Yu Yao finally found the puddle from which the sound had come, and her eyes lit up with joy as she looked over.
It's a tiger grouper, and it's even bigger than the grouper she saw the first time she went beachcombing. I estimate it weighs at least three pounds.
The tiger grouper was in a pool between several rocks, with very little seawater. The tiger grouper was half in the air and half in the water.
No wonder the water was so loud; if we had come a few minutes later, this tiger grouper would definitely be dead.
Yu Yao looked around and found a small pit with seawater. She put the mantis shrimp and rock crab in it, then took a clean wooden bucket to the nearby tidal pool and scooped out half a bucket of seawater, putting the tiger grouper in.
As soon as the tiger grouper entered the bucket, it started swimming. It swam around in the bucket several times before slowly sinking to the bottom.
Yu Yao was relieved to see the tiger-spotted tiger jumping around so energetically.
Then put the mantis shrimp and other crabs back into the bucket.
These seafood items are too cramped in one barrel, which will affect the survival of the grouper; they must be separated as soon as possible.
Yu Yao decided to stop searching and carried the bucket back home.
I had only taken a couple of steps when I heard a deafening scream.
"Snake! Sea snake! Ahhh..."
Then came a cacophony of sounds: chickens running wild, dogs barking, screams, the thud of wooden barrels hitting rocks, and people stumbling and falling as they ran. These sounds echoed throughout the cave.
They were shouting really loudly.
Yu Yao picked at her ear, then picked up the plastic bucket and walked out of the cave.
Upon exiting the cave, they encountered Qin Lamei and her two companions, who were still in shock.
The three of them were in a sorry state; their shirts and pants were covered in mud and moss, their hair was wet, and their hands were scraped.
Qin Lamei was pale and her legs were weak. She could only stand up by holding onto the rocks.
Wu Huaiqing and his group heard screams from other caves and, not knowing what had happened, ran towards this place with worried expressions.
He bumped into Yu Yao, who was coming out.
Wu Wanying looked Yu Yao up and down and, finding that she was not injured, relaxed her furrowed brows. "Zhizhi, what happened? I just heard someone scream."
"I'm fine, they're the ones who are in trouble." Yu Yao gestured with her chin toward Qin Lamei and the other two.
Su Meihua and the others then noticed Qin Lamei and the other two standing by the rocks.
Although they didn't know each other, they were all from the same residential compound. Just as Wu Wanying and Su Meihua were about to go over to ask if they needed any help, Qin Lamei had already come to her senses.
Naturally, he also saw Yu Yao.
She rushed up to Yu Yao in three quick steps, pointed at her nose, and said in an unfriendly tone, "Yu Yao, did you already know there was a sea snake under the rock and deliberately not tell us, wanting to see us make a fool of ourselves!"
Yu Yao frowned and slapped her fingers away. "I remember you said when you were telling me to leave that you were the one who saw the thing under the rock first. I didn't see it, so how would I know there was a sea snake underneath?"
Wu Huaiqing looked at Qin Lamei and then at Yu Yao, "Sister, what happened?"
Yu Yao then briefly recounted what had just happened.
Upon hearing that Qin Lamei was chasing Yu Yao, the group frowned. But when they heard that Qin Lamei had failed to seize the seafood and was instead terrified by a sea snake, they couldn't hide their relief.
Grandma Miao spoke first: "I think I understand now, comrades. It's clearly your own bad luck to encounter the sea snake. What does it have to do with Xiao Yu? How can you blame him? I've lived for so long, and this is the first time I've seen someone more shameless than me."
Wu Wanying and Su Meihua also spoke up for Yu Yao.
“Comrade, we sympathize with you for encountering the sea snake, but you can’t blame Yu Yao for this.”
Qin Lamei couldn't refute it, but her intuition told her that Yu Yao knew.
"Yu Yao, don't try to fool me. You must have seen that there were no electric eels down there, only sea snakes, that's why you didn't want them. Right?"
"If that's what you think, there's nothing I can do. You can say whatever you want, and whatever you feel is right, okay?"
Yu Yao ignored her and beckoned Wu Huaiqing and the others to leave.
Qin Lamei stopped her, "Yu Yao, you're not leaving. You have to give us an explanation today!"
"Explain?" Yu Yao scoffed. "Qin Lamei, are you out of your mind? It wasn't me who bit you. Whoever bit you should be held accountable. That sea snake shouldn't be far away. Go find it now and demand an explanation. You might still make it in time."
Wu Huaiqing and Wu Wanying stood beside Yu Yao, protecting her.
Su Meihua and the others stood firmly beside Yu Yao, looking at Qin Lamei.
Qin Lamei felt that Yu Yao knew, but she had no evidence and couldn't reason with Yu Yao, so she could only suffer in silence.
The three were so frightened by the accident that they lost all interest in beachcombing and left with their belongings.
Su Meihua watched Qin Lamei's retreating figure and spat, "Pah, what kind of person is she? She's shameless enough. Yu Yao, don't mind her. This kind of person can't stand seeing others do better than her. Don't let her behavior spoil your mood."
Yu Yao smiled and said, "I won't. By the way, I just found a tiger grouper, I need to pack it separately."
“Use my bucket. It’s deep enough to hold tiger grouper,” Wu Huaiqing said.
Yu Yao nodded and put all the seafood from Wu Huaiqing's bucket into her own bucket. After Wu Huaiqing brought back seawater, she took out the tiger grouper and put it in.
Su Meihua said with envy, "Yu Yao, your luck is unbelievable. It hasn't been long and you've already found such a big tiger grouper."
Although tiger grouper is not as valuable as rat grouper, such a large tiger grouper would not be cheap if sold to a recycling station.
Although Su Meihua said that, she still had a good harvest, especially finding a nest of blood clams, which were quite large and weighed about a pound in total.
