Chapter 206 Yu Yao is Destined for Wealth

Yu Yao checked her beachcombing tools.

Oyster knife, gloves, bucket, shovel, small net bag, and most importantly, rain boots.

After everything was ready, Yu Yao went out.

At the entrance of the courtyard, besides Aunt Ge and Su Meihua whom I knew, there were two other military dependents I didn't recognize but whose faces were familiar. Everyone was dressed similarly.

Once everyone had arrived, Aunt Ge waved her hand and said, "Let's go."

Yu Yao looked around. "Where's Sister-in-law Sun Yu? Isn't she always the one who loves these kinds of activities?"

Speaking of her daughter-in-law, Aunt Ge's face was full of smiles. "She's quite far along in her pregnancy. The doctor said her due date is the 10th of next month. Qin Ye and I are worried about her going out, so we've asked her to stay home and rest."

Hearing her say that, Yu Yao was surprised to realize how quickly time had passed, and that her sister-in-law Sun Yu was about to give birth.

It's been almost half a year since she arrived on the island.

This time, Yu Yao and her friends were going to a mangrove forest five kilometers away from the island compound. The area was all mudflats, and the main catch from beachcombing was shellfish, crabs, and snails.

The five of them chatted as they walked, and time flew by. When they arrived at their destination, it was still early.

The other two military wives came mainly to collect some snails and jade snails, which was different from Yu Yao's group. When they arrived at the mangrove forest, they separated from them.

Yu Yao and the others continued walking south for a while before stopping.

"We're here." Aunt Ge pointed to the rocky area not far away. "See those rocks over there? That's where I pried the oysters I brought back last time."

The three of them put on gloves, picked up buckets, and headed towards the rocky area.

Upon arriving at the rocky area, one can see that the rocks are covered with irregularly shaped, grayish-white or brown oysters, densely packed and everywhere.

Yu Yao and Su Meihua were extremely surprised.

"My God, there are so many oysters! How long will it take to dig them all?" Su Meihua's face was full of excitement. With resources scarce, everyone wanted to take home all the oysters they could pick up for free.

Aunt Ge said with a smug look on her face, "This is a treasure trove that I stumbled upon. I don't usually bring people here. The water quality is good, and not many people come here. The oysters on the rocks are not only big, but also plentiful. We can dig for them for a long time."

The rocks here are all very large. Yu Yao randomly chose a rock covered with life. Standing in front of the rock is like standing in front of a wall of oysters.

Of course, not all of these oysters are edible. Some are small with little meat in the shell, while others have cracked shells and the meat inside has been eaten by something, leaving only remains.

She had only ever eaten oysters from street food stalls that had been pried off countless days ago; she had never tasted what oysters freshly plucked from the rocks tasted like.

Just as Yu Yao was about to use an oyster knife to pry open an oyster and try it, she heard Aunt Ge call her name, "Yu Yao, look over there, isn't that Commander Lu?"

Lu Ze?

Yu Yao looked in the direction Aunt Ge had indicated and indeed saw three figures walking in.

The tall, handsome man at the head of the group was none other than her husband, Lu Ze.

The other two are Political Commissar Qin and Regiment Commander Lei.

Yu Yao was surprised, "Why did you come here?"

Lu Ze also had beachcombing tools in his hand. "I've arranged everything. It's rare for me to have time, so I came to come and go beachcombing with you."

Su Meihua and Aunt Ge were also surprised. "Commander Lu is here to accompany Yu Yao. What are you two doing here?"

Political Commissar Qin and Regiment Commander Lei said in unison, "Of course we're here to help too."

Su Meihua looked incredulous. "Are you out of your mind? I would have believed you if Qin Zhengwu and Commander Lu had come to help. You hate beachcombing, saying it's something only women like to do."

"Didn't you tell me to learn more from Commander Lu?" Commander Lei scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "So here I am."

With the help of three men, shucking oysters was very efficient.

Yu Yao first used an oyster knife to pick out an oyster. After prying it open, the oyster meat inside was very plump, and it had a slightly salty taste.

Only oysters living in areas with very good water quality will have a slight salty taste without any added seasoning; this is a hallmark of high-quality oysters.

She pried open another oyster and handed it to Lu Ze, saying, "The oysters here are fresh and plump, you should try them."

Lu Ze didn't take it, but looked down at her and said softly, "You feed me."

Yu Yao looked around to make sure no one was paying attention to her, then wiped her fingers with a handkerchief, picked up the oyster meat, and held it to Lu Ze's mouth.

Lu Ze ate oysters from her hand, and his soft tongue inevitably touched her fingertips as he ate.

Yu Yao felt a tingling sensation in the fingertips, which quickly spread throughout her body as if it were conducting electricity.

Her face flushed with embarrassment, and she gave him a reproachful look. "Aunt Ge and the others are still here, don't do anything rash."

Lu Ze rarely saw her shy side; her cheeks were flushed, as if she had applied rouge, making her look very pretty and cute.

Especially her peach blossom eyes, which seemed to be covered in feathers, looked at him as if the feathers were gently brushing against his heart.

It feels itchy and tingly.

Lu Zehan looked at Yu Yao with his star-like, dark, and bright eyes, and said softly, "It's delicious."

The phrase "it's delicious" is ambiguous, like a double entendre, implying something else.

Yu Yao blushed and looked around furtively, as if she were a thief, afraid of being overheard.

After noticing that Aunt Ge and the others were shucking oysters and no one was paying attention to them, she glared at him, took the oyster knife, moved away from him, and started shucking oysters.

Lu Ze stopped teasing his lover and buried himself in prying open oysters.

Yu Yao breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that he hadn't followed her, and then bent down to dig for oysters.

There are also some tips for choosing oysters. First, look at the shell. Oysters with tightly closed shells are the best. Oysters with bulging shells have plump meat, and large ones have succulent meat.

Of course, the simplest way to judge is that they don't smell bad and feel heavy in your hand; these are all good quality oysters.

There were plenty of oysters, and they were delicious, but they were quite difficult to shuck. After working for more than an hour, Yu Yao finally shucked most of the bucket of oysters, and they were all top-notch.

Yu Yao also found a large lobster in the tidal pool next to the reef.

At first, they didn't notice, since it wasn't low tide and the water in the tidal pool was very shallow, almost to the point where you could see the end of the pool. No one expected there to be a large lobster in there.

It was Yu Yao who discovered it when she went to wash her hands.

After seeing this, Aunt Ge sighed, "I knew Yu Yao was destined for wealth. I just walked across the tidal pool and didn't see it at all."

Su Meihua echoed this sentiment: "Yu Yao is a lucky girl; even those close to her benefit from her good fortune. I've never found anything good while beachcombing before, but I just found a ribbonfish."

It was originally just a joke, but what happened next made the claim seem more real.
