When the others heard Zheng Mei's question, they looked at Yu Yao with anticipation.
Yu Yao glanced at Zheng Mei and saw that Sister Dan and the others were looking at her. She smiled and said, "I've never hosted a New Year's Eve dinner for so many people before, so I made the plan according to my own understanding. It may not be perfect. Please help me point out any oversights."
Before anyone else could say anything, Zheng Mei said, "It's okay, just tell us, and we'll all take a look. If it really doesn't work, we can find someone else now. Don't be embarrassed."
These words, seemingly for Yu Yao's sake, were actually laced with veiled barbs.
Zheng Mei's aunt smiled awkwardly and tried to smooth things over: "Comrade Yu is really amazing. He has planned the New Year's Eve dinner for so many people so quickly. If it were me, I would be completely at a loss and wouldn't know where to start."
Some of the older women had their own thoughts as soon as they heard Zheng Mei say that.
When Sister Dan was looking for someone to be in charge of the New Year's Eve dinner, they all thought there were too many people and were afraid that the food would be bad and they would be left out, so they all passed it on like a hot potato.
Later, upon hearing that the quartermaster and the cooks were coming to help, he regretted not accepting the offer, thus letting Yu Yao get the benefit.
I heard that there are many benefits to being in charge of this year's New Year's Eve dinner.
Seeing an opportunity, everyone rushed to offer their help.
“You’re a young woman with little experience, so it’s normal that you can’t do it well. If you feel too much pressure and can’t do it well, you can leave it to us.”
“Sister Liu is right. I used to run outdoor banquets in my hometown in the countryside. Although I have never run a banquet for more than a thousand people, I still have experience with five hundred people. If all else fails, I am willing to serve the organization.”
"I'm willing too."
Zheng Mei wanted to say something more, but her aunt pinched her, and she swallowed back the words she was about to say.
Zhu Dan glanced at Zheng Mei, a hint of dissatisfaction flashing in her eyes, but she didn't show it on her face. She smiled and looked at Yu Yao encouragingly:
"Yu Yao, you don't need to feel pressured. We came here to discuss this in the hope of gathering the strength of the masses to do our best. Since I asked you to take charge, it's because I believe in your abilities. You don't need to feel pressured; feel free to bring up any ideas you have."
Sun Yu and Su Meihua both looked down on the aunties who were now vying for power, and spoke up for Yu Yao.
"I have faith in Yu Yao's abilities. You take charge and I'll fully cooperate. There definitely won't be any problems."
Su Meihua glanced at the women and said, "Sister-in-law Sun Yu is right. Sister Yu Yao, you are too modest. I have read your plan, and I do not believe that anyone can be more thoughtful than you. I wholeheartedly support you taking charge of this position."
The other aunties had no objection to Yu Yao being in charge; on the contrary, they were full of anticipation. "That's right, Yu Yao, you don't know yet, do you? This year, the soldiers who stayed on the island were so happy when they heard that you were in charge of the New Year's Eve dinner. Some of them started looking forward to it as soon as they heard the news. Others don't get this treatment."
There was a lot of support and belief in Yu Yao, which made the aunties who came out to compete for her seem a bit embarrassed.
The group looked embarrassed. "We're only doing this for the good of the New Year's Eve dinner, not against Yu Yao. Since everyone agrees with Yu Yao, we have no objections."
"Since no one has any objections, let's have Yu Yao tell us her plan. It will definitely surprise you. I can't wait to see this year's New Year's Eve dinner. As long as we follow Yu Yao's plan, believe me, it will be a pleasant surprise."
When Su Meihua said this, there was a hint of pride in her eyes.
Hearing her say this, all the sisters-in-law were filled with anticipation. "Yu Yao, tell us your plan!"
Yu Yao nodded, "Please wait a moment, everyone. I'll go inside to get my notes."
As soon as she left, Zhu Dan's face turned cold, and she said meaningfully, "When I wanted to find someone to take charge of the New Year's Eve dinner, everyone thought they couldn't do it well and didn't dare to take the job, but only Comrade Yu Yao was willing to help. What does that mean?"
She glanced at Zheng Mei and continued:
"This shows that he is a responsible comrade with a strong sense of collective honor. We should encourage and support such good comrades, instead of belittling and doubting them for our own selfish reasons. I hope everyone can focus their efforts on the right path and avoid doing anything unnecessary."
Zhu Dan's words were a bit harsh; she didn't give Zheng Mei or those other military wives with ulterior motives any face at all.
Zheng Mei was shocked that the women's director would reprimand her like that, and her face turned pale.
The women were as quiet as quails, not daring to utter a sound.
After Yu Yao took out her notebook, she noticed that the atmosphere in the courtyard was a bit strange.
Especially Zheng Mei and those aunties who jumped out earlier were unusually quiet.
A thought flashed through her mind, and she roughly guessed what had happened after she entered the house.
Seeing the notes in her hand, Zhu Dan smiled and said, "Comrade Yu, why don't you tell everyone about your plan?"
Yu Yao nodded, opened her notebook, and first shared her thoughts.
"Considering the large number of people attending the New Year's Eve dinner, I divided the arrangements for this New Year's Eve dinner into four parts: planning and preparation, purchasing and preparation, cooking and service, and post-event cleanup and summary. I further divided each part into three to four steps."
Upon hearing this, Zheng Mei couldn't help but frown and object, "Yu Yao, aren't you making things too complicated? Why go through all this trouble?"
Su Meihua was annoyed by her interruption and retorted, "Let Yu Yao finish speaking first. You've never managed a New Year's Eve dinner for so many people before, how would you know the details?"
Zheng Mei's aunt pulled Zheng Mei back, "Shut up first, let Comrade Yu Yao finish speaking. Don't be so rude. Comrade Yu Yao, please continue."
