After buying two gifts, Ye Yun also specially bought a can of tea.
"Your dad must like drinking tea!" Ye Yun asked.
"Yeah, a cheap bag is fine, there's no need to buy an expensive one."
"No, that won't do. You haven't been home in a long time, you should at least buy something nice. By the way, does your mother have anything she likes?" Ye Yun asked.
"My mom... uh... could you buy a plate of eggs?"
"Eggs? Hmm...that makes sense."
In summary, these four gifts—yogurt, cookies, tea, and eggs—make for the best combination of gifts when visiting relatives.
Then, Ye Yun rode his motorcycle with Lin Shuyue to her parents' home.
The two villages are quite far apart; one is to the east of the town, and the other is to the south.
Upon arriving at Linjia Village, just as she reached the village entrance, she encountered an old man carrying a hoe, with whom she met Lin Shuyue.
"Oh, isn't this Shuyue? You've come back to your parents' home."
"Yes, Second Uncle."
It was past nine o'clock, and there were still quite a few people in the village. Ye Yun deliberately drove slowly along the way so that Lin Shuyue could greet him.
When they arrived at the Lin family's house, they found it to be quite old, comparable to Ye Yun's house before the renovation. No wonder they had to sell their daughter.
Lin Shuyue got out of the car, carrying eggs in her hand, went to the door, pushed it open, and walked inside.
Ye Yun followed closely behind Lin Shuyue, carrying gifts in his hands.
"Dad, Mom, I'm back," Lin Shuyue called out.
As soon as she finished speaking, an old woman came out of the kitchen, still wearing an apron, and was overjoyed to see Lin Shuyue.
"Shuyue, why are you back?"
"I just missed you, so I came back to see you." Lin Shuyue went up and handed the plate of eggs to the other person.
Lin's mother took the plate of eggs and called out to the inner room, "Honey, Shuyue is back, come out quickly."
Then an old man came out. People in the countryside tend to look older, especially those who do farm work or heavy labor.
"Shuyue is back. It's been almost half a year since you last came back. I thought you weren't planning on coming back," Lin's father said irritably.
"What are you saying! Shuyue has finally come back, don't gossip so much," Lin's mother said disapprovingly.
"Hmph, am I wrong?" Lin's father snorted, his gaze falling on Ye Yun, and asked in confusion, "Who is this kid? I've never seen him before?"
"This is Ye Yun, Ye Kang's younger brother. He was studying at a university away from home and just came back last month," Lin Shuyue introduced with considerable pride.
"Ye Kang's younger brother? Hmm, I remember now. Originally, they were going to marry you off to this guy, but he didn't come back, so they married you off to Ye Kang instead," Lin's father said, suddenly realizing.
"Stop talking about it, that's something from ages ago," Lin Shuyue said awkwardly.
Ye Yun stepped forward, carrying two gifts, and greeted them, "Hello, Uncle, I am Ye Yun. This is my first time visiting your home, and I didn't bring anything expensive, just these two gifts."
"Oh dear, look at you, child. You're here all along, why bring gifts? These are such a waste of money." Lin's mother said, reaching out to take the gifts.
Then Ye Yun took out a can of tea from her pocket and handed it to Lin's father, saying, "Uncle, I heard from Sister Shuyue that you like to drink tea. This is the tea I bought for you."
Lin's father took the tea leaves, examined them, grinned, and said, "You're not bad, lad. You're smarter than that Ye Kang kid..."
As they were talking, Lin's mother slapped Lin's father, saying, "Can't you speak properly? If you can't speak properly, shut your mouth."
Lin's father looked embarrassed, and Lin's mother quickly changed the subject, pulling Ye Yun and saying, "Xiao Yun, come inside and talk."
"Okay, Auntie."
Ye Yun and Lin Shuyue went into the house together and sat on the old sofa in the living room. Then Lin's mother brought over a cup of hot tea and handed it to Ye Yun.
"Thank you, Auntie." Ye Yun accepted the cup with both hands.
"You're welcome, we're all family. By the way, have you had breakfast yet?"
"I've eaten. Ye Yun and I came over after having breakfast," Lin Shuyue said.
"Oh, that's fine then."
At this moment, Lin's father also came in, and the two of them sat down and chatted with Ye Yun.
"Ye Yun, have you finished university yet?" Lin's mother asked.
"Yes, I've already graduated."
"Did you find a job in the city?"
"No, I plan to stay and work while taking care of Sister Shuyue," Ye Yun said.
"Really? That's good. Ever since Ye Kang left, Shuyue has been all alone, and life hasn't been easy for her," Lin's mother sighed.
“What’s so good about it! Is it appropriate for a college graduate to stay in the village? Look at his skinny frame, he can’t even lift a brick. What kind of money can he earn in the village?” Lin’s father said with dissatisfaction.
"Dad, don't underestimate Ye Yun. Although he looks thin, he's all muscle and he's a formidable fighter," Lin Shuyue said anxiously in Ye Yun's defense.
"Fight? Hahaha... This pretty boy is going to fight? He'll probably get beaten up!" Lin's father laughed heartily.
"What are you laughing at? What's so funny? He's a college student, and you, an illiterate person, are laughing at him. What right do you have to do that?" Lin's mother scolded.
"Hmph, so what if I'm illiterate? The countryside doesn't need educated people; it needs illiterate people like me," Lin's father retorted defiantly.
"You old fool, I'm really fed up with you. Stop embarrassing yourself and shut your mouth!" Lin Ma pinched him and then looked at Ye Yun apologetically.
"Ye Yun, don't be angry. Your uncle is uneducated and doesn't think before he speaks."
"It's alright, I don't mind. Uncle was just joking with me!" Ye Yun said with a faint smile.
"Look at that kid, he's so well-rounded. And look at you, getting caught up in trivial matters. You're uncultured but proud of it. That's what people mean when they say the less culture you have, the more arrogant you become."
"Come on, it's just going to college, what's the use? The city needs educated people, but what do the countryside need? The countryside needs people who can endure hardship. Hey, tell me, have you found a job here yet? How much do you earn a month? Can you support you and my daughter?" Lin's father questioned.
Ye Yun smiled easily and said, "I haven't found any specific work yet."
"Look at him, he hasn't even found a job yet. He must be one of those overly ambitious, pretentious scholars the older generation talks about..."
"Shut up and let the child finish speaking," Lin's mother scolded, then smiled at Ye Yun and said, "You continue."
Ye Yun nodded and patiently said, "A new ecological breeding farm is going to be built in our village. It's my cousin Ye Sanqiang who's in charge of building the farm."
"A farm? How big is it? Is it about an acre?" Lin's father said nonchalantly, picking up his water glass and taking a sip.
"It's alright, it only occupies about 100 acres," Ye Yunyun said casually.
Upon hearing this, Lin's father almost vomited up the water he was drinking.
