Chapter 36 Cause and Effect, Retribution is Inevitable

Han Fenglan trembled instinctively when she heard Yu Yao speak.

For some reason, she felt a little intimidated as soon as the girl opened her mouth.

In the past, Yu Yao would never fight back or talk back when hit or cursed. Whenever she was unhappy, she would take it out on her, and this girl wouldn't dare to utter a sound.

These past few days, that brat seems like a completely different person; she's actually a little afraid of her.

Lei Gong'an was delighted. "Comrade Yu, can you really provide evidence?"

Yu Yao nodded and looked at Han Fenglan: "If you don't want anyone to know, then don't do it in the first place. Besides meeting and talking on the phone, you and Li Weibing also exchanged letters and packages. As long as we find evidence of your contact, we can prove it."

In the original owner's memories, every one or two months, a postman would deliver letters and packages to Han Fenglan.

Han Fenglan never asked anyone else to do these things; she would take them back to her and Yu Defu's room to unpack them. Whenever Yu Defu asked, she would say they were sent from her hometown.

Yu Yao remembered that this historical novel mentioned that Han Fenglan had no relatives in her hometown.

Furthermore, every time Han Fenglan received something, she would go out, and every time she came back, she would buy delicious food for Yu Tianbao and Yu Honglan.

The person who sent the letter and the package was very likely Li Weibing, who was on the run.

Upon hearing the letter, Han Fenglan panicked.

“Yu Yao, I don’t understand what you’re saying. After the divorce, I haven’t seen Li Weibing at all, let alone had any contact with him.”

Han Fenglan suppressed her fear and pretended to be calm: "Officer, don't believe what she said. Those letters were sent by my relatives back home."

Yu Yao clicked her tongue twice. "I didn't say which letters, how did you know I was talking about letters from your hometown? Aren't you just admitting it?"

Han Fenglan's expression changed, and she forced a smile to explain, "Well... no one else sent me letters, only those from my hometown."

She was a country woman who hadn't received much formal education and had just finished literacy training; she was a little clever, but not much.

She can play the victim on ordinary days, but when it comes to a real battle of mentality, she can't compare to Yu Yao, the humble office worker who is bossed around and has to smile on the surface while cursing inwardly countless times.

Yu Honglan was closest to Han Fenglan and saw the evasive look in her eyes, which made her heart skip a beat.

Mom wouldn't really keep the letters she uses to contact Dad, would she?

Police Officer Lei was more concerned about the evidence. "Comrade Yu, where is the evidence?"

"The evidence is in my hands."

Based on Yu Yao's understanding of Han Fenglan.

Han Fenglan is a little clever, but not much, and also a bit love-struck. Those letters recorded her sweet words with Li Weibing, so she definitely wouldn't want to destroy them and must still have kept them.

Yu Yao's mind flashed through the layout of Han Fenglan and Yu Defu's room, and the last place where things were probably hidden was Han Fenglan's bedside table.

Whether it's right or wrong, you'll find out by trying it.

Yu Yao touched her pocket; there was still a sheet of paper left from the thank-you letter she wrote last time.

This will come in handy.

She took out a folded white letter and started spouting nonsense without batting an eye.

"This is the evidence of your contact with Li Weibing."

Yu Yao held up the letter, staring at Han Fenglan with a sharp look in her eyes: "You still dare to say that you didn't harbor Li Weibing? It's written clearly in the letter that you planned to contact Mei Laosan and have these human traffickers drug me and sell me to a mountain valley to give birth during the Ghost Festival so that Yu Honglan could marry in my place."

"No, you're talking nonsense." Han Fenglan stepped back, denying it verbally, but she was already scared inside.

How could Yu Yao know Mei Laosan? Even Yu Honglan didn't know this name.

"Comrade Yu, could you please give me the letter?" Lei Gong'an suggested.

Yu Yao handed the letter to Lei Gong'an.

When Lei Gong'an opened it, he was completely dumbfounded.

There wasn't a single word on the letter.

He looked up at Yu Yao, his eyes questioning whether she had taken the wrong one.

“Officer Lei, this letter is from Li Weibing to Han Fenglan.”

Yu Yao specifically emphasized the word "that is".

While everyone's attention was on the letter, he winked at Lei Gong'an, signaling him not to expose it.

Although Lei Gong'an didn't know what Yu Yao was up to, he still chose to believe her.

Seeing everyone's gaze turn towards him, he cleared his throat and gave a mumbled "hmm."

Yu Yao approached step by step, leaned close to Han Fenglan's ear, and spoke Han Fenglan's crimes in a voice that only the two of them could hear.

Some of these charges are from the original owner's memories, while others are mentioned in the book.

Each and every one of these things was done by Han Fenglan.

If there is evidence, Han Fenglan could spend the rest of her life in jail.

Han Fenglan couldn't believe her ears.

How could Yu Yao possibly know these things?

How could she know?

Once the psychological defenses collapse, the entire force will crumble.

Yu Yao smiled and said, "Are you wondering how I would know all this?"

"You..." Han Fenglan was speechless, her eyes filled with fear as she looked at Yu Yao.

Yu Yao leaned close to her ear and whispered, "If you don't want anyone to know, then don't do it in the first place. You don't think that no one will know just because you hid the letter and the things in the bedside table, do you?"

Han Fenglan froze.

Yu Yao chuckled, "You really did hide it in the bedside table."

She turned to Officer Lei and said, "Officer Lei, Han Fenglan has admitted that the letters she used to contact Li Weibing were hidden in her bedside table."

Only then did Lei Gong'an realize Yu Yao's intention. His face lit up with joy, and he called to the other police officers who had come with him to immediately go to the Yu family home to find Han Fenglan's bedside table.

Upon hearing this, Han Fenglan understood everything. She suddenly looked up, her eyes filled with venom.

"You bitch, you tricked me?"

Yu Yao shrugged: "As the saying goes, all's fair in war. Being brainless can be deadly."
