Chapter 394 I Don't Want to Be Taken Back

Seeing that she liked it, Lu Ze put two more large shrimp on her plate.

After eating two large prawns, Yu Yao suddenly thought of a question and looked at Lu Ze in confusion, "I remember the cafeteria already made braised prawns once this month, why did they make it again?"

The quartermaster is most reluctant to make oily food like this. He only makes it once a month to improve the lives of the soldiers' families. Why is he making it a second time this month?

Lu Ze remained calm as he ladled a bowl of Sichuan peppercorn pigeon soup for her and placed it in front of her. "Regiment-level cadres have two special meals a month. If there's anything else you'd like to eat, just tell me, and I'll have Old Chen make it."

Yu Yao asked in surprise, "Why haven't you mentioned this before?"

Lu Ze explained, "Previously, I had already given my share to others in advance. Starting this month, we will use our share ourselves."

"I see." Yu Yao suddenly became interested when she thought about having two special meals a month. "Then next time, please ask the quartermaster to make pickled fish fillets. I want to eat that."

Making pickled peas and fresh river fish fillets is a unique skill of the quartermaster, Chen Lang, and it's not something he shares with outsiders.

Yu Yao tried it once by chance after becoming pregnant and was amazed by its deliciousness.

Later, she tried to replicate it, and the quartermaster even made an exception and gave her some pointers. However, some things involved secret recipes, and the quartermaster's master had rules that prevented him from teaching her.

Without the core secret recipe, her pickled bean fish fillets were delicious, but they were never quite the same as the quartermaster's.

The quartermaster's pickled bean fish fillets became Yu Yao's favorite dish among all the canteen dishes.

Every time the canteen makes pickled bean fish fillets, many military dependents send their husbands or children to get food. If you arrive late, you won't get any.

Now that she has the opportunity to have special meals prepared for her, Yu Yao no longer has to worry about not being able to eat in the cafeteria.

"If you want to eat it, ask Old Chen to make it next time. First, drink the fish maw and pigeon soup. Mom said it has to be eaten while it's hot, otherwise it will have a fishy smell." Lu Ze reminded her, remembering Wu Wanying's instructions.

Yu Yao put down her chopsticks and picked up the pigeon soup, taking small sips. "It's delicious. I want more."

Lu Ze ladled another bowl for her, saying, "Be careful, it's hot. Drink slowly."

Yu Yao hummed in agreement, drank the soup, and the rest of the pigeon and fish maw, which she couldn't finish, ended up in Lu Ze's stomach.

When Yu Yao went to bed at night, she took a shower and went into the room to change her clothes. Suddenly, she found that the waistband of her pajamas was a little tight.

She pinched the fat on her stomach and turned to ask Lu Ze, who was reading the newspaper by the bedside, "Lu Ze, do you think I look like I've gained weight?"

Lu Ze, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, looked up at her upon hearing this, and examined her closely. "You haven't gotten fat, you've gained weight. You used to be too thin. You look great now."

"Really?" Yu Yao lifted her clothes to look at her waist and changed into a looser pair of pants.

After climbing into bed, Yu Yao lay down inside, snuggled into Lu Ze's arms, moved his arm under her head, and looked up at Lu Ze to ask, "Lu Ze, I once read something in a book that said..."

Lu Ze closed the newspaper, took off his glasses, put both the glasses and the newspaper on the bedside table, and hugged Yu Yao closer to him. "What's the explanation?"

"The book says that when a woman is pregnant, her body secretes hormones that make her look less attractive in order to protect the mother. Her belly will grow fat, her waist will thicken, her nose will become bigger, and even her skin will become rough."

Lu Ze listened quietly to her story. "And then?"

Yu Yao drew circles on his chest with her finger. "People say that the later the pregnancy goes, the uglier the mother becomes. If I become ugly and fat, will you dislike me and the baby?"

Lu Ze chuckled: "Don't talk nonsense! You and the baby are everything to me, more important than my life. I'm too busy being good to you, how could I possibly dislike you?"

Yu Yao felt a sweet warmth in her heart, and gave him a reproachful look, "Commander Lu, your mouth is as sweet as honey now. Tell me honestly, who did you learn that from?"

Lu Ze seemed not to understand her question at all. "Why would you ask that? As a man and a father, isn't it instinctive for me to be good to you and the baby? Does that need to be taught?"

Yu Yao was taken aback by his answer, but after thinking it through, she smiled and said, "Indeed, there's no need to teach."

Lu Ze was right. She had watched too many melodramatic TV dramas from later generations and always thought that when a man said nice things to a woman, it was all sweet talk.

In reality, in Lu Ze's mind, this was nothing out of the ordinary, something that didn't even need to be mentioned; it was an instinct ingrained in his bones.

He genuinely felt that as a husband and father, it was his duty and a matter of course to treat her and their child well.

Thinking of this, Yu Yao sat up, kissed Lu Ze on the forehead, and looked into Lu Ze's eyes with bright peach blossom eyes, "Lu Ze, have I ever told you that I love you more today than yesterday?"

Hearing his lover's direct declaration of love, the usually calm and composed Commander Lu suddenly blushed and became embarrassed.

Yu Yao wasn't going to let him off the hook, cupping his face and rubbing it repeatedly, "You haven't given your answer yet."

Lu Ze coughed lightly twice, as if the words in his mouth would burn his tongue, and his lips moved several times but he couldn't say anything.

Finally, he uttered a few words.

"I have a little more than you."

Yu Yao didn't understand at first, but after thinking about it carefully, she realized what Lu Ze meant.

He will always love me a little more than I love him.

Who says a man like Lu Ze can't say sweet words? These heartfelt feelings are the most beautiful love words in the world.

A game-winning shot!

The next morning, Yu Yao took the contract to the temporary office of the local specialty products company to find Zhang He.

After meeting her, Zhang He invited her to his office for a discussion.
