In the distance of the swamp, a raven perches atop a thick patch of fluorescent grass, its eyes fixed intently on a spot on the ground.
The soft soil was occasionally thrown into the air by a mysterious force, and it seemed that some kind of creature or some kind of force was gathering beneath the surface.
The ground was irregularly raised, and the ridges seemed to have a built-in positioning system, moving towards Liu Nian's direction.
Through the crow's perspective, Liu Nian discovered that there were approximately three abnormal protrusions rushing towards him.
Having determined that there were only these three locations, he dared not be careless and quickly brought his consciousness back to his body to prepare a battle plan.
After roughly determining the direction of the three protrusions, he directed the skeleton warriors to move towards those raised areas.
As a scout, the skeleton warrior quickly reached the raised ground.
The three suspicious protrusions were now moving forward steadily. Despite the skeleton warrior blocking their way, they continued to advance straight toward Liu Nian, as if the skeleton warrior did not exist.
The skeleton warriors were not annoyed. They gradually formed a circle around the three protruding points, and then sent out a few skeleton warriors to probe the area.
As they slowly approached, some skeleton warriors had already stepped on them, but nothing changed. However, a few skeleton warriors who were close to the raised mound of earth took a step and fell to the ground.
Seeing that they were about to break through the encirclement, the skeleton warriors grabbed their weapons and thrust them into the raised ground, hoping to reveal the secrets hidden within these mounds of earth.
Unfortunately, it had no effect. The mysterious substance underground was much deeper than they had imagined. The skeleton warrior's weapon only struck a puddle of mud. The creatures underground were completely unaffected and continued to advance steadily toward Liu Nian.
Seeing that the skeleton warriors' attacks were ineffective, Liu Nian simply let the surrounding evil spirits scatter, took a few steps forward, and waited for the monsters in the mounds of earth to arrive.
There were dozens of steps between them, and Liu Nian's mind wandered aimlessly.
It seems it's determined to go head-to-head with me, to challenge Huaxiang. Do you have the capability?
Although I don't have a watermelon knife, chopping you all is still as easy as cutting melons and vegetables.
The tension was calmed by the earlier banter. After all, they were facing unknown monsters. Liu Nian first cast a magic shield on himself, intending to risk his life.
The wounds from the attack by the power in the darkness have been slowly healed and restored by the intermediate-level cultivator.
"I'm at full health, I don't believe you can kill me in one hit!" Liu Nian mustered his courage as he watched the raised mound of earth approach him.
Then the evil spirits around him were slowly pushed away by the monsters inside the mound. As the mound slowly rose closer, Liu Nian's heart was in his throat, waiting for the monsters inside to attack.
Unless he knows earth magic, he has no way to deal with the monsters hiding underground.
Liu Nian's most frequently used curse magic can only target the visible area and still cannot penetrate the ground.
He didn't have to wait long before the monster from the ground suddenly rose into the air.
As the swamp's silt dispersed, the monsters beneath the earth revealed their hideous faces.
The three of them lined up and attacked Liu Nian with their mouths wide open. Their terrifying maws extended to an astonishing arc, and two rows of sharp teeth inside gleamed with a cold light as they slammed straight into Liu Nian's shield.
Ripples spread across the shield's surface, but it remained sturdy. The monsters' attacks were clearly not as fierce as expected; their assaults were easily neutralized, failing to penetrate Liu Nian's shield.
Seeing that everything was alright, Liu Nian began to look the three underground monsters up and down.
Part of their bodies were still covered by mud, but the exposed parts were still a head taller than Liu Nian.
Its scales, a mix of red and purple, stretched from its body to the top of its head, as hard as rock. However, what was somewhat amusing was that this ferocious-looking monster had a pale blue fruit growing on its head, making it look rather comical.
[Abyssal Worm] (Level 36 Elite Unit)
Attack power: 75
Defense: 20-30
Health Points: 9000
The stats are decent, but the lack of skills significantly reduces its threat level. Liu Nian has faced much stronger monsters before, so he won't be afraid to deal with them anymore.
After their attack failed, the abyssal worms tried the same trick again, attempting to burrow back underground.
If they were allowed to come and go freely, where would Liu Nian put his face?
Do they really think this is a public restroom?
The cave demons had been waiting for a long time, and when the opportunity arose, they shot out their webs, briefly trapping the creatures in the swamp.
Dense spider silk bound them together, and the ghoul lord stepped forward first, opening his massive maw to bite down on a struggling abyssal worm.
The abyssal worm, bitten on the neck, writhed in pain, but the ghoul lord was unaffected. It unleashed its devouring skill and, as if eating a spicy snack, slowly swallowed the entire abyssal worm.
A bottomless hole was instantly left on the ground, but after the ghoul lord finished swallowing one abyssal worm, he seemed to be somewhat unsatisfied, and stared at the remaining two abyssal worms with predatory eyes.
The remaining two abyssal worms seemed to know that the spider web was tough and not something they could easily deal with. They twisted their bodies even more violently, eager to break free of the spider web and escape back to the underground.
At this moment, the evil spirits in the front row were pushed aside again. It turned out that the abomination from the other side had arrived. It was not to be outdone. It opened its mouth and bit one of them, using dismemberment to activate the putrid plague on its body at the same time.
Taking advantage of its weakness, the Dread Knight stepped forward and swung his saber, striking the dismembered Abyss Worm directly. The blow nearly cleaved the Abyss Worm in two and triggered a curse effect.
Then the evil spirits surrounded them again and mercilessly killed the trapped abyssal worms.
After the abyssal worm that had been ganged up on successfully descended, only one of the original three worms remained.
This stubborn fellow clearly hadn't learned his lesson and still attacked Liu Nian from underground like a lone hero.
Having learned from the previous experience, Liu Nian was completely at ease. The mysterious monsters were far more terrifying than the monsters that had shown their faces.
Now that they knew their strength, these abyssal worms were no longer a threat.
As the abyss worm burst forth from the ground, Liu Nian unleashed all the debuffs he had learned upon it the instant it emerged.
Its final attack failed to budge Liu Nian's shield in the slightest. Immediately, the spiderwebs of the cave-dwelling demons attacked from all directions, trapping it firmly on the ground.
Seeing the evil spirits quickly closing in, Liu Nian quietly retreated before the worm's next attack, getting out of its attack range.
Then, swarms of vampires surrounded it, and together with the attacks from the ground demons, the blows from all directions instantly tore its skin and flesh to shreds.
Without giving it another chance to burrow, the Dread Knight sliced it in two.
