As the Lunar New Year approached, Yu Yao had fewer things to do.
The work in the sugar water workshop has been gradually handed over to others, and her daily task from now on is to learn and study the imported machines on the production line.
After the New Year, Director Li will arrange for an experienced elderly person to take care of her.
Because of the translation issues, Yu Yao went to see Director Li after arriving at the factory and explained some of the translation errors to him.
“There’s a military spouse in the unit who speaks German, so I asked her for help. It might take some time.”
Director Li was surprised, "I didn't expect you to know such a talented person. That's great! To be honest, the translator we hired mainly translated other things and didn't know much about the machine-related content."
"Since your friend has done such a big favor for the factory, we can't let her work for nothing. Go to the logistics department after work, and I'll help her apply for some benefits and subsidies."
Yu Yao was surprised by this unexpected joy and said with a smile, "Then I will thank Director Li on behalf of my friend."
Director Li waved his hand, "We should be thanking your friend."
After leaving Director Li's office, Yu Yao went back to her seat to pack her things, as she would be moving to the new production line starting tomorrow.
The new production line isn't far away, right next to the fruit canning workshop. The foreman has a small room as his office so he can easily check on the production line at any time.
After Yu Yao moved all her things over, it wasn't long before she got off work.
Knowing that Yin Susu would be coming today, she went to the logistics department first to collect her allowance and benefits, so that she wouldn't miss them when the logistics staff left work.
Upon arriving at the logistics department, Yu Yao cut to the chase: "Comrade, hello, I am..."
Before she could finish speaking, the woman from the logistics department recognized her and said with a smile, "You're Yu Yao, I know you. You're a big star in our factory now. I'm Xiao Qiao from the logistics department, are you here to pick up what Director Li asked for?"
Yu Yao smiled and nodded, "Yes, Xiao Qiao."
"Comrade Yu, please wait a moment. The things are ready. I'll go get them right away."
"Okay, thank you for your help, Comrade Xiao Qiao."
Xiao Qiao turned and went into the house, and soon came out with her things.
Director Li helped apply for quite a few things, including canned goods and brown sugar produced by Haixing Food Factory itself, as well as three jin of meat coupons.
These items are not expensive, but they are daily necessities for ordinary families.
After getting the things, Yu Yao hurried off work. The colleague in charge of the New Year's Eve dinner was coming to her house for a meeting to discuss the arrangements.
As the person in charge, she can't be late.
On her way back, she ran into colleagues from other workshops, who all greeted her with smiles. Now she's become a celebrity in the factory.
Besides the previous canned food competition, there was also the reason why Lu Ze came to pick her up.
"Comrade Yu, Commander Lu is here to pick you up from get off work again. Your Commander Lu is truly unwavering; there aren't many good men like him anymore."
"Exactly, my husband only drove me for a little over a week before he got tired of it. Unlike Commander Lu, who picks me up and drops me off morning and night, rain or shine."
Yu Yao greeted everyone with a smile as she jogged toward the factory gate.
Upon arriving at the entrance, Lu Ze, who stood out from the crowd, was immediately spotted.
"Lu Ze, why are you here so early today? Have you been waiting for a long time?" Yu Yao handed Lu Ze her military satchel.
Lu Ze put it in the bicycle basket and wiped the dirt off her face from cleaning the office. "The division commander knew you had a meeting today, so he specially asked me to leave work early to pick you up. How was work today? Are you tired?"
Yu Yao shook her head. "I'm not tired. Today, besides handing over my work, I just cleaned the office."
Lu Ze sat on the bicycle, his long legs braced on the ground. "Are you settled?"
Yu Yao shifted her hips and wrapped her arms around Lu Ze's waist. "Alright, we can go now."
On the way back, the two shared their day, and a warm atmosphere filled their space.
As I rode my bicycle into the military compound, I could see from afar that Sister Meihua's house next door was already full of people. Leading the group was Zhu Dan, the women's director, and the rest were either people I knew or people I didn't know; they were all military dependents who had come to help with the New Year's Eve dinner.
Su Meihua, with her sharp eyes, was the first to spot Yu Yao and exclaimed happily, "Sister Dan, Yu Yao is back!"
Upon hearing this, everyone else turned to look at the road leading to the compound.
Yu Yao peeked out from behind Lu Ze and waved to everyone. When they arrived at the door, before the bicycle had even come to a complete stop, Yu Yao couldn't wait to jump off.
"Sorry to keep you all waiting, please come into the courtyard."
"It's alright, we just arrived too," Sister Dan said with a smile.
A young woman in the crowd pursed her lips and muttered, "What do you mean 'just arrived'? We've been waiting for over half an hour."
“Zheng Mei, Comrade Yu came back as soon as she got off work, without any delay. We are the ones who arrived too early.” After saying that, the woman looked at Yu Yao with a hint of apology. “Comrade Yu, I’m sorry. This is my niece. She doesn’t know the situation. Please don’t mind.”
Yu Yao glanced at Zheng Mei: "It's alright, everyone please come in."
The other sisters-in-law all smiled and nodded, following Yu Yao into the courtyard.
As soon as Sixteen saw Yu Yao return, it wagged its tail and came over. When it saw a stranger, it barked twice.
Yu Yao, worried that everyone might be scared, explained, "Don't be afraid, everyone. Sixteen doesn't bite. Sixteen, be good and don't scare people."
Sixteen wagged its tail and obediently followed Yu Yao without making a sound.
Seeing the smooth, shiny skin of Sixteen, Zhu Dan smiled and said, "Is this the dog you rescued after it was abused? It's so cute."
Zheng Mei was startled by Shi Liu just now, and her heart was still unsettled. When she heard Zhu Dan praise Shi Liu for being cute, she rolled her eyes.
