Chapter 6 Rules

"Wait, it seems like I summoned this skeleton?" Liu Nian suddenly remembered when he came to his senses.

Look at this blunder, I'm so embarrassed! Liu Nian blushed.

Looking at the skeleton warrior standing frozen in front of him, Liu Nian pointed at the wooden door in front of him: "Attack."

However, thirty seconds passed, and the skeleton remained standing motionless in front of the door, completely unmoved.

"Not accepting commands? Or not attacking inanimate objects?" A big question mark popped into Liu Nian's mind.

Undeterred, Liu Nian issued a series of commands, including defend, stay put, and attack. However, the skeleton did not cooperate and continued to stare blankly at Liu Nian, its empty eye sockets looking as if it were looking at a fool.

But don't think Liu Nian is a fool; he's figuring out the rules.

Liu Nian's only way to survive now is with the skeleton warrior in front of him. Only by understanding its attack mechanism can he better survive.

For example, the act of attacking the wooden door. If it were a scenario where he was fighting a raider, as long as he closed the door and kept the skeleton outside, Liu Nian would have no choice but to fight him to the death.

Often, you are forced to choose your battlefield. The more thoroughly you understand the rules, the greater your chances of survival!

We'll need to find infected individuals later to test the skeletons' attack range and defense mechanisms.

"Let's go to the eighth floor first and see if there are any usable supplies." After thinking it over, we decided to start with what we could do first.

After taking about three steps, the skeleton began to follow closely behind Liu Nian.

On the way to the Black Rider Studio, two of the three infected individuals collapsed at the entrance to the stairwell and in the elevator, respectively, their bodies covered with wounds of varying depths.

The infected can only be eliminated by destroying their brains, so there are only two truly fatal wounds. This means that the probability of the skull hitting the head is very low, and the only way to kill the infected is by hoping for a successful skull hit.

The real surprise came from the studio: a card was found on the corpse of the first infected person to be eliminated.

Liu Nian bent down, picked it up, and read: "Supplies Card: A bag of bread"

What? You say it's not surprising enough?? When you're hungry, you get food, what more could you ask for to be a surprise?

Having learned from the experience with job change cards, using resource cards is no longer so surprising.

Liu Nian filled a cup with hot water from the water dispenser in the studio. The disposable cup could only hold a little, but it was enough. She happily ate the hot water.

After a night of hunger, Liu Nian's stomach was finally soothed, and she began to search for usable supplies.

Food, water, guns and ammunition—essential supplies for survival.

The studio wasn't big; it took half an hour to search inside and out.

Liu Nian put the collected supplies into the briefcase he had picked up and muttered to himself: "Two packs of instant noodles, three sausages, six bottles of mineral water, and three cans of Black Bull. The standard gear for a shut-in, poor programmer."

Unable to find a suitable weapon, Liu Nian had no choice but to smash a table and tear off a leg to use as a weapon.

Without any lock-picking tools, Liu Nian, standing at the entrance of Sihong Studio, could only sigh helplessly at the sight of the roller shutter door in front of him.

Currently, only one skeleton can be summoned; it must be due to a level restriction, Liu Nian concluded after another failed summoning attempt.

I glanced at my phone; it was 10:02. I currently had 44 magic points.

After calculating for a while, I figured I could recover about two mana points every hour.

Just to be on the safe side, Liu Nian moved the front desk table over to block the doorway. The space under the table was filled with discarded chairs and other items, and the table itself was piled with other collected items, leaving only a narrow tabletop for one person to pass through.

After doing all that and making sure nothing was left out, Liu Nian, carrying the skeleton and his briefcase, left the eighth floor.

Opening the wooden door on the seventh floor, the stench of blood was much stronger on the seventh floor than on the eighth floor.

Liu Nian's vigilance rose to another level. She put down her briefcase and slipped into the seventh-floor corridor.

When the skeleton warriors entered the stairwell, Liu Nian decisively ran out of the stairwell and casually threw the corner of the table into the depths of the stairwell.

"Knock knock knock"

Under the influence of gravity, the corner of the table rolled a few times unwillingly before coming to a stop.

The sound attracted several infected hiding nearby to come and investigate. The skeleton did not immediately attack the infected exposed in its field of vision. On the other side, the infected, finding no living creature, also lost their target and wandered around the corner of the table.

"I see." Liu Nian suddenly had an idea.

He turned around and walked back into the stairwell. The skeleton, who had originally wanted to follow Liu Nian out of the stairwell, also began to follow Liu Nian forward.

The scent of living people quickly attracted the attention of the infected people near the corner of the table, and the shout of one of the infected people drew the attention of those who had not noticed them before.

Suddenly, the hallway echoed with the screams of infected individuals, and heavy footsteps approached from the depths of the hallway.

"Here it comes!" Liu Nian swallowed hard and quickly left the stairwell, leaving the skeleton standing there dumbfounded.

The infected bumped into the skeleton and were then stopped by the wooden door, leaving them spinning around in frustration.

Meanwhile, the skeleton, who was staggering to its feet, sensed the infected's murderous intent and raised its bone knife.

The rest is up to time. Liu Nian leisurely looked at the layout of the street below from the rooftop and pondered his next plan.

It seems the skeleton's attack pattern is that it only retaliates after attacking me.

They have no sight and no hearing, and are passively followed.

Based on the observed information, Liu Nian drew the following conclusions.

[Congratulations to player Liu Nian for successfully killing the infected and gaining two experience points.]

The sudden voice in her mind interrupted Liu Nian's thoughts.

After receiving about ten prompts, there were no more prompts, so Liu Nian confidently went downstairs to check the results.

As for why they were so careless? The eighth floor was demolished so drastically, yet the infected person on the seventh floor didn't react, so what were they afraid of?

As expected, the journey down to the seventh floor was smooth sailing. Learning from the previous experience, Liu Nian carefully opened the wooden door this time. The skeleton sensed its master's arrival and, as always, poked its head out.

I glanced at the skeleton in front of me. Apart from being covered in blood and grime, there were several fresh footprints on the skull and other parts of it. There were no other obvious external injuries.

"It was clearly trampled, but there were no wounds on its body. Infected people don't attack inanimate objects, and skeletons... well, you could say that," Liu Nian thought to himself.

I'm still 70 experience points away from leveling up. I'll level up eventually by clearing through each level one by one.

To quell external threats, one must first secure internal stability. To avoid being attacked from both sides, we have no choice but to slowly wear them down.

After cleaning up this building, Liu Nian definitely needed to go home. The environment here was too unfamiliar, and being in a bustling area made her feel unsafe.

With so many infected people encountered, it's inevitable that a few mutated ones will emerge. With our current strength, it's practically just food delivery.

With these thoughts in mind, Liu Nian walked onto the seventh floor.
