Chapter 72 Dividing the Pig for Food

Liu Nian breathed a sigh of relief as he finally made it back to Wushuang City before nightfall; the darkness of the wilderness was no joke.

Ignoring the stares of others, Liu Nian set up her tent on the vacant land in the public area and got to work.

Wu Qiong and her husband were chatting with people by the fire not far away when they saw Liu Nian busy and quickly came over to greet him: "Boss, do you need any help?"

Upon hearing the voice, Liu Nian turned his head and saw Wu Qiong and a woman of similar age, guessing that she must be his wife.

"Where is your daughter?" Liu Nian asked, not having seen his daughter, before the conversation had even started.

"She's asleep," Wu Qiong said, a happy smile spreading across his face.

Seeing that Liu Nian didn't offer to help, he and his wife spontaneously started helping out.

Seeing this, the people around the campfire came over to greet them and offer their help, creating a lively scene.

They had all witnessed Liu Nian teach Li Qiang a lesson in the tent. It wouldn't hurt to build a relationship with someone even Li Gang respected.

With many hands making light work, the tent was set up in no time.

After everyone helped move bedding and other personal items from the motorcycle into the tent, they chatted for a while and then turned to leave.

Looking at the kind-hearted people, Liu Nian felt a warm current flow through her heart.

It doesn't matter what their motives are; living in the moment is enough.

With this kindness in mind, Liu Nian couldn't sleep!

Those who can fall asleep quickly in unfamiliar surroundings are true warriors. Amidst the sounds of movement and snoring, Liu Nian, wrapped in a blanket, seemed lost in thought.

Early the next morning, Liu Nian beckoned Wu Qiong and his wife over and explained his idea.

"Are you sure?" Wu Qiong asked with a look of surprise.

"Yes, can you manage?" Liu Nian wasn't concerned about the supplies, but rather about Wu Qiong's condition.

"It's alright. I've handled large banquets before, starting with a hundred or so tables. This is nothing." Wu Qiong said proudly when talking about her job.

"Won't this interfere with your mercenary missions?"

"You've posted more rewards than the ones offered for hiring someone." Then why bother with hiring tasks?

"Then I'll leave this matter to you." Seeing this, Liu Nian said no more.

"no problem."

People in the surrounding tents gradually got up, and as soon as they stepped outside, they were attracted by the tempting aroma. They all came out and saw Wu Qiong roasting a wild boar.

"Where did you come from? I didn't see you yesterday." A familiar face came over and asked.

"Look," Wu Qiong said, her feet barely touching the ground, gesturing with her eyes in Liu Nian's direction.

"Oh, I understand." The acquaintance expressed his understanding and envied Wu Qiong for finding such a good part-time job.

Why did I never think of becoming a chef before?

Seeing that his acquaintance was about to leave, Wu Qiong called out to him.

"Come and lend a hand." Wu Qiong remembered how much he had taken care of her and wanted to help him.

"Are you sure?" the acquaintance asked uncertainly.

"He said he could help me find someone to assist me." Wu Qiong spoke confidently, but she was unsure in her heart.

If all else fails, I can just give up this salary. That should be fine, right?

After working hard for most of the day, the roast pig was now crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, its golden-brown exterior making it look incredibly appetizing.

Although he didn't get to say anything to the people who came to help, Liu Nian kept their kindness in his heart.

Liu Nian divided the roasted pig into about ten portions and knocked on the surrounding tents one by one.

"Thanks"

Thank you so much!

You're such a kind person.

Ignoring Wu Qiong's scratching head and explanations, Liu Nian divided two large bowls of pork between Wu Qiong and the other person who had helped out that day.

After smilingly seeing off the two who were extremely grateful, Liu Nian began to enjoy her meal.

I don't understand why they said thank you. Isn't it only right to pay them after completing the task?

As for such trivial matters as hiring people without permission, Liu Nian didn't care at all. The important thing was whether or not the task was completed successfully.

Give kindness, receive kindness in return.

I will not attack unless attacked!

This is Liu Nian's principle in life.

Outside the tent, the neighbors who had received their share of pork gathered around the campfire to eat and chat.

"Did you know? Recently, many people have gone missing in the city, all at night," Jia said mysteriously.

"At night? We were attacked on our way back from several nights of mercenary missions that day." Yi seemed to remember something and spoke while eating.

“It’s hard to see clearly at night. That guy had gray fur all over his body. I slashed at it once, but it didn’t break through his defenses, but a tuft of fur was left on my knife.” After hearing what B said, C casually chimed in, saying that the two of them were in cahoots.

"It's not outside the city, it's inside the city." Seeing that the topic had gone astray, A continued to speak.

"In the city?" Everyone looked surprised and perked up, crowding closer to Jia.

Seeing the expressions on everyone's faces, A's desire to share was satisfied, and he stopped being mysterious and said, "Yes, many people have disappeared from their homes for no reason."

“A relative of mine works under a sheriff, and he revealed this information.”

Has the murderer been caught?

"No, I heard the scene was very clean, with no signs of a struggle," A replied, shaking his head.

"You guys be careful tonight, don't sleep too soundly!"

"Is there anything unclean about it?" Someone asked.

The atmosphere instantly became awkward, and for a moment everyone looked at each other.

No one felt like continuing the conversation, and after finishing their meal, they all went home to prepare for their new adventure.

Liu Nian was lying on the bed, playing with the purple crystal in her hand.

Hearing their version of events is like hearing a fascinating story.

I have no intention of going out to do any mercenary tasks today. The weather is clear and sunny, with a gentle breeze, perfect for just lazing around.

Liu Nian idly activated his skill to gather information from the purple crystal.

Purple Crystal: A stone containing mysterious power.

Finding no useful information, Liu Nian stared at the stone in his hand, lost in thought.

At the same time, a series of disappearances left Li Gang extremely stressed.

His office was piled high with materials, and looking at his messy desk, who knows how long he'd been there?

The whole family mysteriously disappeared at night, leaving no trace of their lives or bodies.

It wouldn't normally be a big deal; people disappearing in public areas is just that—they're mostly adventurers with no connections. But one family is related to the lord of the administrative region, and that's when things get serious.

The sheriff had given a strict order to solve the case within a limited time.

Completely clueless, the four families have completely different family backgrounds and no overlap in their lives.

Could it be that something was missed and not found? A thought flashed through Li Gang's mind.

He got up and hurriedly rushed to the nearest crime scene.

"Boss, good morning!" His men greeted him as he came out.

Ignoring his subordinates' words, Li Gang strode out of the police station.

A thoughtful look flashed across his subordinate's eyes before he turned and ran into the restroom.

"Phew, found it." Li Gang pulled a portrait out of a cabinet.

The only thing they had in common was that a portrait with an eye was found in their homes.

If Liu Nian were here, he would have noticed that the pattern Li Gang was holding was exactly the same as the one he found when he entered the instance.

"Looks like you've found out." A sinister voice suddenly sounded from behind.
