Chapter 401 Harvesting Mangoes

Hu Lingyu smiled and said, "We're all family, no need for formalities. Besides, chickens bought outside are never as reassuring as home-raised hens. Yu Yao has married into the family and is helping to have more children for the Lu family, so it's only right that we take good care of her."

At this point, she grabbed her handbag and patted it, saying, "The things inside are the main reason I came here."

Yu Yao and Wu Wanying asked curiously, "What is it?"

Hu Lingyu smiled and opened the cloth bag she carried with her, taking out something wrapped in cloth.

Inside the box was a rectangular brocade box containing a ginseng root.

“This ginseng is over 150 years old. It’s a treasured possession of your father and me. I gave it to your eldest sister-in-law and third sister-in-law before they had their babies.”

"This is for you. Keep it safe; it could save your life in a critical moment."

Yu Yao knew that ginseng slices could help women survive childbirth if they were exhausted, so she didn't stand on ceremony with Hu Lingyu. "Mom, you wait for me outside. I'll go in and put the ginseng away."

After she entered the house, Wu Wanying looked at the two sacks of things, discussed them with Hu Lingyu, and began to sort and categorize them, writing labels and putting them in a fixed place so that they would be easy to find when needed in the future.

The two had almost finished getting ready and had just stood up when they heard footsteps. Looking up, they saw Su Ya and Mu Hehe coming in carrying things.

The two greeted Hu Lingyue and Wu Wanying first, and then their eyes fell on the food piled up on the table.

A hint of jealousy flashed in Su Ya's eyes.

Mom is so biased!

When she was pregnant with Yunqi, she only gave her a ginseng root and a few other things. Now that Yuyao is pregnant, she is actually giving her such a nice gift.

They're both daughters-in-law, but the treatment they receive is so different.

Seeing Su Ya's gaze fixed on the sack, Hu Lingyu knew what she was thinking and immediately said, "These things are mainly a token of your elder brother and sister-in-law's appreciation. Your father and I didn't contribute much. Don't worry about it, and don't think we're being biased."

Hearing Hu Lingyu say this, Su Ya felt even more aggrieved: "My elder brother and sister-in-law are so good to Yu Yao. They're sisters-in-law, but when I was pregnant, they weren't this anxious."

Hu Lingyu rolled her eyes at her. "Stop being sarcastic. Did you come here today just to annoy us?"

Su Ya, realizing the purpose of her visit, looked embarrassed. "Mom, look at what you're saying. I didn't mean it. I was just saying it casually. Please don't take it to heart, Auntie."

Hu Lingyu ignored her, and Wu Wanying, knowing that she and her daughter didn't get along, just smiled and let it go.

Su Ya knew she was unpopular, but there was nothing she could do. With the third brother in power, her family still had to rely on Lu Ze. Feeling uncomfortable, she could only vent her frustration by saying a few sarcastic remarks.

It was Mu Hehe's first time visiting Yu Yao's house, and she looked around with her eyes scanning the surroundings.

The main room was clean and spacious, and the floor was not the muddy ground typical of the countryside, but rather an unusual cement floor made of broken stones.

Against the wall on the right are several fine mahogany five-drawer chests, on which are displayed various glass jars, food, and various enamel cups.

Many of them bear inscriptions such as "Advanced Individual" and "Outstanding Model Worker," and are signed by the food factory below, clearly indicating that they were all awarded to Yu Yao.

On one side of the wall were various certificates of merit, all belonging to Yu Yao and Lu Ze.

Mu Hehe felt envy, jealousy, and resentment.

When her gaze fell on the refrigerator in the corner, her envy and jealousy intensified.

There's even a refrigerator! How unfair is fate!

Mu Hehe's eyes almost popped out of her head as she stared at the refrigerator, instinctively reaching out to see what good things were inside.

I had only taken two steps when I heard a few barks from a dog.

It turned out that Sixteen, who was sleeping in the bamboo doghouse, sensed the hostility from Mu Hehe and barked at her a few times.

Mu Hehe was startled and instinctively tried to kick him.

"Sixteen! Don't bite!" Yu Yao stopped Sixteen, who was about to bite someone, and said to Mu Hehe while holding the dog's leash, "I didn't know you were coming, so I didn't leash the dog."

After saying that, she led Sixteen to the courtyard, and then returned to the main room.

When Su Ya saw Yu Yao return to the main room, she quickly went to greet her, "Sister-in-law, we came to see you and Mom this time. This is a small token of our appreciation from Lao Lu and me, an old hen and two pounds of pork belly."

Hu Lingyu looked at what she was carrying and nodded, "You're quite sensible as the third sister-in-law. It's no wonder Lu Ze has been protecting you and the third brother."

Yu Yao didn't want to deal with Su Ya, but since Su Ya was Lu Ze's third brother and sister-in-law, and she brought gifts, she couldn't turn her away, so she accepted them.

In keeping with the hospitality of guests, Yu Yao brewed tea for both of them.

After Su Ya and Mu Hehe sat down, they kept asking her about her pregnancy, and Mu Hehe even subtly inquired about Lu Ze's attitude towards her pregnancy.

Yu Yao felt it was a private matter and didn't want to say more, so she just gave a few vague words to brush it off.

Unexpectedly, this led to a misunderstanding by Mu Hehe.

Mu Hehe had something on her mind and couldn't sit still. After a short while, she pulled Su Ya back.

Looking at the two figures from behind, Yu Yao felt that Mu Hehe had ill intentions.

The next morning, Yu Yao and Su Meihua had breakfast and went to the Women's Director's office together.

This place is temporarily being used as a meeting place for side hustle groups.

When we arrived, many people from the side hustle group were already there. After waiting for another two minutes, everyone was present.

Yu Yao first outlined the key tasks for the day, and then together with Zhu Xiudan, appointed four group leaders and assigned responsibilities.

After explaining the key points and precautions for harvesting mangoes today, Yu Yao led fifteen people onto five large trucks borrowed from the logistics department and headed to Qingshui Bay.

The remaining five people stayed behind with Zhu Xiudan to prepare the sugar syrup and drying tools for making dried mangoes.
