Yu Yao knew he was concerned about her, so she tried her best to reassure him. "There's not much wind tonight. I took precautions before I came out. I wouldn't risk my health."
Lu Ze knew that if Yu Yao didn't go, she would stay at home anxious and unable to rest properly, so he agreed.
Fearing she might catch a cold, Lu Ze stepped forward to adjust her scarf, making sure it covered her head and face better, leaving only her eyes and nose exposed.
This way, it won't obstruct your view and will also provide good protection.
The two groups set off immediately.
Wang the fortune teller had some counter-surveillance skills. Lu Ze and Yu Yao walked along the mountain path that wound around the mountainside for more than ten minutes without finding any trace of Wang the fortune teller.
They were almost at the mountains; if they didn't find it soon, the trail would go cold.
Finally, Lu Ze found a strip of cloth that had been caught on a tree branch in the roadside grass. It was hidden in the shadows and could easily be missed if you didn't look carefully.
Finding the cloth strip doesn't necessarily mean it was left by Wang the fortune teller; it could also have been accidentally left by other people who went up the mountain.
Lu Ze took the strip of cloth and examined it carefully under the flashlight.
Yu Yao held her breath: "How is it? Did she leave it?"
Lu Ze nodded. "She left it there."
Yu Yao breathed a sigh of relief, looked at the mountains and forests in front of her, and silently said in her heart: An'an, don't be afraid, Mom will come to pick you up soon.
After confirming that Granny Wang had indeed come up the mountain via this route, the group split up to search the forest for more traces of her.
Even if Granny Wang was extremely careful while fleeing for her life, it was impossible for her to erase all traces; there would inevitably be omissions. And these omissions were their opportunity.
Sure enough, during the subsequent search, following the trail within a ten-meter radius, a second trail was quickly discovered.
"Commander, there are signs of broken tree branches here," a soldier shouted.
A hint of joy flashed in Lu Ze and Yu Yao's eyes. They went over to check and followed the marks left by broken branches to see trampled weeds. Finally, they determined the direction of Granny Wang.
Lu Ze gathered the others and they searched along the path that Granny Wang had taken.
As Yu Yao passed by a dilapidated banana grove, she smelled a familiar fragrance.
It smells like the mosquito repellent sachet that An'an is wearing.
"Lu Ze, An An is nearby."
