Chapter 82 Do you...regret it?

Yu Yao turned her head to look when she heard the sound.

A pretty woman with a gentle smile stood by the low wall on the left, holding a clothes pole in her hand.

“Commander Lu’s wife, my name is Song Yufeng, I am the wife of the Third Battalion Commander of the First Regiment, this is for you.”

"Thank you, Comrade Song. I just moved in and my house isn't fully furnished yet, so please don't be shy."

Yu Yao took the clothes rack and chatted with Song Yufeng while hanging up the clothes.

After chatting with Song Yufeng for a few minutes, Yu Yao figured out her personality.

She is a gentle and kind lesbian.

She is somewhat shy and tends to lower her head when speaking to people, appearing somewhat insecure.

However, it's easy to get along with people like that as neighbors, and it's not easy to have conflicts.

I wonder who my neighbor on the right is?

She glanced at the other person's yard in the morning and was amazed.

Farm tools and miscellaneous items were piled up haphazardly in the corner, and chicken feathers and droppings were everywhere, making it look rather filthy.

Most of the military dependents come from rural areas. They are strong and hardworking, and they keep their yards clean and tidy.

This was the first time she had ever seen a military dependents' home like this. She didn't know what kind of people there were, and just hoped they wouldn't be troublesome.

The two were chatting happily when they heard a forced snort from their nose coming from the right, followed by a woman carrying an enamel basin walking out of the house.

Round face, flat nose, small eyes.

He glanced at them with his head held high, fed the chickens, and went inside, seemingly disdainful of associating with them.

Yu Yao raised an eyebrow. "Who is she? Have I offended her?"

They strutted around arrogantly, as if they were about to fly up to the sky and stand shoulder to shoulder with the sun.

Song Yufeng's face stiffened, and her smile became forced. "That's Zhou Yuju, the wife of the Second Battalion Commander of the First Regiment. Her husband competed with Battalion Commander Lu for the position of regimental commander, but he lost. And she's Zhou Yinhua's cousin."

"Who is Zhou Yinhua?" Yu Yao asked, her face full of questions.

Seeing that she knew nothing, Song Yufeng told her everything she knew: "It's that woman who caused you trouble on the procurement ship last time. Back then, Zhou Yinhua took a liking to Commander Lu, who was then a battalion commander, and asked her to be his matchmaker, but Commander Lu didn't agree."

Yu Yao understood.

These two sisters have a grudge against their own family.

She glanced at the low wall on her right. In this era, the walls and fences were built so low that one could see everything in the other courtyards from inside the yard, leaving no privacy whatsoever.

The area on the right is so big, it would be a waste to use it only for growing vegetables. Let's just plant some thorny iron fences instead.

Not only does it provide excellent insulation, but the fruit it produces can also be sold to herbal medicine purchasing stations to earn a little money.

After hanging up the clothes, Yu Yao returned the clothes rack to Song Yufeng.

"My husband, Lao Wu, has plenty of clothes poles. He can make them from any wood he finds on the mountain. If you don't mind, I'll give you this one."

“This clothes support is so well made, every burr has been carefully removed. It’s obvious that Battalion Commander Wu put a lot of effort into it, so how could I possibly dislike it? I’ll accept it then, thank you Sister Song and Battalion Commander Wu.”

Yu Yao put down the clothes pole and said to Song Yufeng, "Sister-in-law Song, wait for me a moment."

After saying that, he went inside and soon came out with two bunches of mushrooms.

"These are mushrooms that are a specialty of my hometown. Once they're soaked in water, they're delicious whether you stir-fry them or use them in soup. Here, take these."

We left some for Sister-in-law Sun yesterday, and there are still many in the room. Apart from what she and Lu Ze picked on the mountain, the rest were exchanged with the brigade leader using work points before we left.

She's already moved her household registration, so keeping her work points is useless; she might as well exchange them for something more practical.

Mushrooms are inexpensive yet convey a thoughtful sentiment, making them the perfect gift.

Song Yufeng was pleasantly surprised to receive the mushrooms. Not only did she give her a jar of pickled cucumbers she had made herself, but she also picked some tomatoes and bok choy from her own garden for her.

Yu Yao happily accepted it.

Neighborly relations develop through this give-and-take.

In the evening, Battalion Commander Wu returned from the army and saw an unfamiliar dish of stir-fried mushrooms and pork on the table. "Did you go mushroom picking on the mountain today?"

Song Yufeng shook her head mysteriously, placed a mushroom in the man's bowl, and said gently with a smile, "This was given to me by Yu Yao next door. You don't know, Yu Yao is beautiful, knows amazing martial arts, and is also very interesting. Talking to her is always a pleasure..."

Battalion Commander Wu felt genuinely happy as he watched his wife's joyful expression when she spoke of Yu Yao.

The two were childhood sweethearts and had been engaged since they were young.

But ever since that incident in his second year of military service, he has rarely seen her so close to anyone.

"Commander Lu's wife is such a good person, you should spend more time with her in the future. They just moved here, and Commander Lu is usually very busy, so if the family has any activities, please invite her."

Song Yufeng took a bite of the mushroom with satisfaction, her eyes sparkling. "Of course."

The other side of the courtyard.

When Lu Ze returned from the cafeteria with his food, a look of surprise flashed in his eyes as he saw the drastically changed room.

Yu Yao felt a little smug and shared her renovation plan with him.

Upon hearing Yu Yao's description, Lu Ze seemed to envision the future courtyard, and his expression softened.

“The yard on the right is bigger. I want to plant an iron fence in the corner to enclose a small circle and raise a few hens so that we can have eggs to eat in the future.”

"I'll use the left side to plant some vegetables and fruit trees. If I can find passion fruit, I'd like to plant one in the yard so I can enjoy the fruit and the shade next summer."

Looking at her smiling face, Lu Ze said gently, "Let's do it your way. Sister-in-law Sun Yu has the vegetable seeds. As for the chicks and passion fruit, I'll figure something out."

He enjoyed listening to her talk, especially the way she spoke so eloquently; it gave him an indescribable feeling.
