Chapter 121 What kind of aunt does she have?

Wu Huaiqing was puzzled. "What do you mean by 'avoiding medical treatment for fear of illness'?"

Yu Yao's expression changed, and she quickly tried to laugh it off.

"It's nothing, Lu Ze just meant that you should take care of yourself," Yu Yao explained, waving to Lu Ze. "Lu Ze, you can go back now. The ship is here, let's get on board."

After saying that, he hurriedly pulled Wu Huaiqing and Wu Wanying onto the boat, afraid that if they were a step too slow, they would be exposed.

Lu Ze watched her board the ship and leave only after she entered the cabin.

The journey from ship to train was tiring, but relatively smooth.

Upon arriving at the Qin Province Guesthouse, the sun was about to set, so the three decided to rest for the night and visit the Baihe Brigade the next day.

Besides wanting to pay respects to Sun Meiqin, Wu Wanying also wanted to visit Yu Defu.

Yu Yao hesitated for a moment but still agreed.

If it were her, given Yu Defu's attitude towards the original owner of this body over the years, she would not go back.

But Wu Wanying and the others are different.

Regardless of how Yu Defu treated Yu Yao, he still raised their daughter out of compassion and reason, so he should still visit her.

Whether there will be deeper contact in the future depends on how the two families get along.

This was Yu Yao's first time returning home after her marriage, and Wu Wanying specially went to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy many gifts.

Besides giving thanks to Yu Defu, she also wanted to personally visit and thank the brigade leader, Aunt Wang, and Director Yu Lan, who had previously taken good care of Yu Yao.

After arriving at Baihe Brigade by oxcart, Yu Yao and the others got off and gave the old man a pack of cigarettes. "Grandpa, thank you for the oxcart."

"You're welcome, you're welcome." The old man grinned, revealing his missing teeth, and carefully put the cigarette into his pocket.

Carrying her suitcase, Wu Wanying looked at the beautiful green mountains around her and exclaimed, "This environment is really nice."

“Mom, brother, do you see that loquat tree? That’s Baihe Brigade.” Yu Yao pointed to the huge loquat tree at the end of the muddy road. “Every year when the loquats ripen, the brigade leader takes the lead in picking them. The loquats from this tree in our brigade are very juicy and sweet.”

As Wu Wanying and Wu Huaiqing listened to her tell interesting stories about Baihe Brigade, they followed her towards the brigade.

It was during work hours, and there weren't many people on the road.

The houses in Baihe Brigade were all made of yellow earth and mud, with only one or two brick and tile houses occasionally visible. Those were the former residences of landlords, which were later taken over by the brigade after the landlords were overthrown.

They arrived at the Yu family's house quickly, and Yu Yao was somewhat surprised by the state of the yard.

The yard had clearly been redesigned; the original woodshed had been rebuilt, and a shed had been erected in the corner, under which several chickens were pecking at food.

Yu Defu hated chickens the most, and thought that chicken droppings were too smelly and not worthy of his status as the first worker in Baihe Brigade. How could he raise chickens?

Yu Yao stood at the gate of the courtyard. The main room was open, but there was no one in the courtyard.

Is anyone there?

"Someone's here, wait a moment, they'll be right there!" The voice came from the kitchen. A short while later, a middle-aged woman came out of the main room. When she saw Yu Yao at the door, she hesitated. "Are you Yu Yao, the daughter of the Yu family who married into the Yue Island family?"

Why did Yu Yao come knocking on our door? Could it be that she's changed her mind and wants to take the house back?

That won't do; they've already bought the house.

Yu Yao had already sensed something was amiss, and to be sure, she asked again, "Isn't this the Yu family home? Where's Yu Defu?"

The middle-aged woman said impatiently, "Shortly after you got married, Yu Defu sold the house. Now our family lives in it. We paid a high price for it, and we're not going to give it back to you."

Upon hearing this, Yu Yao exchanged a glance with Wu Wanying and Wu Huaiqing.

Wu Wanying asked with a gentle smile, "Auntie, did Comrade Yu Defu say where he moved to?"

The other person looked at Yu Yao beside her with a strange expression. "Yu Defu's daughter is right next to you. Why don't you ask her? How am I supposed to know if you're just buying a house?"

Just then, the gate to the neighboring yard opened, and Aunt Wang saw Yu Yao and hurried over, saying, "Yu Yao, please come and sit in my yard for a while."

Upon entering the courtyard, Aunt Wang looked at the almost identical faces of Wu Wanying and Yu Yao and asked, "Yu Yao, who is this?"

Wu Wanying stepped forward with a smile and handed over the gift: "You must be Aunt Wang. I am Yu Yao's biological mother, Wu Wanying. I heard from Yu Yao that you used to take care of her often. This is a small token of our appreciation. Please accept it and thank you for taking care of us over the years."

Aunt Wang probably guessed the relationship between the two, and declined the gifts, saying, "Comrade Wu, we are all happy for Yu Yao to find her biological parents. You should take these things back. I watched Yu Yao grow up, so it is only right for me to take care of her."

"We've already bought everything, Aunt Wang, please accept it. It's our way of showing our gratitude as parents."

Yu Yao also chimed in, "Aunt Wang, just accept it. It's just some food, nothing valuable."

Aunt Wang smiled and said, "Alright then, since you've all said so, I won't stand on ceremony. Let's have lunch at my house later."

After saying that, he turned to his grandson, who was chasing dogs and chickens, and said, "Little Tiger, go to the field and tell your grandpa that your sister Yu Yao is having lunch at our house. Ask him to go up the mountain and get some good food."

"Yay, we've got pheasant to eat!" Little Tiger ran off excitedly.

Several people sat in the courtyard drinking water and chatting.

Aunt Wang first asked Yu Yao how she was doing on the island, and when she learned that she was happy, she was relieved.

Yu Yao thought of Yu Defu and asked, "Aunt Wang, do you know where my dad went? What happened? Why did he sell the house?"

"It's a long story," Aunt Wang said, glancing around to make sure no one was watching. "When your father went to work in town, he met a widow who was visiting from out of town. They somehow fell in love and got married."
