After Zhou Hong finished speaking, she raised her chin, waiting for everyone to surround her and ask her questions.
Unfortunately, she was disappointed. The people present looked at each other, their gazes towards Zhou Hong a mixture of amusement, contempt, and speechlessness.
The scene was eerily quiet.
Zhou Hong sensed something was wrong. "Why are you looking at us like that? You don't think I'm lying, do you?"
She grew anxious. "That person really is a distant relative of mine. You can ask Comrade Qin and Comrade Wang if you don't believe me. They were with me. Sister-in-law Qin, Wang Xiu, isn't that right?"
Since no one can verify it anyway, if she says so, then it is.
Qin Lamei and Wang Xiu exchanged a glance, their faces stiff.
Zhou Hong winked at the two of them, then looked at Qin Lamei expectantly, "Sister-in-law Qin?"
Qin Lamei nodded with her eyes closed, considering that Zhou Hong was on her side. "That's how it is."
One of the military dependents couldn't help but ask, "Sister Qin, didn't you come out to watch the sea fishing yesterday afternoon?"
Qin Lamei was puzzled as to why she asked that. "Yesterday afternoon the sun was strong, so we all stayed in our rooms to rest. We didn't come out."
Upon hearing this, everyone finally understood.
have to!
It turns out that none of the three of them saw Yu Yao fishing for red snapper.
Given the three of them's popularity, it's unlikely anyone would bother to tell them that Yu Yao had caught a good catch.
Zhou Hong, beaming with pride, turned to look at everyone. "Now you all believe me, right? As a native islander, I've never seen anyone catch such a heavy fish before."
"You wouldn't believe it, my relative was incredibly enthusiastic. I only intended to look at it, but he insisted I touch it. You've never touched a fish weighing over 100 pounds, you wouldn't know, the feel of it is incomparable to any other fish..."
Zhou Hong was talking at length about her distant relative.
Not a single person present warned her; they were all waiting to see her make a fool of herself, which shows how unpopular she was.
Yu Yao, Su Meihua, and Sun Yu entered the cabin, only to find themselves listening to such a fascinating display of bravado.
It's truly breathtaking.
Unfortunately, some people were unaware that they had been exposed, and when they saw Yu Yao come in, they deliberately called on her.
"Comrade Yu, my relative who caught a red snapper weighing over 100 pounds used an imported fishing rod. You also use an imported fishing rod, so why haven't I seen you catch any good seafood?"
Sun Yu scoffed: "How do you know Yu Yao didn't catch anything good?"
“Exactly, it would scare you to death if you saw it.” Su Meihua put down Yu Yao’s bucket. “Not to mention anything else, the fish in this bucket that you’re keeping to eat are many times better than all the random seafood you’ve picked up while beachcombing.”
"Really? Why don't you believe me?"
Zhou Hong crossed her arms and walked arrogantly to Yu Yao. When she saw the few scattered seafood items in Yu Yao's bucket, a hint of jealousy flashed in her eyes.
"What do you have to be proud of? If I had an imported fishing rod, I could definitely catch a red amberjack weighing over 100 pounds, just like my distant relative."
Upon hearing this, Yu Yao found it amusing, "A red amberjack weighing over a hundred pounds?"
If she remembers correctly, at the dock early this morning, the only fish that weighed over 100 jin (50 kg) was the red snapper she sold to the local specialty company.
“That’s right, it weighs over a hundred pounds.” Zhou Hong glanced disdainfully at the fish in the bucket. “Comrade Yu, you’re not from the island, so you probably don’t even recognize a red snapper. You’ve definitely never seen a red snapper weighing over a hundred pounds before.”
Zhou Hong deliberately acted haughty: "That's right, if you say a few nice words, maybe I can take pity on you and tell you something, so you can broaden your horizons."
Now, Yu Yao and the other two heard it clearly.
Good heavens, it turns out that the distant relative Zhou Hong mentioned who caught the red snapper was actually herself.
How come she doesn't remember having a distant relative like Zhou Hong?
Su Meihua and Sun Yu both looked at Zhou Hong with pity in their eyes.
Su Meihua looked at Zhou Hong and said, "This is the first time I've seen someone run up to the person in question and broaden their horizons. It's like a small knife pulling a butt; it's an eye-opener."
Sun Yu also said, "Zhou Hong, you have really broadened our horizons."
Upon hearing their conversation, Qin Lamei realized something and abruptly looked at Yu Yao.
Did she catch that fish?
Yu Yao noticed her gaze, shrugged, and spread her hands.
What else?
Qin Lamei's face turned even paler. Looking at the expressions of the other people in the cabin, they were not surprised at all.
So everyone else knows, but those three don't?!
Qin Lamei felt a wave of dizziness when she thought about how she had not only watched Zhou Hong boast but also vouched for her. She wished she could disappear into a hole in the ground.
Zhou Hong hadn't even realized what was going on yet. "What do you mean by 'the main person'? The main person is my distant relative. What does she have to do with Yu Yao? Could it be that she caught that red snapper?"
Upon hearing this, Zhou Hong froze.
No way!
How is that possible?
How could Yu Yao have caught that red snapper?
Zhou Hong panicked for a moment, but then thought of a plan and pretended to be calm, saying, "So what if Yu Yao caught a red snapper? It's not like she's the only one who can catch them. My distant relative definitely caught a bigger one than hers."
At this point, she glanced at Qin Lamei and winked at her: "Sister-in-law Qin was with me just now, and she also saw the fish that my distant relative caught."
Qin Lamei was shocked that Zhou Hong, that idiot, would specifically mention her. She couldn't catch her breath and was about to faint.
Unfortunately, Zhou Hong is oblivious when she should be, but has exceptionally sharp eyesight at other times.
She rushed to Qin Lamei's side with a look of anxiety and pinched her philtrum hard.
