Chapter 10 "The Little Policeman" "Brother Fox!" "Hey, my wife..."
Fengxia pulled out another mirror and applied mascara to her face. "By the way, Jianzi, has Chunlan been on a blind date lately? She's so old, is she even planning to settle down? Your master and she are old acquaintances. The red string on your wrist is a marriage rope I got for her..."
While comparing the testimonies from several parties, Jian Dieda noticed a discrepancy. He looked up and said, "The rope you asked for for Chunlan... that's not right. This red rope wasn't asked for by my master, was it?"
Who is lying?
Fengxia giggled, and she flirtatiously crossed her legs over her husband's second apprentice, her insteps dangling under her skirt.
As the high heels were removed, the woman with slender legs revealed that her toenails were painted with fashionable nail polish. She even lifted the heels, revealing five bright red toenails. Her closed toes resembled a blooming azalea, yet also exuded the poisonous scent of oleander.
The beautiful Mrs. Fengxia said in a humorous tone:
"You don't understand women's affairs. If I don't lie to her, why would she want my things? She can't stand me being prettier or having a better figure than her. It's a pity, she had suitors when she was young, but now she's stuck unmarried her whole life. It's really tragic. As women get older, it's so easy for people to gossip about them..."
Bai Fengxia was a great beauty, and her voice was like a flower, emanating a sweet fragrance that could stir one's thoughts. However, her speech made her charming face less beautiful.
And why does her right foot, which is wearing flesh-colored short stockings, keep deliberately touching me?
More interested in the gossip surrounding the Zhang and Li families, Jian Dieda's expressionless personality became even more closed off. Seeing that his teacher's wife was still going strong, he lashed out at Uncle Zhijie's legal wife: "I don't know if she wants to, but I want to know if you still want to remarry."
Bai Fengxia was taken aback.
Jian Dieda said in a serious tone, "Don't think that just because you're more than 20 years older than me, you have the right to pursue a happy retirement. I heard that the workers in the nearby factory often have ballroom dances. It's good for your joints to dance together, and you can even find a partner."
Bai Fengxia's face turned eggplant-colored with anger: "..."
Old lady!
Is this brat crazy?!
Jian Da is clearly a clueless blockhead; he would never have helped Chunlan before.
He learned to speak in a sarcastic or veiled manner, which made others suspect that he was being paranoid.
"Pah! You son of a bitch! You're a cunning bastard too," Bai Fengxia spat inwardly, touching her long, curly hair at her temples. "Oh... ever since your master passed away, I gave up on that idea. A woman is fine on her own..."
"Finding a partner to have children is extremely harmful to the body and will make my face age and become ugly. I don't care about that."
Bai Fengxia had indeed miscarried once before. Even the fox spirit's magic couldn't make her a mother that time, but she didn't seem to care.
oh.
Did Dong Zhijie and his wife disagree on this matter?
The husband was obsessed with having a son, and the woman seemed to be fixated on youth and appearance. Did the painful lesson of miscarriage make her resent Dong Zhijie?
Did Bai Fengxia secretly hope her husband would die soon?
Before ending his observation of Bai Fengxia without revealing his emotions, Jian Dieda set a trap for his teacher's wife: "Then let's not meddle in Chunlan's affairs. She's a woman too, and she's fine on her own. Why does she have to find a man?"
"Besides, she's never had a miscarriage."
"Don't you agree, Madam?"
If Jian Dieda were to describe Bai Fengxia's intense gaze resoundingly, it would be something like, "If she got a knife tonight, she would definitely cut herself into eighteen pieces."
Forgetting why she came in the first place, Bai Fengxia headed towards Hawthorn Alley to find Chunlan.
Knowing that the two women were likely to have a fight, Jian Dieda glanced at his quartz watch and deliberately slowed down before quietly heading to Chunlan's house.
As he approached the familiar courtyard gate, he pretended to notice that the clothesline hanging by the back window had fallen off, and walked towards the back gate.
Listening through the dog hole, he could hear two women exchanging cryptic remarks. Jian Dieda could tell that they were not compatible in anything they were doing.
Then, the women got serious.
What follows is essentially a one-sided attack by one person on another.
Bai Fengxia loudly mocked:
“Comrade Chunlan, no one will want you dressed like this. If you want to find a man, you should dress up a bit. How about this, considering your old relationship with Zhijie, I'll lend you some money to buy two bolts of cloth and have a tailor make two dresses for you, so you won't have to live like this, okay?”
The honest and unassuming Chunlan didn't say a word.
After an argument.
Bai Fengxia left, the brown, broken door slammed shut, and only the beautiful woman's fiery red skirt disappeared into the sunset.
Afterwards, Jian Dieda followed him out to the door. He saw the shadows of several old women blending into the gloom of the roof tiles. During the intervals between picking vegetables and cooking, the group was discussing the quarrel between the two women inside the house.
The faint sound coming from the corner of the alley seemed to be an old story from the era of educated youth sent to the countryside.
An old woman with a shriveled mouth started, "How could Chunlan possibly argue with a shrew? Look at how Bai Fengxia, that shrew, rushed in just now..."
"Yes, the two of them have been locked in a lifelong stalemate over Dong Zhijie."
"I still remember when Bai Fengxia married Dong Zhijie, Chunlan was so heartbroken that she ran outside the bridal chamber to watch the wedding."
The old ladies continued their story vividly:
"Back then, everyone was sent to the countryside together. Young men and women would go out together every day to cut pig feed and earn work points. Feelings would come easily. I heard that the main reason Chunlan was delayed for life was because Dong Zhijie's family didn't agree to the relationship."
"I heard that Dong Zhijie has been taking care of Chunlan all along."
“Yes, otherwise how could Jianda stay at the police station…”
These stories all revolve around the relationship between three men and women.
Taking advantage of the situation, the old ladies brought up another woman related to Dong Zhijie: "Has Bai Fengxia, that red fox, stopped riding in cars with all sorts of men lately?"
The others, embarrassed, scratched their faces and said, "Stop talking, it's disgracing the martyr. She's been like this since she was young. She used to be a prostitute, what people call a fallen woman. So the people in her house died unjustly. Maybe they were killed by her outsiders back then."
"She's a vixen! She must be keeping a fox spirit at home to be acting like this!"
Upon hearing this, Jian Dieda walked over and, without saying a word, showed his police ID and a pair of handcuffs.
The old women: "..."
After a verbal lecture from Jian Dieda, the old chatterbox finally shut up, though his expression clearly showed he hadn't given in.
Since following the mass line was ineffective, Jian Dieda took out a handful of candy and went out to distribute it to the children of this group.
The children playing in the mud on the roadside would immediately repeat whatever Jane Dieda asked them to say, as long as they had candy.
The old women looked grim as they heard their grandson shout at the top of his lungs, "As the great man said, women can hold up half the day! We must resolutely defend women and defeat these old zombies!"
The old feudalist fled with his vegetable basket.
--------------
In the second round, the scene changed to nighttime. Whether the murderer and his accomplice would pull off a combined attack depended on whether the police's judgment throughout the day was correct.
Police, please close your eyes.
Please wait in the darkness for new developments in the case today.
The duty room was silent at night, with only the occasional soft crowing of a rooster outside.
The young police officer on the night shift was slurping his noodles when he suddenly felt the spiciness of raw garlic in his mouth. He frantically drank water, and something touched his lips.
He initially thought it was his imagination, so he took the thermos and filled it with hot water. After drinking the whole thermos, his frozen body warmed up, and he felt a slight urge to urinate in his lower abdomen. He ran to the public toilet, but then felt someone watching him from behind the urinal.
Simple and easy methods are useless.
Startled, he scattered flowers like a fairy.
The person who was spying probably couldn't stand it anymore.
An unseen hand came to his aid.
"Shhh."
Someone whistled to urinate.
Jane paused, then said, "..."
The sound coming from the toilet in the middle of the night was so evocative, it felt like a young, unmarried woman about to cry. He was so frightened that he couldn't pull up his pants, his urine trembled as he urinated, and his face turned pale.
As fate would have it, Jian Dieda walked back numbly and heard the phone in the duty room ringing again. It was the first time he had ever called the police since he came into this world.
"I have impeccable revolutionary credentials, and I'm not afraid of ghosts."
Officer Jian sang the national anthem in his heart as he answered the phone: "This is 110."
The other person remained silent.
Jian Dieda resigned himself to his fate: "Brother Fox..."
Zhong Daxian said quietly, "Hey, my wife."
Jian Dieda knelt down: "..." Now is definitely not the time to sing "Liu Hai Cuts Firewood"!
A note from the author:
----------------------
"Liu Hai Chopping Wood" lessened Jianjianzi's fear of being stabbed, hahaha.
