Yu Yao's heart skipped a beat. "Has something happened to An An?"
Ningning seemed to sense the heavy atmosphere and burst into tears.
Wu Wanying held her and tried to comfort her, but nothing worked. The child seemed to know that her brother was in trouble and kept crying until her little face turned red.
"You guys chat first, I'll take Ningning outside for some fresh air."
After Wu Wanying finished speaking, she took the child and went out.
The ward returned to silence, but the child's cries felt like a slow, agonizing torture to the parents.
Twins are interconnected; if Ningning is crying so hard, An'an probably isn't doing much better.
Yu Yao felt distressed at the thought of An An crying somewhere she didn't know, with no one to comfort her.
Lu Ze was also heartbroken, but he was a man, and even if the sky were to fall, he couldn't show weakness. "Song Yiming, just tell me, what exactly happened?"
Song Yiming looked guilty: "Commander, sister-in-law, it's my fault. Wang Xiu hid the child. We searched all along the way, but we still can't find An'an."
Yu Yao's heart tightened. "Where's Wang Xiu? Did she say anything?"
“Wang Xiu said that if we don’t let her go, she will not tell us where our child is. She wants her sister-in-law to live with guilt forever.”
"I understand," Yu Yao said calmly.
Song Yiming thought his sister-in-law would be sad, but to his surprise, she wiped away her tears, cheered herself up, and turned to Lu Ze: "Lu Ze, I want to see Wang Xiu, is that alright?"
A mother's love is strong. An'an needs her now, and she has no time to be sad. She must find him as soon as possible.
It has been more than an hour since An'an was taken away. The longer it is delayed, the worse it will be for the child.
Looking into her determined eyes, Lu Ze nodded. "I'll take you there."
Upon arriving at the interrogation room, Lu Ze asked Qin Ye, "How's the interrogation going? Has she revealed An'an's whereabouts?"
“Ever since she was brought back, she has been crying foul. Whenever we ask her about the whereabouts of her child, she threatens us to release her.” Qin Ye rubbed his temples.
Commander Lei said angrily, "If she is innocent, then no one in this world is guilty."
Yu Yao said, "I'll give it a try. Wang Xiu hates me so much, maybe she can get some clues from me when she sees me emotional."
Qin Ye thought about it and agreed.
Lu Ze wanted to go in with her, but Yu Yao stopped him, saying, "Wang Xiu will be wary when she sees you. Only if I go in alone will she be more likely to reveal her true colors."
Lu Ze was a little worried, but Yu Yao was right, so he reminded her, "Be careful when you go in. She's emotional, don't let her get close to you."
"Yes, I know."
After Yu Yao finished speaking, she went into the interrogation room.
The interrogation room had only a small window, about the size of a bowl, for ventilation. It was surrounded by walls, making the space cramped and oppressive. Only the cold light from the overhead incandescent bulb shone through.
Wang Xiu sat in a chair with her hands handcuffed and placed on the table. She looked terrible; her face and arms were covered in cuts from branches and weeds, and her hair was a mess with leaves on it.
Yu Yao pulled out a chair in front of Wang Xiu and sat down. "Wang Xiu, it's been a long time."
Although she just gave birth, Yu Yao is recovering very well.
She dressed up specially for this visit to see Wang Xiu, wearing a new sweater knitted by Wu Wanying and blue pants. Her fair and delicate skin made her even more radiant.
This is completely different from Wang Xiu, who is now a prisoner sitting in a chair.
As expected, Wang Xiu became agitated upon seeing her, her voice sharp and shrill: "What are you doing here? Are you here to laugh at me?"
No sooner had she finished speaking than Wang Xiu suddenly seemed to remember something. She leaned forward, her eyes gleaming as she looked at Yu Yao: "Yu Yao, do you want to know where your child is? If you let me go, I'll tell you. How about it?"
Seeing that she was too agitated, the comrade next to Wang Xiu was afraid that she would hurt Yu Yao, so he pushed her back to her seat.
Yu Yao remained calm, having subtly observed Wang Xiu since earlier. "You should know that I don't have that much power. I can promise you that I will help you within my capabilities, as long as you tell me the whereabouts of the child."
When talking about "the child's whereabouts," Yu Yao deliberately spoke slowly, carefully observing Wang Xiu's expression.
Wang Xiu's gaze flickered for a moment, then she stared coldly at Yu Yao, a hint of malice flashing in her eyes, "Since you can't do it, then there's no need to talk. If you want to know where your child is, dream on."
“Yu Yao, even if my life is ruined, I will not let you have an easy time. You know, when I hid that child, he cried so pitifully.”
“That little face is so fair and tender, it looks so pretty when she cries.” Wang Xiu pointed to Yu Yao’s eyes with her finger. “Her eyes are just like yours, they turn red when she cries, it’s so heartbreaking.”
She said she felt sorry for Yu Yao, but her smile was malicious. She deliberately exaggerated the situation to make Yu Yao angry.
Go ahead and be angry, be angry until you die of anger.
The more miserable, the more pained, and the worse Yu Yao's life became, the happier she felt.
Yu Yao's reaction was unexpected. She remained calm, as if watching a farce and being the clown in the play.
This disdain deeply offended Wang Xiu. "Aren't you angry? Did you even hear what I just said, or are you just too angry to think straight? I just said that when I threw your son away, he cried so hard, he cried so pitifully. He..."
Before Wang Xiu could speak, a sharp sound of a chair scraping against the ground rang out.
Yu Yao stood up, looked down at Wang Xiu, and a contemptuous smile appeared on her lips.
"What are you laughing at?" Wang Xiu looked at Yu Yao with a sinister expression, her smile vanishing.
Yu Yao leaned down, looked at her, and said, word by word, "I laugh at your pretense, but you don't know the child's whereabouts at all."
Wang Xiu's pupils contracted slightly, and she clenched her fists. "Yu Yao, it seems you don't love the child that much after all. Aren't you just making excuses to avoid saving the child? You're just as hypocritical as I am."
Ignoring her accusations, Yu Yao continued, "You didn't take the child at all. It was Ma Feng, that man, or Wang the fortune teller?"
When Wang Shenpo was mentioned, although Wang Xiu tried her best not to reveal any flaws, her eyes still betrayed her.
Yu Yao stood up. "It seems I guessed right. It was Granny Wang who took the child."
This time, Wang Xiu was truly terrified, staring at Yu Yao in disbelief.
Impossible, how could she know?
Yu Yao sneered, "Comrade, I've finished asking my questions. You can continue the interrogation."
After saying that, she got up and hurriedly walked outside.
Wang Xiu's plan failed, and she panicked, standing up agitatedly to deny it: "Yu Yao, you're wrong, I'm the one who took the child. We have a grudge, everyone in the compound knows that. Do you think I would let go of such a good opportunity to get revenge on you?"
Yu Yao didn't even glance at her.
"I'm the one who took the child away, do you understand? It was me, I took the child away!"
"I took it."
"Damn it! Damn it!"
Wang Xiu was furious behind him, and the handcuffs slammed on the table with a jarring sound.
No matter how much she roared, Yu Yao didn't turn around.
Seeing that her plan had completely fallen through, Wang Xiu was so angry that her chest ached and she felt extremely frustrated. Her throat itched and she spat out a mouthful of blood.
