"Who's there?" Yu Yao called out.
The surroundings were completely silent, except for the sound of a small dog barking towards the woods.
I am in the open, the enemy is in the dark; it's not a good time to confront them.
Yu Yao was pushing her bicycle and was about to leave when a woman's voice suddenly came from behind the tree. She only managed to say "Help me" before falling silent, probably because someone had covered her mouth.
That voice... sounds familiar.
It is He Chunyun.
Although they only exchanged words for a few minutes, Yu Yao was deeply impressed by her.
This woman has a cheerful and lively personality, acts decisively, and is a very capable and resourceful woman.
However, in his early thirties, he became the purchasing manager of Hongqi Department Store, the second largest department store in Guangdong Province after Shengli Department Store.
Although they had only just met, they shared the same tenacity and had a mutual respect for each other.
Yu Yao could feel a gaze fixed on her from the shadows.
Rushing in rashly will not only fail to save anyone, but will also alert the enemy.
Yu Yao didn't stop, but chose to continue pushing her bicycle.
As He Chunyun watched Yu Yao's departing figure, she felt both disappointed and relieved.
She was reckless just now. Yu Yao is so delicate and weak; she's no match for a man at all. Coming over there would only put her in danger.
She almost got dragged into this; thankfully, she didn't come.
Yu Yao was unaware of He Chunyun's thoughts. She pushed her bicycle for a certain distance before stopping, only stopping when she felt the gaze that had been on her disappear.
A barking sound came from behind; the little dog had actually followed us.
The puppy followed her around with its big eyes wide open, wagging its tail incessantly.
Afraid that the puppy would reveal their whereabouts, Yu Yao told it not to follow her while gently saying, "Little puppy, be good. I have to go rescue someone now and can't take you with me. Stay here and don't follow me, okay?"
Whether the puppy understood her or not, it obediently stayed where it was and didn't follow.
She pushed her bicycle into the bushes and hid it, then crept towards the spot she had just been in.
After walking a distance, I looked back and saw that the little dog hadn't followed me; instead, it was squatting in front of the bicycle like a sentry.
Yu Yao breathed a sigh of relief and quickened her pace to reach the spot she had just been.
He Chunyun's hands were tied and her mouth was covered. She tried to struggle but the man held her firmly in place.
The man in front of me had a hood over his head, leaving only his eyes visible, and he was holding a knife in his hand.
Although He Chunyun was afraid, she remained calm.
Seeing that she had stopped struggling, the man warned, "Don't move, or I can't guarantee what I might do?"
He Chunyun nodded.
The man then released her mouth and pulled her toward the depths of the woods.
He Chunyun suppressed her fear and looked at him, "What do you want? I have more than ten yuan in my wallet, as well as three catties of meat coupons and grain coupons. I can give them all to you, as long as you let me go."
Upon hearing this, the man suddenly became extremely agitated. Holding a knife in one hand, he grabbed He Chunyun's collar with the other: "Money, money, money! All you care about is money! Haven't I treated you well? Why did you run away? Huh!"
He Chunyun couldn't breathe, her face turning red. "Let go, let go."
"You women are all cheap sluts, promiscuous things. You are, and so is that woman."
After venting his anger, the man sobered up a bit and smiled, "As long as you behave, I won't do anything to you. Understand?"
He Chunyun dared not refuse to nod, and was about to say something when she suddenly saw Yu Yao hiding to the side.
Yu Yao, who was hiding behind a tree, made a shushing gesture at her.
He Chunyun's face showed a moment of panic, but she quickly regained her composure and dared not say anything more, for fear that the man would discover Yu Yao.
The man turned around and pulled He Chunyun along as they continued walking.
Just as he passed the tree trunk where Yu Yao was hiding, Yu Yao suddenly darted out from behind, grabbed He Chunlan, and rolled to the side to dodge the man's swung knife.
Yu Yao released He Chunyun and kicked the man in the stomach.
The man was kicked away, but he charged forward again with the knife in hand.
Yu Yao and the man started fighting. Seeing that he couldn't defeat Yu Yao, the man turned his attention to He Chunyun, who was standing to the side, and rushed towards her.
"Watch out!" Yu Yao grabbed the man's collar and pulled him and the knife backward.
During the struggle, the knife fell to the ground. He Chunyun rushed over, picked it up, and forcefully cut the rope on her injured body.
Seeing that he couldn't deal with Yu Yao or catch He Chunyun, the man grabbed a handful of dirt from the ground and threw it at Yu Yao before turning and fleeing into the woods.
The other party knew the forest very well, and Yu Yao lost track of them after chasing for only a short distance, so she had to return to where she started.
The ropes binding He Chunyun had already been untied. Seeing Yu Yao rushing up, she asked, "Are you alright?"
Yu Yao shook her head. "I'm fine, it's just that the person ran away."
"Thanks to you today, Comrade Yu, thank you so much." He Chunyun expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Yu Yao. "This person has something wrong with his head. I almost got strangled to death by him just now."
Thinking back to the scene where she was grabbed by the collar and couldn't breathe, He Chunyun felt a wave of fear.
Yu Yao asked, "How did Manager He end up running into him?"
"After leaving the food factory today, I was supposed to go back to Guangdong Province, but something came up and I needed to go home. My hometown is on an island. I was passing through this grove when this guy hit me on the head with a stick..."
Judging from He Chunyun's words, this person doesn't seem like someone seeking revenge; he's more likely someone who hates women and is attacking them indiscriminately.
Moreover, the other party seemed very familiar with the woods, suggesting they were likely from nearby.
