Chapter 95: Border Loss

The ground at the city gate was soaked with blood, and under the light of the fire it glowed a strange dark red, as if it was covered with a layer of gorgeous red silk.

Corpses were lying all over the ground, many of them with their eyes wide open, unable to understand why their comrades who had been with them day and night would suddenly raise their knives against them.

Military officer Chen Dayong covered the wound on his stomach, blood gushing out from between his fingers.

He stared at Bian Xiang in front of him. The familiar face seemed terribly strange at this moment.

Just yesterday, they were drinking together in the tavern under the city wall. Chen Dayong laughed at Bian Xiang for not being able to find a wife. Bian Xiang blushed and said that he would propose marriage after receiving his military pay.

But today, Bian Xiang attacked him from behind.

"Why...why?" Chen Dayong spoke with difficulty, blood foam overflowing from the corners of his mouth with every word he spoke.

Bian Xiang's hands were shaking slightly, but his voice was as cold as iron, "The dead don't need to know so much."

After saying that, he stabbed Chen Dayong again. When Chen Dayong's body fell heavily to the ground, Bian Xiang's mind emerged the happiness on Chen Dayong's face when he talked about his wife and daughter.

"sorry……"

Bian Xiang spoke in a low voice that only he could hear, then he looked around and saw everyone lying in a pool of blood, and those who were standing were all his subordinates.

"Open the gates."

Bian Xiang's voice was hoarse.

Several confidants looked at each other and walked silently towards the capstan. The heavy axle wheel of the city gate made a harsh squeak, like the groan of a dying person.

Soon, the city gate was completely opened, and Bian Xiang turned around and disappeared into the night with his men.

"Chief, the gate seems to be open."

Some southern barbarians noticed the situation here and spoke with excitement.

Agulli also saw it and narrowed his eyes slightly. How could the city gate be opened for no reason? With the faint light of the fire, he saw the corpses lying all over the city gate.

The offensive of the troops on the city wall was not as fierce as before, and it seemed that something was wrong.

"Go in."

Agulli spoke up and said that no matter whether it was a trap or not, it was an opportunity. As long as they could rush into the city, Agulli believed that with the combat power of their southern barbarian warriors, these border troops would not be able to stop them.

"kill!"

Angry roars rang out, and the rattan-armored soldiers rushed towards the city gate like a tide.

"My lord, it's bad. The city gate has been opened."

"Damn it! What are Chen Dayong and Bian Xiang doing?"

Captain Ji Chang spoke angrily. Wang Hu was killed and he was now the supreme commander of the border army. He originally thought that he could stop the attack from the Southern Barbarians, but he did not expect that the city gate would be opened.

"Stop them, don't let them in."

"You guys take the men to guard the city wall, and the rest of you follow me."

Ji Chang rushed down the city wall and saw that the southern barbarian soldiers in rattan armor had rushed into the city gate and were fighting with the border troops who had rushed over.

The border troops fought and retreated at the same time, and some of them were unable to resist.

"Form a battle formation! Form a battle formation!" Ji Chang shouted at the top of his lungs, and many border troops began to form a battle formation.

At this moment, a strange sound was heard outside the city gate. The next second, a large black cloud flew in from the city gate and flew towards the border troops in formation.

"It's a poisonous bee!"

Some border soldiers shouted in fear, followed by screams. The battle formation that had just been formed collapsed in an instant. The soldiers in rattan armor rushed forward. The border troops could not resist at all and were defeated one after another.

Another strange sound was heard, and the poisonous bees flew out, surrounding a woman outside the city gate, and then entered the bamboo basket behind the woman.

"Ayina, well done."

Agulli looked at his sister and laughed.

Aina also smiled. She was very happy to be able to help her brother. Now no one should be able to stop the barbarian warriors from rushing into the city.

"Retreat! Retreat to the west gate!"

Ji Chang looked at the defeated border troops and issued an order to retreat. He knew that this border town could no longer be defended.

A large number of southern barbarians poured into the city, and the people screamed and fled in all directions. The barbarians ignored the fleeing border troops and civilians, but rushed into the houses to look for food.

This border town stockpiled some food. Even in years of famine, the food was not eaten up. Of course, it was not good stuff either. It consisted of tree bark, grass roots, wild vegetables, and brown rice.

Even so, the barbarians were happy. Now they were not picky, as long as it was edible, it was fine.

Soon, the whole city was occupied by the southern barbarians. Agulli counted the casualties and found that he had brought out 50,000 people and lost more than a thousand people, which was within his acceptable range.

"Make a fire, cook, and have a good meal."

Soon fireworks started to rise. “Brother, should we continue?”

Aina spoke up. Now that they had captured the border town and killed many border soldiers, it was considered revenge for the dead tribesmen. They had also obtained so much food. Aina felt that it was enough.

Agul touched her head and said, "Little sister, all the tribes sent out soldiers this time, not just to satisfy a border town. For so many years, we have been oppressed. We surrendered to the Jing Dynasty, but in return we were subjected to heavy taxes. If we didn't pay the taxes, they would block the trade."

"Since we are sending troops this time, let's beat them hard and let them know that we are not so easy to bully."

Hearing this, Aina pursed her lips and wanted to say something.

Agul said: "Well, if you don't want to follow the army, you can go back first."

After dinner, the chiefs of each tribe approached Agulli and expressed their desire to divide their forces. Their purpose was not really to attack the city, but to steal things.

It would be better to snatch them separately, so that whatever they snatched would be theirs. Agulli thought about it and agreed, as they had always done so in the past.

They rob and run, and since they are few in number, they are highly maneuverable and can move to multiple places.
