Several weeks have passed since the spread of the purple wave, and now the bacteria teams of Aurora and the Slaanesh cultists are locked in a tug-of-war in major cities.
It is said that the fungal team from Aurora has never found the portal opened by the Slaanesh cultists.
From time to time, Slaanesh followers would come through the portal to reinforce, and they fought back and forth with the Sunborn team.
This invasion was even more serious than the Greenskins invasion, and the war severely impacted the lives of professionals.
Caravans and adventurers along the way were affected, and almost all adventures leaving the city came to a halt.
This has made the already sluggish economy even more depressed, and many people are taking risks just to have something to eat.
Occasionally, some daring individuals would go out on missions in groups, but they were all extremely cautious, fearing they might run into Slaanesh cultists.
As if that wasn't cruel enough, winter was fast approaching, and all living things were busy preparing for the winter, except for the two sides that were at war.
In order to stockpile food for the winter, more and more people are choosing to take risks, preferring to die in battle rather than starve to death.
However, not everyone thinks this way; some people don't go out to fight, but instead make a living by plundering.
In a remote border town in the North, a man dressed in black waits at a table in a simple restaurant.
I don't know if I'm waiting for a steaming hot meal or for other people to arrive.
Although the entire region was in a war zone, many people still chose to travel between the cities in order to have enough to eat.
Soon, the dilapidated wooden door of the restaurant was violently pushed open, and two burly men walked in.
Seeing someone come in, the sweet-looking waitress quickly got up to greet them. Although it was lunchtime, there were still very few people dining. She only had a job when customers came in.
When she saw that the people who came were the Kongming brothers, she glanced at them with disgust and quickly looked away to avoid being bothered by them.
These two bullies are the town's chronic problem; there's no cure for them.
They not only often eat without paying, but also demand protection money from the townspeople.
They had teased me before, so when I saw them coming, I instinctively got up and hid in the kitchen.
If they weren't of a high enough level, they would have been killed by the townspeople long ago!
They knew this, and taking advantage of it, they were very arrogant in the town.
As for the police department, this is just a small town, and there is no such institution.
Most adventurers just pass through here and no one bothers with their business, which makes them even more arrogant.
Their gazes toward him grew increasingly blatant. If no one intervened soon, he would have to go to City E to seek refuge with his aunt, otherwise he might be humiliated by them at any time.
The sound of the bell signaling the arrival of the meal snapped her out of her reverie. Seeing the slightly worried look on the chef's face in the kitchen, the waitress smiled faintly. With a heavy heart, she carried the prepared meal to the front of the restaurant.
The food in my hand is the chef's signature dish, and it was also the meal ordered by the only visitor today, a middle-aged man dressed in dark black.
Before they even got close, they could hear the two brothers making sarcastic remarks to the middle-aged man.
...
The scene shifts, and two men, whom the waiter calls bullies, push open the door and enter. Upon seeing the dark figure, they decisively walk towards this direction.
They were playing cards at the casino when they received a letter and decided to come to the appointment.
The letter was so infuriatingly worded that after viciously threatening the little brat who delivered it, they arrived at the meeting place mentioned in the letter.
They were determined to break a few of the intruder's ribs, no matter who they were, just to appease them.
As the only visitor in the store, there was no need for confirmation; everyone knew it was him.
The two brothers brazenly sized up the newcomer. The man opposite them looked quite ordinary and was very thin. Compared to their own size, he was nothing special and seemed like another weakling.
"So you're the one who sent us? Spit it out!" Kongming on the left glared disdainfully at the man before him and spoke rudely.
"Li Si's grocery store hopes that you two will not disturb them any further." The middle-aged man ignored their malice and spoke calmly and politely.
"So you want to be the first to stick your neck out, huh? How about we go to the alley behind the back gate and have another chat? Maybe you'll change your mind?" The two burst into laughter at his words, with Kong Liang cracking his knuckles, the threat unmistakable.
"Alright, you can beat me up, I won't fight back. But to say I'll fight back to you two is a bit of an exaggeration," the middle-aged man said in a low, polite voice.
Hearing this, the two burly men laughed even more unrestrainedly.
"This is obviously something you laymen like to do, but after that, when night falls, I will break into your house and kill everyone you know, and finally kill you. Of course, I will start with Kongming, so that you (Kong Liang) will have time to say goodbye to Tian Yin." The person sitting opposite them changed the subject, still speaking politely, as if he were just saying that the weather was nice today.
Tian Yin was Kong Liang's newlywed wife, and the two were deeply in love, even though she was his third wife.
Seeing the other person smiling at them, the two seemed to feel targeted by a dangerous predator. After their eyes met in the air, they couldn't help but lower their heads.
Their intuition told them that this was someone they couldn't afford to mess with; he must be a high-level adventurer whom they had never seen before in town.
A wise man doesn't fight a losing battle. Li Si, right? He can't protect you forever. We'll settle things slowly after this adventurer leaves!
"You're right, it's our fault. We'll go apologize to him right away, is that alright?" The two exchanged a glance, carefully apologizing and looking at the man opposite them in a flattering manner.
"Then what are you still standing here for?" the middle-aged man asked gently, issuing an order to leave.
The two men, as if granted a pardon, nodded hastily and carefully got up to leave.
At this moment, the waiter brought the food over and placed it in front of him. Watching the two leave in a disheveled state, he curiously sized up the man in front of him.
"Enjoy your meal!" the young waitress said sweetly.
The voice seemed to have a high sugar content. Liu Nian looked up and saw a plump and generous woman with a sweet smile.
"Thank you." He said a simple thank you in response, and placed a ten-crown chip on her plate as a tip.
"Thank you, and I hope you enjoy your meal again." The waitress noticed the chips on the plate, and her expression of gratitude was clearly excessively sweet.
Liu Nian ignored her and turned to the food in front of her.
As for what just happened, it was indeed a request I took on casually. It was made by a little boy when I was buying some necessities at that general store.
He was bored anyway, so he just took the job, and the reward was a whole crown.
Just as he expected, the mission was incredibly boring; the two of them were just bullying ordinary people by taking advantage of their level.
We'll definitely have to spend the night here; after we finish eating, we'll need to find somewhere else to stay.
Trouble! Liu Nian scratched his head.
A few days later, the Kong brothers, Kong Ming and Kong Liang, were nowhere to be seen, and everyone was on tenterhooks. Then, the neighbors noticed a rotten smell coming from the house, and a few of them mustered up their courage and went in to take a look.
Several pools of blood and pieces of flesh were found in the room, and the stench of decay was emanating from these remains.
Everyone pinched their noses and cleaned up the debris. One sharp-eyed person noticed a tattoo among the debris and was shocked to discover that the pile of debris was actually Kongming's corpse. He was so frightened that he quickly threw the debris on the ground and ran out of Kongming's house without looking back.
After several days of development, no one has figured out what happened, so they just laughed it off as a joke.
Night fell, and the town quieted down again, awaiting a new day and the arrival of new adventurers. As for whether Chen Ming and Chen Liang would reappear, that remained to be seen.
