Chapter 21: Fancy a Bicycle

"Okay, don't worry about it. Do you see that uncle in the corner?" The teller chuckled and pointed to the corner where a person was sitting.

"You buy the baby's breath and then ask him to replace the strap for an extra five dollars, but you have to give him the original strap."

This solution is good!

Xiang Meimei didn't expect this to happen and looked at Chen Wei in surprise.

He originally wanted to buy something that satisfied her, so Chen Wei readily took out the money and gave it to the teller along with the ticket: "This is 155 yuan, please order."

The teller took off Xiang Meimei's two watches, took Chen Wei's money, and counted them slowly. After confirming that they were correct, he took out a brand new one and gave it to her: "Go ahead, the uncle's surname is Li."

Xiang Meimei shouted "Uncle Li" and ran over, while Chen Wei followed with a smile.

While packing up, the teller sighed in his heart: Young people nowadays are so sweet.

Uncle Li, who had been dozing off in his chair, opened his eyes and asked, "What's wrong, little girl?"

Half of his hair is white, and the youngest child is older than Xiang Meimei, so it is normal to call her a little girl.

Xiang Meimei took out the warm baby's breath and said, "I don't like this steel strap. Can you give me a leather one like the Patek Philippe Purple Diamond? I'll pay more."

"Okay, five dollars. Come pick it up in half an hour." Uncle Li was not surprised and reached out to take the watch box.

Xiang Meimei was about to pay when Chen Wei handed her a five-yuan note. "Excuse me, uncle. Can we sit and wait for a while?"

"No, let's go to the bicycle counter." Xiang Meimei pulled Chen Wei to the next door.

There are a lot of people at the bicycle counter. Many people want to own one, so they come to take a look, but not everyone can afford it.

After looking around, Xiang Meimei decided on a Phoenix 28-inch bicycle. Before she could ask the cashier, the kid next to her immediately quoted a price:

"This one is 240 yuan, the second most expensive in the whole place."

The children have memorized the prices by heart, but unfortunately they can't afford it. Who would buy this for no reason? They can't even fill their stomachs with it, and they don't have any spare money to waste.

Xiang Meimei also hesitated. Her mother only gave half of the betrothal gift, which was two hundred yuan to buy a bicycle. Who would have thought it would be so expensive!

The teller on the side thought that this couple might be able to get along, so he came over and said, "Hey girl, this one? It's not as expensive as he said. It's 180 yuan with a ticket."

"Can my partner try it out and see if the height is suitable?" Xiang Meimei asked. The price was within a manageable range.

Only those who dare to try want to buy. After all, only those who dislike the goods are the ones who buy them. The cashier agreed: "You can put your feet on it, but you can't pedal. Our place is small, and you will crash if you ride it."

Chen Wei gestured to Meimei to try it on and found it fit, with the length of her feet being a little longer.

"This is just right. It's easy to pedal," the teller said. "This bike is the best brand in China, the Phoenix. It's made of fine steel, with a 28-inch handlebar. It's good for decades."

He habitually said the promotional slogan, but saw the little girl took out her pocket and directly counted out eighteen big black stones and a bicycle ticket and handed them to him.

"I bought this one. How do I transport it down to the fourth floor? What if it gets bumped while walking up the stairs?" Xiang Meimei looked at the car body worriedly.

The cashier didn't expect the deal to go so smoothly, and immediately couldn't help but feel happy: "I'll write you a receipt, and you can go to the yard on the first floor, turn right, and pick it up. That's our warehouse."

He took the money and ticket, put them away carefully, and then wrote a receipt and handed it to the stunned Chen Wei: "Young man, what are you standing there for? Take the receipt."

You can't let a girl ride a 28-inch bicycle, right?

Chen Wei looked at Xiang Meimei in shock: "Where did you get the money?"

"You are so stupid, I got my money the same way you got it."

Does the Xiang family love their daughter so much?

That’s right, if you can give your daughter a good thing like a lighter blueprint, it seems reasonable to use half of the betrothal gift to buy a bicycle, right?

The two men collected the receipts and walked back to Uncle Li, only to discover that he had just taken off the watch strap.

"Are you so impatient? I can't eat hot tofu." He joked.

Chen Wei looked at Xiang Meimei tenderly: "Then let's go downstairs and take a look. I agreed to buy you some jewelry."

The two of them whispered to each other and slowly went downstairs.

Uncle Li was left alone, eating dog food while changing his watch strap: "Strange, how come I feel full even though I haven't eaten?"

The jewelry counter downstairs mostly sells various hair ties and hairpins, and very few real jewelry.

After searching around for a while, I finally found the jewelry counter. The teller in charge of gold and silver was knitting a sweater. She looked up at the young couple through her glasses and pointed to the sign next to them:

Silver: 30 cents per gram

Gold: 5 yuan per gram, labor costs are extra.

It makes people dizzy when they see it.

5 yuan, a person works hard for half a month to make matchboxes, but it can only buy one gram of gold here.

Oh no, there is also the labor cost. Half a month’s effort cannot buy one gram.

So it is understandable that this counter is deserted.

In an age where food and drink are a major concern, who would buy gold and silver jewelry? Besides, people tend to buy small yellow croakers to preserve their value, so few people buy jewelry.

There weren't many things on the counter, just ten pairs of earrings, eleven rings, two necklaces, and three bracelets.

Xiang Meimei looked at them one by one. They were all very exquisite. Finally, she picked out a ring and a pair of earrings: "Sister, take out these two. I'll take a look. I'll buy them if they suit me."

The older sister, who was knitting a sweater enthusiastically, had to put down her work, stand up and rub her waist, and took a mirror over: "Okay, which two? These two, okay, I'll take them out and you can try."

Following Xiang Meimei's instructions, the elder sister took out the earrings and ring and put them on her: "Come here, little girl, let me help you put them on."

The earring is a small five-petal flower, which my eldest sister said is a peach blossom, and the ring is a plain ring with no pattern.

After taking a look at Meimei, she asked Chen Wei with satisfaction in her eyes, "What do you think?"
