There were guards standing watch at the door of Commander Zheng's office.
After Cui Zhizhou stepped forward and stated his purpose, the guard went to report to Commander Zheng.
Commander Zheng was somewhat surprised, thinking something had happened at the shipyard, and immediately summoned them.
When they went in, Commander Zheng was on the phone. His bodyguard, Xiao Zhang, asked them to wait on the sofa for a moment until Commander Zheng finished his call.
Yu Yao and the other two sat down and waited. The guard, Xiao Zhang, made them three cups of tea.
It was Yu Yao's first time in Commander Zheng's office. She sat on the hard, traditional Chinese wooden sofa and looked around curiously.
It was different from the offices of military leaders that she saw in TV dramas in her later life.
Commander Zheng's office was even more simple, it could even be described as rudimentary.
A desk, chair, bookshelf, plus a wooden sofa and coffee table—that's all the furniture in the office.
The wooden sofa and coffee table were painted, presumably to prepare for receiving guests, while the other furniture was simply natural wood in color, with no extra decorations except for being polished smooth.
The space in front of the desk is quite large, presumably to facilitate others reporting their work.
Yu Yao thought of Lu Ze.
Is this where Lu Ze usually reports on his work?
I wonder what he's like when he reports on his work? Is he serious and formal, calm and composed, or sharp and authoritative?
It has been half a month since Lu Ze left. I wonder how his mission went, whether he was injured, and whether he can come back before his birthday.
As Yu Yao was lost in thought, she didn't realize that Commander Zheng had finished his call and was sitting across from them.
Commander Zheng asked them with concern, "Professor Cui, has something happened at the shipyard?"
Cui Zhizhou said, "It's not about the shipyard, it's about two juniors. I didn't want to bother you, Master, but the rumors outside have gone too far, so I had no choice but to come to you for advice."
Upon hearing this, Commander Zheng composed himself and became serious. "Professor Cui, it's alright, please speak freely."
Cui Zhizhou nodded to Yu Yao.
Yu Yao began, "Commander Zheng, the cause and effect of this matter is as follows..."
After hearing her words, Commander Zheng was clearly very angry, but he seemed to be afraid of scaring them, so he deliberately suppressed his anger. "Xiao Zhang, go and call Ning Hongjun here for me."
The guard said, "Yes, sir."
After the guards left, Commander Zheng looked at Yu Yao and the other two, "Professor Cui, Comrade Yu, Comrade Jin, don't worry about this matter. I will definitely give you an explanation. Some of the family members in the residential compound are really getting more and more outrageous. It's one thing to gossip about other people's business, but now they even dare to spread rumors like this. What kind of behavior is this!"
“The division commander is right. If this matter were just a simple matter, we wouldn’t have bothered you. It’s just that the other party has ulterior motives.”
"Not only did they say that the child in my belly was Senior Brother Jin's, but they also said that my close relationship with Senior Brother Jin was because I wanted to secretly steal the shipyard's secrets and that I had ulterior motives."
"At this point, it's no longer just a matter for me alone. If this isn't clarified, my father, Senior Brother Jin, and Lu Ze's political futures will all be affected. That's why I have no choice but to come to you, Master, to seek justice."
If it's just a simple case of spreading obscene rumors, you can just go to Sister Dan. Whether it's a public reprimand or a written self-criticism, it will serve as a warning.
However, since it involves the shipyard's secrets, even if Qin Lamei only mentioned it briefly and it didn't attract the attention of others, it can't be left like this.
If this is exploited and amplified by those with ulterior motives, it will be much more difficult for Lu Ze, Senior Brother Jin, and even Cui Zhizhou to advance their careers in the future.
After listening to Yu Yao's explanation, Commander Zheng was not angry at all, but also agreed with her approach. "You did a great job. The shipyard's secrets are of great importance. Although this matter has only started, it should not be underestimated."
"There are still some cunning enemies hiding in our revolutionary ranks, trying to undermine and hinder the development of the island forces. Any carelessness could be exploited by the enemy, causing incalculable losses to the development of the island forces."
Commander Zheng asked some more questions, which Yu Yao answered one by one.
After inquiring about the rumors, Commander Zheng also showed great concern for the situation of the sideline group.
"I heard from Xiudan that the dried mango business is booming now. It has not only helped the people solve the problem of unsold mangoes, but also brought considerable income to the army. It's really a pleasant surprise."
As he spoke, he looked at Cui Zhizhou beside him and said, "Professor Cui, you are truly remarkable. You are a woman who is just as capable as any man. In production, Comrade Yu has the demeanor of a great general."
Cui Zhizhou was extremely proud, and his eyes crinkled with laughter as he looked at his beloved daughter. "Commander Zheng, you flatter me. She is still young and has a lot to learn."
Yu Yao smiled modestly: "The success of the side business group is not due to my efforts alone, but to the joint efforts of all the members. Sister Dan, Sister Meihua, Sister Sun Yu, Sister Xiao, Aunt Liu, Sister Wang, and many other outstanding members have all performed exceptionally well."
Commander Zheng smiled kindly and warmly, “You are all good comrades. That’s right, this is the kind of spirit that the family members in our compound should have: hardworking, down-to-earth, and able to endure hardship. Keep up the good work and set a good example for the compound.”
Yu Yao nodded, "Don't worry, Commander, we will definitely do our best and live up to the organization's trust in us."
Cui Zhizhou and Jin Yunlai nodded in agreement.
After finishing their business, Yu Yao and the others took their leave. Commander Zheng saw them to the door, watched their departing figures, and asked the guard beside him, "Hasn't Xiao Zhang returned yet?"
