After leaving the village chief's house, Ye Yun went to Gou Sheng's house. He had reminded the guy a few days ago not to wander off, but when he got home, Gou Sheng was still nowhere to be found.
Following the creature's usual elusive ways, Ye Yun finally found it by the river outside the village, where it was catching crayfish in the river with a flashlight.
"Gou Sheng!" Ye Yun shouted, startling Gou Sheng so much that he dropped the lobster in his hand into the water.
Looking up, Gou Sheng saw Ye Yun walking over and waved, "Brother Yun, I'm here!"
"What are you doing here in the middle of the night instead of going home?"
"Catching lobsters."
"Catching lobsters? There are still lobsters at this hour?" Ye Yun walked over and stood on the shore.
Gou Sheng carried the bucket ashore from the river and handed it to Ye Yun, saying, "Look, I caught so many!"
Ye Yun was immediately surprised when he saw that there was half a bucket of lobsters, and he estimated that there were forty or fifty of them.
"Arrest so many!"
"Hehe, pretty impressive, right!" Gou Sheng said smugly.
"Wow, you're really bored, catching lobsters here. Do you know I've been looking for you all over the village?" Ye Yun raised his hand and slapped him on the head.
"Ah, Brother Yun, you called me? Is something wrong?" Gou Sheng asked curiously.
"We've got a job, want to do it?"
"Work? How much money? I want to do it. I'll definitely do it if there's money." Gou Sheng's eyes lit up, and he nodded quickly.
"The village is preparing to harvest corn, and in order to get the orchard ready as soon as possible, I discussed it with the village chief and the others, and we decided to hire a group of people to harvest it this year. As for the money... it depends on how fast you can go. Anyway, it's fifty yuan per mu, and I won't hold back. I'll just give you forty. There are 100 mu in total, so that's 4,000 yuan. You guys can split it among yourselves."
"Wow, this is a huge job! Brother Yun, you really want us to do it?" Gou Sheng was extremely excited.
"Nonsense, otherwise why would I come to you? But I have to make this clear beforehand: if anyone steals or doesn't work, I won't pay them, and I'll break their leg. Go tell those guys about this, and we'll meet at the village entrance at 7:30 tomorrow morning."
"Okay, I'm going right now." With that, Gousheng picked up the bucket and was about to run off.
"Wait, do you still want these lobsters? I don't think you know how to cook them, so just sell them to me!" Ye Yun said, looking at the lobsters in the other person's bucket.
"Ah, Brother Yun, you want it? Then I'll take it as a gift." Gou Sheng grinned and placed the bucket next to Ye Yun.
"What filial piety? What are you talking about? Why would I want to take advantage of you like that?" Ye Yun said, taking out ten yuan from his pocket and handing it to the other person.
"Oh, no need, it's just a few broken lobsters."
"Here you go, your brother doesn't like to take advantage of others."
"Hehe, then I won't be polite." Gou Sheng rubbed his hands together and accepted the ten yuan.
Ye Yun, carrying the bucket, said to him, "I'll take this bucket back first and return it to you tomorrow morning. Remember, be on time every morning. If anyone is late, I'll slap them across the face. I've reminded everyone."
"Absolutely."
After Gou Sheng left, Ye Yun also carried the bucket home.
When they got home, Ye Yun poured the lobsters into a large iron basin. It didn't look like much in the bucket, but once spread out, it was a lot, filling a whole basin.
Lin Shuyue came out of the kitchen and looked at the huge basin of lobsters in surprise. "How come there are so many lobsters? Didn't you go to the village chief's house? Why did you go catching lobsters?"
"I didn't catch them. I don't have the time for that. Gou Sheng caught them. When I went to find him, the kid was catching crayfish on the other side of the river, so I bought them for ten yuan," Ye Yun explained.
"No wonder, but how do you cook lobster? I've never eaten lobster before, let alone know how to cook it," Lin Shuyue said, her head aching.
Ye Yun smiled easily, "It's okay, I can make it. It's very easy to cook, just like chicken, braised, deep-fried, stir-fried, etc. The main problem is that it's a bit troublesome to prepare. Sister Shuyue, go get some water and rinse the lobster."
"oh!"
After Lin Shuyue rinsed the lobster twice and filled the water, Ye Yun added salt and vinegar to the water.
"That's enough."
"That's it?"
"This is to let them purge their filth. Leave it overnight, and we can cook it and eat it tomorrow," Ye Yun said.
Lin Shuyue nodded in realization, "I understand. You should wash your hands and get ready to eat; the food's almost cold."
"OK."
Dinner was simple: rice porridge, steamed buns, and pickled vegetables.
For some reason, even though she was at home, Lin Shuyue was still dressed like she was at noon. Her shapely legs in stockings were so tempting that Ye Yun couldn't help but want to take a second look.
"Xiaoyun".
"Ah!" Ye Yun quickly looked away and turned to Lin Shuyue.
Lin Shuyue lowered her head and said softly, "Do you remember what I said at noon?"
"At noon? Yes..." Ye Yun was pondering when he suddenly understood and looked at Lin Shuyue in disbelief.
"Sister Shuyue, are you serious..."
"I'm done eating." Before Ye Yun could ask, Lin Shuyue put down her chopsticks, got up, and went back to the inner room.
Ye Yun sat there dumbfounded, unable to believe her ears, unsure whether it was a joke or something serious.
After finishing his meal, he washed the dishes, then went to the bathroom to wash his face.
After locking the front door, Ye Yun went to his room. Just as he was about to open it, he remembered Lin Shuyue's words.
After hesitating for a moment, Ye Yun let go of the doorknob and went to the door of the inner room to knock.
"Sister Shuyue, may I come in?"
"Come in, the door's unlocked."
Ye Yun turned the doorknob and pushed the door open. He saw Lin Shuyue sitting on the kang (a heated brick bed) with her legs stretched out, which made Ye Yun's heart race.
"Is something the matter?" Lin Shuyue asked.
Ye Yun gently closed the door, sat down on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), stared intently at the alluring sight, and said, "I was thinking about what Sister Shuyue said at noon. I wonder... if she was serious."
Lin Shuyue's heart was also racing, but she kept her eyes fixed on Ye Yun and said, "Of course it's true, it just depends on whether you want to or not."
"Yes," Ye Yun said, raising his head without hesitation.
Lin Shuyue blushed and turned her head to look out the window. "Then... then it's fine!"
Okay! What does that mean? Does it mean you're allowed to?
Seeing that Lin Shuyue was unwilling to look directly at him, Ye Yun tentatively placed his hand on her calf.
Lin Shuyue's body was tense, which Ye Yun could sense; she was very nervous.
Even so, Lin Shuyue still didn't stop, which emboldened Ye Yun.
"Um... could you turn off the lights?" Lin Shuyue suddenly asked.
"Turn off the lights?"
"Um."
Ye Yun turned off the lights, and the room became pitch black, but some visibility was still possible with the help of the moonlight.
Ye Yun placed his hand on it again. Because of the darkness and Ye Yun's gentleness, Lin Shuyue gradually relaxed and stopped being tense.
