Chapter 11: Communications Council, the Earl's Defeat

After having the pharmacist take the unconscious knight and griffin away for treatment.

The Earl's face was grim. He entered the study and headed straight for the large communication crystal. His fingers trembled slightly, his heart filled with anxiety and uneasiness as he activated the crystal with force.

With a flash of light, the communication was connected, and the Earl informed the Kingdom Parliament of the tragic news that Frost Zero Pass had been breached by the Orc Kingdom.

As soon as the news broke, the entire parliament erupted in excitement, with exclamations and discussions rising one after another. Speaker Malcador abruptly stood up, slamming his hands on the table. His expression was solemn and resolute, and he shouted an order: "Earl White, immediately dispatch the Imperial Tenth Legion, currently stationed on the border and undergoing repairs, to rush to support Frost Zero Pass! Plug the gap in the defenses at all costs. We must not allow the orcs to fester in the north. Otherwise, the consequences will be disastrous!"

The light from the communication crystal went out, and Earl White's expression darkened. He knew the situation was urgent and couldn't afford to lose a second. He quickly pulled out the small communication crystal from his waist, his fingers dancing across it as he relayed the order to the Imperial Tenth Legion to assemble immediately and march to Frost Zero Pass.

After sending the order, the Earl did not stop for a moment and immediately began to contact the nobles in the north.

He first contacted the most powerful Marquis Roderick. After the crystal was connected, the Marquis said in a serious tone, "Marquis Roderick, the Frost Zero Pass has been breached by orcs. I have just notified the Royal Capital Council, and the Council has ordered me to lead the Empire's Tenth Legion to Frost Zero Pass to seal the breach."

"But Frost Zero Pass has been breached. The orcs should have crossed the checkpoint and are heading straight for the North. The North is in imminent danger. You must gather your troops as soon as possible and be ready to march north at any time." Upon hearing this, Marquis Roderick immediately expressed his full cooperation.

Afterwards, Earl Walter contacted other small and medium-sized nobles one by one. Although the process was cumbersome, he patiently explained the severity of the situation to each noble and urged them to seize the time to gather troops and be ready to be deployed at any time.

Thanks to his unremitting efforts, the entire northern territory began to operate rapidly.

Martin paced back and forth across the room, his boots clacking against the wooden floor. Outside, the sky darkened, but the unease within him spread like wildfire. The news that the orcs had breached Frost Zero Pass weighed heavily on his heart.

Finally, a burst of hurried footsteps was heard, and the butler walked into the room, saying in a hurried tone: "Master Martin, the Earl asked everyone to gather in the hall." Martin took a deep breath, straightened his clothes, and walked quickly towards the hall.

In the hall, Earl White stood before the crowd with a solemn expression. The ladies were pale, their worries evident. Eldest son Karen clenched his fists. Belin, Wayne, and Derry White also wore serious expressions, their gazes fixed on the Earl.

The Earl spoke slowly, "Frost Zero Pass has been breached, and the orcs could invade the northern border at any time. Sword Oath City is closest to Frost Zero Pass. I have ordered the remaining four knight orders to return to Sword Oath City immediately, and have the two regular legions stationed in the fortresses on either side of the city."

"I will lead the Vali Knights to reunite with the Tenth Legion, and I will entrust the family affairs to you. Karen, you are the eldest son, you must shoulder the family honor and protect the castle and your family." Karen nodded heavily, with determination in his eyes.

Then, the Earl looked at the other sons and said, "Follow Karen and assist him in handling affairs. Remember, never let your guard down." The sons straightened their backs and responded loudly, "Yes, father."

After explaining everything, the Earl turned and strode out the door. The Vali Knights had already assembled in the courtyard, their horses neighing, the knights clad in armor, their expressions solemn. The Earl mounted his horse, raised his sword high, and shouted, "Move!" Riding the gradually darkening sky, the Earl and the Knights quickly hurried towards Frost Zero Pass.

Martin watched the knights departing, feeling a mixture of emotions. He knew that from this moment on, the fate of the North hung in the balance.

Back in his room, Martin stayed awake all night.

The next morning, Karen gathered everyone to discuss defenses. Martin suggested strengthening patrols at the mansion and setting up lookouts in case of an emergency. Karen accepted his suggestion and quickly assigned personnel to carry it out.

As the days passed, news from the front lines fluctuated. Every time the communication crystal lit up, everyone's heart leaped to their throats. One day, the crystal brought word that the Imperial Tenth Legion had successfully joined forces with Earl White's Vali Knights, launching a counterattack against the orcs, easing the situation slightly. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this.

However, the good times didn't last long. A few days later, news arrived that the Orc Kingdom had sent reinforcements, and the two sides had engaged in an extremely brutal battle on the Frost Zero Plains.
