"It really is a pearl. An oyster pearl."
Yu Yao only learned after arriving at the island that any shellfish, given enough time, could potentially grow pearls.
Oysters are a type of shellfish, so of course they can contain pearls; I just didn't expect to find them here.
Upon closer reflection, it seems quite reasonable.
These oysters have been growing for so many years, it's not surprising that they grow a few pearls.
Sun Yu and Su Meihua, who were standing nearby, looked over in surprise when they heard the word "pearl".
"Is it really a pearl?!"
"My God! What did I tell you? Yu Yao, you're truly God's favorite daughter! You actually found a pearl in an oyster!" Su Meihua exclaimed, looking at Yu Yao as if she had seen the God of Wealth.
Oyster pearls are milky white, similar in color to oysters.
The pearl that Yu Yao found wasn't small; it was about the size of a little finger, round and plump, with a beautiful luster.
Knowing that there were pearls in the old oysters, the three of them were very excited and pried the oysters off much faster, finding another pearl inside one of the old oysters.
It was opened by Sister-in-law Sun Yu. It was also milky white, a little bigger than Yu Yao's, but not as round.
Although a frugal lifestyle is popular nowadays, things like pearls can be used as medicine even if they are not made into jewelry.
State-run pharmacies and purchasing stations both accept them.
Sun Yu's face lit up with a smile as she looked at Pearl.
“Sister-in-law Sun Yu, yours is even bigger than Yu Yao’s,” Su Meihua said with a hint of envy, rubbing her hands excitedly. “There must be pearls in those old oysters. I can’t take a break.”
Sun Yu doesn't plan to rest either.
"You guys go first, I'll wait a bit longer."
Although Sun Yu and Su Meihua did not know that Yu Yao was pregnant, they knew that she had resigned due to poor health, so neither of them insisted.
Yu Yao picked a leaf and fanned herself while watching the two of them shucking oysters, and she was quite happy.
"A-Yao." A familiar voice came from behind.
Yu Yao turned around, her eyebrows curving into a smile: "Why did you come over? Is the inspection over?"
"You've inspected everything, have some honey water." Lu Ze handed over the military water bottle.
Yu Yao was indeed a bit thirsty. When she got off the boat, she only took the bucket and forgot to take the water bottle.
After finishing her water, she held out her fist to Lu Ze. "Guess what I have in my hand?"
Lu Ze couldn't guess, "What is it?"
Yu Yao opened her arms. "Ta-da! Pearls, oyster pearls! The oysters here have been growing for so long that both my sister-in-law Sun Yu and I shucked one and got a pearl. Aren't they beautiful?"
She proudly showed off to Lu Ze.
"nice!"
Lu Ze rubbed his lover's head. "Ayao is really amazing. Give me the oyster knife, I'll pry it open for the rest of the time."
Yu Yao nodded twice and instructed, "Pearls are rare and hard to come by, just pry off a few, and use the rest of the time to pry off more oyster meat."
With Lu Ze in charge, Yu Yao can just lie back and relax.
Time flies when you're busy.
Before leaving the island, Yu Yao and her friends filled their buckets with oyster meat and also put a few pearls in their pockets.
The plum blossoms didn't bloom at first, but they caught up and ended up blooming the most, with a total of five.
Yu Yao and Sun Yu each opened four pills.
The store is really open today!
Upon reaching the wooden boat, a soldier's family member saw the three men's buckets and exclaimed enviously, "These oysters are plump and delicious. They look really good!"
Some military dependents looked regretful and said with a sour tone, "You guys are going to get rich! You actually plucked so many oysters. They're definitely not worth much money if you sell them to the purchasing station. I should have plucked oysters too."
Zhou Hong, who was standing to the side, couldn't stand it anymore and said with her chin raised, "What's a little bit of oysters? Sister Qin opened a pearl from a shell."
The others stared wide-eyed.
"What? Pearls?"
"Comrade Qin, did you really find a pearl inside a seashell?"
Qin Lamei's face was full of pride, and she even glanced at Yu Yao, saying, "I'm just lucky."
As she spoke, she took a white pearl out of her pocket.
Everyone else crowded over to take a look.
"It really is a pearl, and it looks quite nice. I remember that a pearl this big could sell for five yuan in a state-run pharmacy."
"Can I touch it? I've never touched a pearl before in my life."
Qin Lamei was reluctant, but since she had targeted Yu Yao this time, everyone had reservations about her, so she didn't dare to refuse directly. She could only say, "You can touch it, but be careful not to knock it off."
Zhou Hong felt proud, saying, "Sister-in-law Qin is just lucky. Not everyone has this kind of luck; it's all fate. No matter how capable someone is, if they have bad luck, it's useless."
Su Meihua also leaned over to take a look, and the moment she saw the pearl clearly, she curled her lip, "It's not even as big as a little finger, and you call it a pearl?"
Zhou Hong sneered: "Su Meihua, you're just being sour. You don't have a pearl, no matter how small it is. You'd never have that kind of luck, no matter how hard you try."
"It's just pearls? You think you're destined for that? Open your eyes and see clearly what this is in my hand."
Su Meihua raised her chin and opened her palm.
A military family member shouted, "Su Meihua also has pearls, five of them!"
Zhou Hong stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
Su Meihua said proudly, "Not only did I have five, but Sister Yu Yao and Sister-in-law Sun Yu each opened four. Unlike some people, who really don't have that kind of luck."
Everyone else was incredibly envious and asked Su Meihua, "Where did you get so many pearls?"
Su Meihua briefly recounted how they found pearls while shucking oysters, and concluded by saying, "It's all thanks to my sister Yu Yao; she's a lucky star, and we've all benefited from it."
