She was careless.
She kept her transmigration into the book a secret very well, and would never do anything that might reveal it.
For so long, no one has doubted that she is not the original owner.
Perhaps she had been too comfortable for too long and lowered her guard, or perhaps she was too concerned and made a mistake.
Transmigrating into a book is her biggest secret. Can she really tell Lu Ze everything without reservation?
She loves Lu Ze, that's true, but being cute and whether or not to tell him all your secrets are two different things.
Even if I tell him, will Lu Ze believe me?
Tell Lu Ze that this world is actually a novel, and all of them are just tools created by the author. Is the land they protect, the people they love, and all the pain, joy, sorrow, or happiness they experience all fictionalized by the author against the backdrop of the times?
Such an absurd thing, she herself wouldn't believe it if she hadn't experienced it firsthand.
Would a staunch revolutionary like Lu Ze believe that? Would he think it was just an excuse she was making up?
Yu Yao didn't know.
She hesitated, pondering whether there was a better solution.
Lu Ze watched her lower her head and remain silent, her eyes gradually darkening. He wanted to ask her something when he heard footsteps outside.
Then, Commander Lei rushed in, looking very happy. Sensing that something was wrong in the room, he paused for a moment and asked, "You... had a fight?"
Lu Ze looked away from Commander Lei and said, "You've mistaken me for someone else."
Commander Lei glanced at Lu Ze, who was bowing his head and remaining silent, then looked at Lu Ze's stern face, and smoothed his hair.
Did you really not argue? It doesn't look like it.
Lu Ze clearly didn't want to continue this topic and asked, "What do you want?"
"Oh, I almost forgot the important matter." Commander Lei laughed heartily: "Old Lu, that kid Song Yiming is not dead."
Lu Ze glanced at Yu Yao and continued, "What exactly happened?"
"That's right. After Song Yiming lured the remaining enemies into the trap, he jumped off the cliff into the sea to escape. He hit his head when he jumped and got stuck between the rocks behind the cliff, so he didn't see our rescue boat."
When he woke up, he was already at sea. Luckily, the spot where he jumped landed happened to be a rotten wooden bed, and he clung to that piece of wood for several days before being rescued by a fishing company.
What Lao Lei said was almost identical to what Yu Yao said, and the more this was the case, the more complicated Lu Ze's feelings became.
As for Lu Ze himself, he believed that his lover would not harm the island or the army.
As a soldier, he had to be responsible for the entire island unit and treat any suspicious individuals who might pose a threat to the unit or the organization with the same ruthlessness as autumn leaves swept away by the wind.
"By the way, Lu Ze, the division commander wants us to go over there; there's a meeting coming up soon."
Lu Ze glanced at Yu Yao and said to Commander Lei, "Old Lei, go outside and wait for me for a minute."
Commander Lei glanced at Yu Yao and nodded knowingly. "I'll go out first."
As soon as he left, the main room fell into an eerie silence once again.
Lu Ze looked at Yu Yao with anticipation in his eyes: "Yao, tell me what secrets you have? I am your husband, and we can face any problems together."
If there is really a problem with Ayao, he will do everything he can to protect her, even if it means taking off his military uniform.
Yu Yao looked up into his dark eyes, a bitter smile on her face. "What happened to me is too unbelievable. You wouldn't believe me even if I told you. I can only say that I do have a secret, but this secret poses no threat to the organization, the military, or the Lu family."
Lu Ze took a deep breath, not wanting to be too serious and scare her. "Ayao, Lu Ze can trust you completely. But as a soldier, I must get to the bottom of things and nip any potential danger in the bud."
Yu Yao bit her lip and looked up at Lu Ze. "Lu Ze, can I trust you?"
Lu Ze stared intently at his lover, noticing the lingering worry, anxiety, and hidden fear in her eyes. The iron wall he had erected in his heart to distance himself from suspicious individuals crumbled instantly.
He said in a low voice, "Ayao, you can trust me. Whatever it is, I will stand with you."
Even if it costs them their lives, they are willing to pay the price.
Whatever happened to his Ayao, it must have been out of necessity, something she had no choice but to do.
He met her too late.
“Okay, I can tell you.” Yu Yao made up her mind.
Lu Ze breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed his clenched fist. "Ayao, I'm going to a meeting now. Tell me your answer when I get back."
Since she's decided to tell the truth, there's no difference for her whether she tells it now or tonight.
Lu Ze left the main room and departed with Commander Lei.
Yu Yao stood there for a long time, watching his departing figure.
Lu Ze, would you believe that?
If you don't believe me, what will happen to us after this?
Yu Yao wasn't afraid of military investigations; aside from this incident, she hadn't revealed any clues. If there had been any problems, she wouldn't have passed the initial political background check.
As for the matter of transmigrating into a book, it was impossible to investigate, and nothing could be found out.
She had considered making up an excuse to fob off Lu Ze, but that wouldn't work at all.
Lu Zeneng has escaped death countless times and wiped out and captured so many enemy agents; he is not someone who can be easily fooled.
Any lie will only make things worse.
Rather than doing that, it's better to be honest and straightforward; whether Lu Ze believes it or not is his business.
As for whether this incident will ultimately become a rift between the two, causing them to drift apart, Yu Yao will not speculate.
