Upon hearing this, Zhao Shengli put down what he was holding and went to the door. He had met Lu Ze once before and recognized him.
"Commander Lu? I didn't expect to see you here. What brings you here?"
Lu Ze nodded slightly. "Hello, Comrade Zhao. I'm here to see my wife. She works in your workshop."
Song Yiming, who was standing next to her, also said, "Our sister-in-law's name is Yu Yao."
Zhao Shengli suddenly realized, "So you're Yu Yao's lover. Isn't Yu Yao off work at this time?"
The worker on duty next to him said, "Brother Zhao, you forgot? Yu Yao was seconded to the purchasing department to help out."
"Oh, I remember now." Zhao Shengli wiped his hands on his apron. "Commander Lu, I've just finished my work. I'll take you there."
"Then thank you, Comrade Zhao."
"No need to thank me, no need to thank me. Your wife is now an advanced employee in our sugar soup workshop. Her sugar soup is even more accurate than that of our veteran employees."
Lu Ze felt proud when he heard Zhao Shengli praise Yu Yao, saying, "She is very outstanding."
Zhao Shengli was a little surprised that Lu would respond to him, since Commander Lu was known for being taciturn.
Then he realized that Lu Ze was only interested in Yu Yao's affairs, and listened quietly without saying anything about anything else.
Lu Ze glanced at the annoying Song Yiming, "Aren't you leaving?"
Song Yiming shook his head: "I'm not leaving, I still have things to discuss with my sister-in-law."
“The warehouse is just ahead.” Zhao Shengli suddenly exclaimed, “The tobacco curing barn has been converted into a warehouse. Who’s starting a fire here? Isn’t this ridiculous? Let me see which warehouse number it is.”
Zhao Shengli quickened his pace, with Lu Ze and Song Yiming following closely behind.
"It's Warehouse No. 11. That seems to be where sugarcane is stored. Yu Yao should be there."
Zhao Shengli was wondering who was starting a fire when he saw Lu Ze next to him stare at the bicycle next to Warehouse No. 11. His expression changed instantly, and he ran towards Warehouse No. 11 at an extremely fast speed.
As soon as he ran, Song Yiming immediately followed.
Zhao Shengli chased after them, shouting as he went, not understanding why the two had suddenly started running.
The people who were originally tending the fire in the tobacco curing room turned and ran when they saw someone coming.
Zhao Shengli was in a bad situation. The two sides were some distance apart, and if the other party ran away, how could he catch them?
Lu Ze picked up a pebble from the ground and threw it quickly. A scream was heard from a distance as the fleeing person fell to the ground.
"Song Yiming, arrest him!"
"Yes, ma'am!" Song Yiming quickly ran towards the person tending the fire.
Lu Ze ran to the door of Warehouse No. 11, banged on it, and called out, "Yu Yao? Yu Yao, are you in there?"
Zhao Shengli finally caught up. "Several warehouses here are used to store sugarcane. Comrade Yu may not be here."
Lu Ze, however, did not believe it.
Yu Yao cherishes the bicycle I bought for her so much; she would never stray too far from it.
In the warehouse, Yu Yao forced open her heavy eyelids. Was she going to die?
I actually heard Lu Ze's voice.
"Yu Yao? Yu Yao? Are you inside?"
The sound came again.
Yu Yao couldn't believe it. She pressed her ear against the warehouse door, excitedly raised her hand, and patted the door, wanting to speak.
I tried my best, but my throat felt like it was stuck together, and I couldn't make a sound.
She could only raise her hand and pound on the warehouse door, but dehydration and lack of oxygen left her weak and unable to make a sound.
Yu Yao bit her lip hard, the pain clearing her mind and giving her some strength to slap herself.
"Lu Ze, Lu Ze, I'm here."
Lu Ze's ears twitched. "Did you hear anything?"
Song Yiming and Zhao Shengli looked at each other, "What was that sound? Was there any sound?"
Lu Ze pressed his ear against the warehouse wall and heard a faint sound. Although the sound was hoarse and weak, unlike his usual clear voice, he still recognized it.
"It's Yu Yao, Yu Yao is inside."
"Where's the key?" Lu Ze asked.
The person held in Song Yiming's hand laughed cruelly, "Don't waste your energy, I threw away the key a long time ago, they have to die inside."
Song Yiming punched him. "Shut up. Commander, I just searched him, he doesn't have any keys."
Zhao Shengli's face turned pale. "What can we do? The tobacco curing barn has been sealed off after being converted into a warehouse. It will take time. The warehouse guards have already gone back to their dormitories. Staying inside will suffocate us."
The more critical the situation, the calmer Lu Ze remained, though his slightly trembling hands betrayed his fear.
His eyes quickly scanned the area before landing on the pebbles in the corner. He went over, picked up a stone, and smashed it hard against the lock.
Bang bang bang!
The pebbles sparked as they hit the metal lock. Lu Ze's hand was grazed by the sharp edges of the lock and bled, but he ignored it and continued to smash the pebbles against it.
Song Yiming handcuffed the man to the railing. "Commander, let me help you."
The two men smashed the lock with pebbles for a full minute before it was finally broken open.
Lu Ze unlocked the door and opened the iron gate of the warehouse, where he immediately saw Yu Yao lying unconscious to the side.
He rushed over, helped her up, and his voice trembled as he cried, "Yu Yao, wake up! Yu Yao, wake up!"
Yu Yao slowly opened her eyes, her voice hoarse: "Lu Ze, you've finally come."
When Lu Ze saw that she was awake, he hugged her and kept comforting her, "It's okay, it's okay."
Yu Yao turned her head to check on Wu Huaiqing's condition, but Lu Ze said, "He's fine. He just fainted due to dehydration and lack of oxygen. I'll take you to the clinic right away."
Yu Yao blinked and closed her eyes to rest.
