Chapter 30 Delayed Loading

Liu Nian was unaware that he had been cleared of suspicion and was being treated as the landlord's foolish son.

His miscalculation was that he hadn't communicated with others; he judged others' drop rates based on his own.

Little did they know that none of the leaders and their numerous subordinates in the entire community were so extravagant as to use the food from the cards as their main meals.

Four days into the game, many survivors who had run out of food at home began to venture out, either voluntarily or involuntarily, bringing a glimmer of life back to the silent land.

Most people received their first card in their lives.

After the game system is activated, humans who have strengthened themselves to varying degrees face off against infected individuals weakened by the passage of time, and gradually gain the upper hand.

Players who have read post-apocalyptic novels or played survival games can learn from their experiences and more accurately find the supplies they need.

A cold, robotic voice came from the system, and then the Blood Moon Gate in the clouds opened again.

Numerous burning fireballs poured out of the door and fell to various parts of the blue planet.

After the fireball struck the ground, monsters of various shapes and sizes emerged from the scorching earth.

"I can only stall this far. Good luck!" someone muttered to themselves as they watched the monsters roaming around on the screen.

Liu Nian was on her way home when she heard the system's notification in her mind.

Little Black seemed to sense the danger and anxiously circled above his head.

Wow~ Wow~ Wow

It swooped down from the sky, pecking at Liu Nian's clothes and dragging him into a house on the side of the street.

Liu Nian was not dragged by it, of course. Just as he was wondering, countless "meteors" streaked across the sky, several of which were heading straight for Liu Nian.

"So that's what happened." Grabbing the little black dog that was still clinging to his sleeve, Liu Nian took off running towards the nearby houses.

Seeing the meteor about to hit the ground, Liu Nian thought, "Oh no, it's going to explode!" Looking at the houses not far away, he steeled himself, pushed off with his feet, and leaped into the air. He smashed open the door of the house with his shoulder, ignoring the pain in his shoulder. He rolled a few times on the ground and rolled into the gap in the stairwell.

The meteor struck the spot where Liu Nian had just been standing. If he hadn't dodged in time, he probably would have died on the spot.

Looking out from the gate of the house, the explosion he had imagined did not occur. However, a large crater was smashed into the street, followed by a burst of flames from the crater, and a strangely shaped creature crawled out.

The creature is dark green all over, the height of an adult male, with a head the size of a normal human and eyes that are always closed. Most memorable of all is its tongue, which is covered with barbs and moves flexibly with its movements.

Perhaps because it had not found any living people, it stretched out its paw to extinguish the flames on its body and staggered forward.

"To fight or not to fight?" This thought flashed through Liu Nian's mind.

War is inevitable, but it's better to be cautious after a recent update.

"Let's test its abilities first."

Stepping out of the house, Liu Nian looked at the creature not far away and directed the skeleton to walk towards it.

A sudden "click-clack" sound rang out on the quiet street—the sound of a skeleton's footsteps.

Attracted by the sound of the skeleton's footsteps, it turned around and "looked" over.

It moved forward several meters, and when it was still some distance from the skeleton, it stuck out its tongue.

The tongue seemed to come alive, growing several meters long and wrapping around the skeleton's waist. Before the skeleton could react, the tongue tightened, carrying the skeleton away in its direction.

Upon seeing this, Liu Nian instinctively shuddered. If it were to get entangled by its tongue, the consequences would be unimaginable.

If this is all there is to it, it's not too difficult for him. Looking at the unfortunate skeleton struggling to hold on, Liu Nian commanded the other summoned creatures to go and provide support.

Liu Nian and Tiffany carefully moved forward.

As for why he had to go there? Spells also require casting range, and if he was too far away from the summoned creatures, they would abandon their attack target and turn back to guard Liu Nian's side.

Looking at the "bone wall" between Liu Nian and it, Liu Nian confidently chanted the incantation, preparing to release the "fear".

Upon seeing this, Tiffany in front of her also raised her staff and muttered incantations.

Fear and fatigue struck it almost simultaneously.

Both spells were successfully cast, and it took a few steps with its short legs, retreating in vain.

At this speed, they were quickly overtaken by the summoned creatures that came to their aid.

After three seconds of fear, it was horrified to find itself completely surrounded.

Even the nimble tongue, under the effects of the fatigue spell, slumped listlessly to the ground.

He was only wearing a tattered piece of clothing that resembled work clothes, and it didn't seem to offer any armor.

Lacking armor for cover, and with their bodies subjected to attacks from all sides, defeat was only a matter of time.

Finally, the two ghouls opened their huge mouths, bit its shoulder, and dragged it backward with force. The wounded creature collapsed to the ground from the force.

He never got up again after that fall.

The tongue limply wrapped around the neck of one of the ghouls, while its body was pierced through the heart by a scythe from one of the surrounding skeletons.

After its legs trembled violently a few times, the tongue slid off the ghoul's neck.

[Congratulations to player Liu Nian for successfully killing the Licker and gaining 15 experience points]

A notification popped up in Liu Nian's mind, and he realized the battle was over.

Surrounded by summoned creatures, Liu Nian walked to the Licker's side. The ghoul sniffed its body and then walked away in disgust.

Perhaps because it had defeated the Licker for the first time, it generously left behind a card and a pile of what looked like casino chips.

[Antidote]

Note: Big Brother, it's time to take your medicine!

He then picked up the chips from the ground.

[Player has been detected to possess in-game currency; a lottery pool and mystery shop are now open.]

Liu Nian curiously picked up the game coin and examined it closely. The coin was made of an unknown material, as light as a feather. The front showed the denomination, and the back showed a design. Different denominations had different colors.

Once again, the administrator noticed an unusual data fluctuation while in front of the screen.

After a series of keystrokes on the keyboard in front of the screen, the data was retrieved.

"Successfully killed four Cleaners."

This line of text on the screen is highlighted with a red line.

"That's impossible. How could anyone kill a Cleaner at this stage?"

The Cleaner, deployed before the version update, is extremely powerful.

It's used to clean up redundant data, something the current version can't possibly defeat.

If players see the image on the screen, they will realize that the Cleaner is the horned monster that Liu Nian killed.

"Liu Nian, interesting!" After glancing at the data again, the administrator chose to restore it.
