Chapter 4: Buying Slaves and Arriving at the Mountains

After bidding farewell to Mrs. Ellie, Martin made a special trip to the military camp to visit Captain Vali. A moment later, he walked out of the camp alone and met up with Betan and his group who were waiting outside.

Immediately afterwards, escorted by a small group of soldiers from the barracks, the group marched towards the Luoqiu Mountains in a mighty procession.

Along the way, they passed through villages and crossed fields. The common people and serfs saw this team of knights and soldiers and saluted respectfully.

Thanks to the horses' strength, they arrived near the Luoqiu Mountains in just half an hour.

This place was originally just a small village, but as the number of people coming and going continued to increase, it gradually expanded into a small town.

This expansion in scale was also recognized by the Earl. Most of those who came here were free mercenaries, and some were looking to get rich overnight.

The gathering of people naturally gave rise to various kinds of trade, among which the slave trade was particularly popular.

The mayor of the town learned in advance that Martin was coming and was waiting at the town gate early.

When Martin came on horseback and led the crowd closer, the mayor hurried forward, smiling and saluted respectfully.

Martin looked at the flattering mayor in front of him and asked, "Mayor, I'm new in Luoqiu Town. I heard the slave trade here is very prosperous, so I want to go to the slave market and choose some slaves."

The mayor nodded and bowed quickly, saying, "Don't worry, Master Martin! I can't promise anything else, but I know everything about the slave trade. I'll take you to the largest and best slave market in town."

As you walk into the town, you can hear the shouts of buyers and sellers, and the sounds of children laughing and playing.

The mercenaries and the townspeople, seeing the mayor approaching with a group of people with a fawning look on his face, consciously moved aside, fearing that they might accidentally displease the noble lord and be struck by a sword.

The civilians in the village also saluted the mayor and Martin and his party.

After a while, they arrived at the trading market.

The slave owners saw this scene and rushed out to watch. "Who is this noble lord? Such a grand display!" one of the slave owners asked curiously.

The person next to him glanced at him and whispered, "You don't even know this person? This is the Earl's son. I think his name is Martin White. He is the Earl's fifth child."

"In the earldom, you may not know all the other nobles, but you must know the earl and his descendants. Otherwise, if you offend them one day, you will die without knowing how."

Another mercenary heard this and said disdainfully, "You still want to offend him? I'm afraid by then you won't even be able to get close to him, so there's no chance of offending him!"

The mercenaries and slave owners whispered to each other that in this continent with a strict class system, if the nobles disliked someone and took their life at will, that person would have no way to seek justice.

The mayor summoned the tax collector, the head of the slave market. The tax collector was responsible for supervising the slave trade and collecting taxes, and he was familiar with the market.

Martin explained his requirements to the tax collector, who immediately went back and forth between the stalls of the various slave owners. After a while, he brought slave owners and slaves who met the requirements to Martin.

Martin identified the slaves one by one, and after screening, he found that only 26 half-orcs and 60 orcs met the criteria.

He carefully selected the group again and finally managed to gather 100 people. After paying the money, the group continued on their way to the Luoqiu Mountains.

Martin knew that cultivating talents was not a matter of a day or a night, so he did not intend to invest too many resources in these slaves.

There are many alien races and slaves in the Luoqiu Mountains. He won't feel bad even if he discards these orcs after using them, as long as they can achieve their goals and don't waste his gold coins.

Because the team was carrying 100 slaves, their progress was much slower. It wasn't until around 5 pm that they finally reached the pass of the Luoqiu Mountains.

Beitan looked at the sky and said, "Master, it seems that we don't have time to go in today. How about we rest for a night and go into the mountain tomorrow?"

Martin shook his head and said firmly, "No, we have to go in at night to have a chance to capture those monsters. Only monsters captured alive can be sold at a good price.

Now, let's all rest here for a while." He called a knight and asked him to ride back to tell the steward that they would not be returning to the castle that night.
