The young man in the Lenin suit shoved the things in his right hand into his left, freeing his hand to reach into his breast pocket.
A silver-white pocket watch appeared in his hand, and he opened it.
Inside is a photo of a little girl.
The little girl looked about seven or eight years old, wearing a delicate little dress and a pink hair tie. Her cheeks were a bit chubby, her peach blossom eyes were watery, and she was smiling happily.
She has a smiling mouth and adorable dimples.
The young man in the Lenin suit glanced at Yu Yao, then looked down at the pocket watch in his hand, his eyes filled with both anticipation and trepidation.
The train emitted a mournful sound, its whistle blaring long and drawn-out.
The platform became increasingly crowded.
The young man tried to squeeze through to confirm, but was pushed and shoved by the crowd, and could only watch helplessly as Yu Yao's figure grew further and further away.
"Comrade! Comrade! That female comrade in the polyester shirt and trousers!"
The young man's anxious voice was quickly drowned out by the cacophony of voices.
Yu Yao looked up at the huge crowd.
There were so many people at the train station in the 1970s, it was so crowded that she was almost squeezed into a meat pie and couldn't move at all.
If it weren't for Grandpa Lu Ze, she might not have been able to squeeze onto the train by herself.
Lu Ze pointed to a window that was wide open about a meter ahead: "Yu Yao, Dad, Mom, here! This is where we are."
Yu Yao breathed a sigh of relief; she had finally found it.
Squeezing onto a train once is no less strenuous than running three kilometers; her forehead was covered in sweat.
Looking at the crowd of people all around her, Yu Yao frowned. "How are we supposed to get up here?"
Lu Ze looked around and said to Yu Yao, "There are too many people at the entrance, so we can't get up there. I'll carry you, and you can climb in through the window."
Yu Yao glanced at the other windows; people were already climbing in, so this was the only option.
She had just put down her suitcase and was about to climb up when she realized that she was lifted off the ground at an extremely fast speed.
It turned out that Lu Ze had lifted her up.
Yu Yao was stunned for a moment, then realized what was happening and quickly climbed into the car through the window.
After climbing inside, she waited for him at the window.
Next came the other people and their luggage. Lu Ze brought up the rear. By the time everyone else and their belongings had boarded, the train was about to depart.
Yu Yao reached out her hand to him, "Lu Ze, let me pull you up."
Her hand was slender and fair, yet it reached out to her with firm strength.
Lu Ze glanced at her and hummed in agreement.
Holding her hand with one hand and gripping the window frame with the other, he used his feet to push off the ground and climbed up.
Yu Yao was once again filled with envy at his skills.
Hu Lingyu, standing nearby, felt both happy and worried as she watched the two holding hands.
You're such a great young man, how come you can't do it?
I wonder if the medicine I asked my old friend to get has been found yet? I'm really worried.
The only two people present who were dissatisfied were probably Su Ya and Lu Yunqi.
Su Ya pursed her lips slightly. What kind of behavior is this in public? It's so unseemly.
Lu Yunqi also felt uncomfortable and secretly vowed to work hard to train when he got back.
His gaze fell on Yu Yao's smiling face, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
Yu Yao, do you think you can live a happy life by choosing Lu Ze?
You're wrong. Marrying Lu Ze is just the beginning of your tragedy. I'm waiting for the day you come back and beg me!
After finally squeezing onto the train, Yu Yao realized that, whether by coincidence or design, only Su Ya and Lu Yunqi were not in the same carriage as them.
The remaining people, although their berths were not next to each other, were all in the same carriage.
These days, people who can afford sleeper berths are no ordinary people; they're either leaders in their workplaces or have connections. Lu Ze must have gone to great lengths to buy so many tickets at once.
She and Lu Ze shared a bunk bed, one on the top and one on the bottom.
The two elderly people, Dad and Mom, were with Tianya in a spot two beds away.
It's not far, so they can take care of anything that happens.
Lu Ze helped Yu Yao put away her luggage, but didn't rush to put away his own.
Seeing Yu Yao's confusion, Lu Ze explained, "Our regimental political commissar's wife is pregnant, and she's going to take care of her. She's coming to the island with us."
Because it was a last-minute decision, the aunt could only get a standing ticket, so Lu Ze gave his sleeper ticket to her and went to the hard seat in the next carriage himself.
As they were talking, they heard someone call Lu Ze's name.
"Comrade Lu! We've finally found you."
"It's my aunt's voice." Lu Ze looked in the direction of the sound.
Yu Yao also turned around.
They saw a moving suitcase walking towards them from behind the aisle, and the sound came from behind the suitcase.
Lu Ze quickly stepped forward to help, and Yu Yao gathered the luggage on the ground.
Upon arriving at the location, the luggage was put down, revealing a face flushed and covered in sweat. Yu Yao's eyes widened in surprise.
"Aunt Ge, I didn't expect it to be you."
Ge Jinhua was also surprised and said with a smile, "I just got home last night and heard that you got married. I haven't congratulated you yet."
At this point, she suddenly paused, realizing something, and her gaze shifted between Lu Ze and Yu Yao.
"You're not going to marry Comrade Lu, are you?!"
Yu Yao smiled and nodded, "It really is him."
Ge Jinhua opened her mouth wide and clicked her tongue twice in amazement. "I always said you two were a good match, but it was a pity you were already engaged. No wonder it's such a match made in heaven. After all the twists and turns, you two actually got married. This is probably what they mean by 'Those who are destined to meet will meet even if they are a thousand miles apart, while those who are not destined to meet will not meet even if they are face to face.'"
She remembered that Comrade Lu was not engaged at the time. Although she didn't know what had happened between the two of them, as long as the outcome was good, she didn't ask any more questions.
Commander Lu is cold on the outside but warm on the inside; he's clearly a man who dotes on his wife. If Yu Yao marries him, her future will definitely be bright.
