on her.

In order to support his wife and children, he got up early and went to bed late, and his body was exhausted. In fact, he was ill from overwork and his health was no longer good.

Later, the seventh son, Li Qubing, was born. In order to save more things for Qubing, Old Li went up the mountain to hunt, but was eventually found dead on the mountain.

Wang Yi's good life came to an abrupt end. Originally, her eldest daughter treated her very well. The family would not only maintain the food rations but also give her an extra portion. But after she had a grandson, her extra rations were given to her eldest daughter-in-law who was pregnant. After she gave birth, she encountered famine and her extra rations were naturally gone.

She transferred her resentment to her grandson. Not only did she not take care of this little one, she also thought he was a nuisance.

This transfer of anger and resentment caused the eldest daughter-in-law, Wang Juanhua, to suffer a lot.

Giving birth to the first of three generations in the family should have been a happy thing, but the old woman's resentful attitude became a heavy stone weighing on Wang Juanhua's heart, causing her to be depressed all day long.

Especially when Yuan'er came to her grandmother, she became even more frightened, fearing that the old woman would do something to Yuan'er again.

Wang Yi sighed. These things have to be done slowly. She wants to gain more filial piety points here. It is important for a family to be harmonious and prosperous.

So she quickly called for a halt: "Put Yuan'er down, I'll watch for a while. Bring him a bowl of meat, I'll watch him eat."

Wang Juanhua was stunned. What she thought about was not that the old lady’s attitude had improved, but - how come the old lady is now using her grandson as a shield to get food?

"I, I'll go right away. Yuan'er, go play with grandma for a while."

Wang Juanhua put the child down and looked back every few steps, fearing that her mother-in-law would take the child away. There was suspicion in her eyes and her heart was as complicated as eight-treasure porridge.

But it’s dark now, and it shouldn’t be easy for my mother-in-law to find a buyer. My family members are still nearby, so there shouldn’t be any problem, right?

She opened the lid of the pot and scooped out a few small pieces of rabbit meat and half a bowl of soup. She first gave them to Wang Yi to take a look at the child, then hurriedly turned around to find Li Shenggen.

After hearing what Wang Juanhua said, Li Shenggen walked over here without caring about anything else. When they came back, they saw Wang Yi scooping up the meat with a spoon, blowing it cool, and handing it to Yuan'er's mouth with a smile on his face.

The little guy was very greedy when he saw the meat. He stuffed it into his mouth even though it was hot. Wang Yi fed him mouthful by mouthful for fear of burning him.

What a loving scene.

This scene by the fire made Li Shenggen and Wang Juanhua's eyes sore and they were both very surprised.

Li Shenggen whispered, "Mom has never done this before."

"Dad, do you think Mom has gotten better?" No one cared about this more than Wang Juanhua. She couldn't believe it and was eager to find recognition from her husband.

"Who knows. But don't let your guard down. I hope Mom has really gotten better." Li Shenggen thought about the rice and flour he bought in the evening, and a warm feeling surged in his heart.

She was willing to take out the copper coins she had hidden for so long, so she must have gotten better, right?

In fact, no one expects his mother to get better more than he does.

Ever since Dad passed away, Mom has become more and more unreasonable. He is really tired of supporting this family. If Mom could just be more sensible and not make trouble, that would be the greatest help to him.

"Filial piety +2."

Wang Yi was stunned. It was obvious that Wang Yuan in front of him did not have such a thing as filial piety. He was still too young and ignorant.

Then, it must be someone else.

When she turned around, she saw the eldest brother and his wife looking around outside the firelight. When they saw her looking at them, they hurriedly turned around and left.

What an awkward couple. It’s just feeding a baby, no big deal.

Wang Yuan laughed and pointed at the rabbit meat with his dry finger: "Grandma, I want more!"

"Eat, eat, eat! All for you!"

Although Wang Yi was hungry, she had eaten everything in the modern world, so she wasn't greedy. Her filial piety value now accumulated to 22 points, so it was no problem to exchange it for a few taels of silver. She didn't want to compete with them for these few life-saving grains.

One rabbit is still too few.

It's time for dinner. The aroma fills the shacks and the whole family gathers together.

Wang Yuan had fallen asleep after eating. His seven sons and four daughters-in-law were all holding their bowls. In front of them was a big pot of boiling soup with a large plate of soup noodles on top.

Wang Juanhua used the only spoon in the house to scoop a large bowl of soup noodles for each person, and then scooped a spoonful of rabbit meat soup with oil floating on it, and each person got a mouthful or two of meat.

Wang Yi held the bowl, her eyes a little sore. In her bowl, besides the soup noodles, there was also a whole rabbit leg.

No one has any opinion about such injustice and no one is surprised by it.

Hunger made them dizzy and their heads pounded. The soup noodles they were given in their bowls tempted their appetites, and they all gulped them down. No one paid any attention to Wang Yi as he turned and hid with the bowl in hand.

The black noodles were rough and prickly, but the true desire surging from her body made her eat them sweetly.

She only took one bite of the chicken leg. Because the rabbit meat had not been de-smelled, it tasted completely different from the boiled rabbit she loved. Even though she was hungry, it was a little difficult to swallow.

She didn't move. After everyone returned to their own nests, she came to Wang Juanhua who was cleaning up the mess.

"This is for you, Shenggen's family."

Wang Juanhua glanced at the bowl handed to her by Wang Yi, thinking it was a dirty bowl that needed to be washed, but she saw a rabbit leg with only one bite taken of it lying at the bottom of the bowl.

"mother?"

"Hmph. I'm not that hungry. I have no appetite. You still have one in your stomach, so just throw it away if you think my saliva is spitting."
