This is similar to digging a pond in the countryside; unless you need to replace the fishpond, you won't drain the pond to catch fish.
Seeing that they didn't object, Yu Yao continued:
"There are three principles to follow when harvesting bird's nests: we don't harvest bird's nests with eggs, we don't harvest bird's nests with baby birds, and we don't accept bird's nests where swallows have lived. We only harvest abandoned bird's nests. If we harvest bird's nests that haven't been abandoned, the swallows won't come back to build their nests."
"Then what kind of bird's nest is considered to be abandoned?" Su Meihua asked.
Yu Yao: "The swiftlets only use it when raising their young. The adult swiftlets don't sleep in it. We can determine whether the bird's nest has been abandoned by following the three no's principle."
There are some precautions to take when harvesting bird's nests. Yu Yao told her everything she could remember, and the rest she had to figure out on her own.
Fortunately, Lu Ze filled in the gaps and made up for any mistakes. Apart from breaking some bird's nests at the beginning due to unfamiliarity with the process, there were no major problems during the bird's nest harvesting.
The cave was full of bird's nests. After excluding the three "no" principles, there were still several thousand left.

From morning to afternoon, the four of them kept collecting food, and Yu Yao even made do with the dry rations she brought for lunch.
This is all money, and although it's hard work, everyone is full of enthusiasm.
Yu Yao wiped the sweat from her forehead, glanced at her watch, and said, "It's almost time. The swallows should be returning to their nests. Let's stop here for today and carry all the bird's nests back with us."
Everyone else agreed.
Lu Ze and Commander Lei hid the tools for harvesting bird's nests in the cave so that it would be more convenient for them to come back next time.
On the way back, they didn't encounter many people, and their baskets weren't full. Yu Yao and Su Meihua even took the two of them to the Kapok Valley.
As the sun was about to set, the four of them began their journey home.
Yu Yao's home.
Yu Yao cleaned up both square tables in the house and asked Lu Ze and the others to take out the bird's nests they had picked and put them on the tables.
After a long day, it's time to take stock of your spoils.
