Chapter 75 The Disappearance of Li Gang

"This is not a place for you," the security guard said patiently.

They come every few minutes, and I've reported it several times already. When will you stop? Even if you're Li Gang's brother, it doesn't matter. I'm not putting up with this anymore.

"Just one more look, please," Li Qiang pleaded with the gatekeeper across the street, his former arrogance completely gone.

The doorman was thoroughly annoyed, but he still grumbled as he entered: "This is the last time!"

"What a hassle!"

"Thank you, thank you." Li Qiang nodded hurriedly, looking somewhat comical.

Li Gang did not go home for lunch. Although he is often too busy to eat, he always asks someone to let him know.

This time, his brother left nothing behind, and Li Qiang was worried, so he went to this place several times but was stopped each time.

During this time, he met Li Qiang with his brother's men and told them that his brother had gone to handle a case and had not returned, but six hours had passed and there was still no news of Li Gang.

With the sun about to set, Li Qiang was extremely anxious.

"Captain Li isn't here. Go home and wait a bit. Everyone's working hard on the case." The gatekeeper used the same excuse to brush him off.

Looking at the gatekeeper who used to fawn over him, now looking at him with disdain, Li Qiang felt resentful but helpless and could only turn and leave.

"A pathetic wretch who only knows how to wag his tail and beg for mercy behind the captain, ptooey, what a piece of trash!" The gatekeeper spat disdainfully as Li Qiang left.

Something must have happened to my brother. I need to calm down and think about what to do.

"Don't ask, this is a secret." A thought flashed through Li Qiang's mind, remembering what Li Gang had said to him the day before yesterday.

There should be some clues left at home; go back and look for them yourself.

The administrative district is a place designated for the residence of those who serve the city lord.

There were also many wandering knights who were favored by the city lord and recruited.

Li Gang once said that with Liu Nian's strength, he would definitely be favored by the city lord.

Their home was far from the city lord's, on the edge of the administrative district. There were only two brothers in the family, neither of whom were married.

Most cases don't require documents, and cases that do require documents aren't kept at home, let alone cases that need to be kept confidential.

So even though Li Qiang turned the whole house upside down, he found nothing.

Sitting dejectedly in the chair in front of his desk, Li Qiang sighed in despair.

"Damn it, if only you cared about your brother more on ordinary days."

Looking at the notebook that Li Gang had placed on the table in front of him, Li Qiang had a flash of inspiration.

Given Li Gang's cautious nature, although the notebook might record some useful information, he would always burn it after recording it.

Li Qiang unfolded his tattered notebook and took a pencil from the pen holder to start scribbling.

Soon, some casually jotted notes surfaced on the clean page.

"The whole family disappeared? Common points? Portrait? Cult? Sacrifice?" A series of inexplicable words were followed by a question mark.

Sacrifice? Li Qiang had heard from the black-shirted henchman that some people would mysteriously disappear at night near his residence.

He lives in the public area; go ask him now, something big must have happened in the city.

Brother, please don't let anything go wrong! Seeing that it was getting late, Li Gang thought to himself, tidied up, and ran towards the public area.

Shortly after he left, a figure emerged from the corner wall of his residence.

"Li Gang's younger brother came out of his residence. He just went to the police station. It looks like he's heading towards the public area now. Should we keep an eye on him?" a plain-looking man said, holding a walkie-talkie.

"Go ahead, I'll have others keep an eye on this room. Kill him if necessary, and remember to do it cleanly!" After a few moments of silence, an order came through the crackling walkie-talkie.

"Yes," the man said, then turned off the walkie-talkie.

He seemed to have a henchman in that area. Thinking of this, the man turned on his walkie-talkie and switched to another channel.

As he raised his hand, the wind lifted a corner of his sleeve, revealing a tattoo of a mysterious eye.

When Liu Nian returned, it was already past four in the afternoon.

Although it was a bit much to leave the employer there and go home, they did say that the contract was complete.

I should just stop thinking about it; anyway, I'll never have any contact with them again.

Looking at the still early sky, and unwilling to lie dead on the bed right now, he decided to go and see what tasks were left in the hall.

The Adventure Hall was still packed with people. Looking at the screen, Liu Nian searched around but couldn't find any suitable tasks. However, he saw a task that seemed to be one they had accepted.

[Mission: Slay the Berserker Bear] (Elite Mission) (Team Mission)

Rewards: 300 experience points, 2 item cards, and 250 crowns.

Judging from the "claimed" status displayed on the screen, it should be pretty much confirmed.

No wonder they needed to find outside help; that bear doesn't look like someone to mess with.

"Sigh, if I had a skill tree, I would definitely be good at talking." Liu Nian thought helplessly. He went to do the quest without asking any questions. Fortunately, the monsters were not too strong this time, otherwise he might have been killed.

Thinking of eloquence, Liu Nian immediately thought of Li Sha, hoping she was well.

But it doesn't seem like a complete loss, since I at least got a skill, and the rarity of skills is obvious to all.

"I heard that many people have disappeared from the city for no apparent reason." As Liu Nian was about to leave, he heard an adventurer say this as he passed by.

“Your information is too outdated. Specifically, it involves four families, twelve people, including one household that is related to the city lord,” another person said, seemingly to show off their intelligence capabilities.

"Tell me, tell me," the other three members of the five-person team urged, their gossip-loving spirits stirring within them.

"Really?" The man, unwilling to be ignored, especially in front of a beautiful woman, spoke first and questioned.

"Tch, of course it's true. I have a friend at the police station." The man who spoke last was wearing an elegant coat and glared disdainfully at the man in front of him.

Liu Nian did not hear what was said after that.

It has nothing to do with him, so what's the point of listening to it?

He never dreamed that he was truly involved. All this trouble stemmed from him taking the sacred object.

After leaving the hall, it was already night.

"So much time has passed without me realizing it," Liu Nian muttered to herself as she glanced at her watch.

"Hey sir, come have some fun!" As dusk fell, the streetwalkers, dressed in their finest attire, called out to the adventurers on the road.

After shaking her head and declining their enthusiastic invitations, Liu Nian left the bustling market area.

To get back to the public area where you set up your tent, you have to pass through what is known as a high-density area for missing persons.

Liu Nian felt a little nervous; the most terrifying enemy is the one you can't see.

Liu Nian, who was about to leave quickly, breathed a sigh of relief as she looked at the corner that was just around the corner. Just one more step, and this street would be no longer related to her.

"Bang!"

A person rushed out from the opposite side and collided with him.

"Little mouse, caught you!" A mocking voice rang out from behind the newcomer.
