The Knot (Part 3)

The Knot (Part 3)

He Shu quickly reacted and couldn't help but reach out his hand and gently poked the forehead of the boy in front of him with a hint of anger:

"You little brat, why are you so curious about this? She's not your wife! Go away, don't get involved in this nonsense, little kid."

"I'm just curious..."

He Shu pushed Cang Jue lightly, and the young man immediately covered his forehead, pursed his lips, and lowered his eyes. He was thinking about something alone, and an aggrieved aura of being bullied emanated from his whole body.

“Tsk…”

He Shu looked at him like this, clicked his tongue in annoyance, but his heart softened a little.

He knew that even a cold-hearted and cold-faced person like Sang Li, after spending some time with him, became almost obedient to this guy. He must have some extraordinary "tricks" that made it impossible for him to harden his heart.

As expected, this is a wronged thing, and there is really nothing we can do about him.

"I didn't mean to hide it from you..."

He softened his tone and explained helplessly:

"The bride is still wearing a veil, very tightly. I've never seen this Miss Bai before, so how do I know what she looks like underneath? Please don't embarrass me..."

However, seeing that Cangjue still had his head slightly lowered, with that aggrieved look of "I'm still very curious but I won't say it", the remaining half of Heshu's persistence collapsed.

He turned his head and glanced at the center of the main hall, where the wedding ceremony was still going on. The two newlyweds, holding red silk in their hands, bowed to each other in the chanting of the ceremonial officer, their movements solemn and pious.

When the ceremonial officer's final words, "The ceremony is over, escort you to the bridal chamber—" rang out loudly, he saw the silly yet genuine happy smile that was almost overflowing from the face of the groom Bai Ziming.

He Shu couldn't help but lower his eyes, and a gentle smile involuntarily flowed from his lips, with a blessing:

"But... I think the bride must be beautiful..."

He paused, his eyes seeming to see something permanent through the clamor before him, and his voice was gentle and certain:

"She may not be stunningly beautiful, but in the eyes of the groom who truly loves her and holds her hand in his vows, amidst the blessings of all the guests today, in this happy moment, every bride in the world should be the most beautiful and moving woman in the world."

Cangjue seemed to understand what he said, but he still nodded seriously, as if he wanted to remember this principle in his heart.

After the wedding ceremony, the bride was carefully supported by two bridesmaids, one on each side, and taken to the bridal chamber in the east wing to rest.

The crowd watching the ceremony also became agitated. Some followed the newlyweds to the east wing, while more of them chatted and laughed as they rushed to the front yard where the banquet table had already been set up.

Qingshan, along with several elders of the Bai family, accompanied the newlyweds and walked towards the inner courtyard.

He Shu's gaze subconsciously followed the light red figure. When he saw him turn around and leave, he pulled Cang Jue without thinking and followed him among the crowd.

The two of them walked through a carved moon-shaped door. Seeing Qingshan and several people from the Bai family walking in front, he hurriedly pulled Cangjue and hid behind a huge Taiping jar, hiding his body in the shadow of the jar and the corner of the wall.

"Brother He...we are—"

Cangjue was confused by his sudden and covert move. Before he could finish his words, someone quickly covered his mouth with a hand.

"Shhhhhh!"

He Shu nervously signaled him not to speak, then cast a spell to transmit his voice. His anxious voice echoed in Cang Jue's mind:

"Keep your voice down, don't let anyone find out! We're following secretly now!"

He put his index finger to his lips, made a gesture of silence, shook his head, and glanced vigilantly in the direction of the crowd. After confirming that no one noticed the two "sneaky" guys, he quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

"What are we going to do now?"

Cangjue's voice, filled with doubt, sounded in his mind.

He Shu was stunned by the question, and his hands, which were pressed against the cold wall of the tank, froze.

He had just followed in a fit of rage, relying on an inexplicable impulse. He himself couldn't figure out what he wanted to do, or who he wanted to follow or what he wanted to confirm.

He lowered his eyes and pondered for a while, then came up with a reasonable-sounding excuse, trying to fool the innocent boy beside him who should be easy to deceive:

"Ahem... well, well... wasn't it, wasn't it that I was thinking of bringing you to see the bride? Although she'll be covered during the ceremony, maybe you'll get a chance to see her true face on the way to the bridal chamber?"

As he spoke, he turned around and looked at the group again, only to find that many of the family members who had come to escort the bride had stopped and were walking back in twos and threes. He quickly pulled Cang Jue back behind the Taiping jar, trying his best to reduce his presence.

"But……"

Cangjue's voice was filled with a hint of innocent confusion.

“I can’t see…”

“…”

He Shu was speechless for a moment, feeling that his excuse was about to run out, but at this moment, he noticed from the corner of his eye that Qingshan was not among the returning crowd. He quickly stuck his head out again, his eyes quickly swept across the front, and finally fixed on the three people standing at the door of the east wing.

It was Qingshan, Bai Ziming, and the bride who should have been sent to the bridal chamber and was now standing at the door.

"Oh, I saw it, so I can describe it to you!"

He quickly followed up on what he said before, saying it casually, while patting Cang Jue who was still squatting beside him with a look of confusion on his face.

"Stay here and don't make any noise or move. If you sense anyone approaching, notify me immediately. Do you understand?"

Before he finished speaking, and without waiting for Cangjue's response, Heshu dodged lightly and leaped onto the low wall beside him silently like a nimble cat. Then he pointed his toes and hid his figure behind the shadow of the eaves extending from the wing room.

He carefully adjusted his position, held his breath, pricked up his ears, and tried his best to eavesdrop on the conversation below.

"Sir, thank you so much for coming here today."

The groom Bai Ziming's slightly apologetic voice was the first to sound, clearly reaching He Shu's ears.

"Before...before, my aunt used some dishonorable means to trick you into coming to the mansion in order to recognize your relatives. I thought...you definitely didn't want to have anything to do with the Bai family anymore."

"Brother Ziming, don't worry about it."

Qingshan's gentle voice followed, as calm and steady as ever.

"Ultimately, you and Sister Qiaochun are not to blame for this matter. I came here today to congratulate you, not because of an invitation from the Bai Mansion or out of any concern for blood ties. I came here of my own accord to bless you two."

When He Shu, who was hiding behind the eaves, heard this, his heart moved slightly. He couldn't help but stick his head out a little bit, wanting to see Qingshan's expression clearly when he spoke.

As soon as he revealed half of his face, he felt Qingshan's gaze seemed to be vaguely sweeping towards his hiding place.

His heart started to panic, and he immediately took half a step back like a frightened rabbit, completely hiding his body behind the shadow of the eaves, and even his breathing became lighter.

"My dear brother and sister Qiaochun are a perfect match, it is a fate sent by heaven."

The voice of Qingshan continued to come, with sincere blessings,

"May you two enjoy a thousand years of flourishing life and a hundred years of joyful music."

"Thank you for your kind words, sir!"

Bai Ziming's voice was filled with gratitude. Just as he finished speaking, an unfamiliar female voice rang out. The tone was gentle and soft, like the gurgling of a spring stream. It must be the bride, Bai Qiaochun, speaking:

"I have been unfortunate, having grown up without a father or brothers to rely on, and my mother is frail and ill, making it difficult for me to take care of her. Although there have been many disagreements between you and my uncle and aunt... you have been willing to put aside your past grudges and come to my aid, fulfilling my wish to complete the rites of marriage. I am truly... deeply grateful."

Her voice trembled slightly, with an uncontrollable sob.

"Sister Qiaochun, you are too kind."

Qingshan's voice gradually became lower, as if he was recalling some past events, and there was a hint of complex emotion in his tone.

"To be honest, my adoptive father has also passed away due to illness. In this world, I have no relatives, only the one I love... What I'm doing today is a kind of comfort to me. Carrying you on my back to get married... It's like I'm participating in a family celebration. I also want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to experience this warmth."

"If you don't mind, you can treat me as your brother from now on. If you encounter difficulties in the future, just say so and I will do my best to help you."

The three people at the door of the wing room whispered a few more words, which were nothing more than some thanks and instructions. Soon, the bride Bai Qiaochun entered the bridal chamber with the help of the matchmaker, while Qingshan and Bai Ziming turned side by side and walked towards the banquet in the front yard.

Seeing this, Heshu quickly jumped down from behind the eaves quietly, and first quickly returned to the Taiping jar, and helped Cangjue, who was still squatting behind the jar, nervous and motionless.

Afterwards, without bothering to explain further, he pulled his people and quietly followed the footsteps of the two people in front, staying behind them at a distance not too far away.

He was concentrating on trying to hear what Qingshan and Bai Ziming were talking about, but Cangjue's somewhat stubborn question rang out in his mind again:

"How is it, Brother He, have you seen the bride's appearance clearly? What does she...look like?"

"oops……"

He Shu's mind was completely focused on the two people in front of him. He followed Qing Shan closely. Seeing him chatting and laughing with Bai Ziming, he was really curious about the content of their conversation. He had no intention of answering Cang Jue's question and could only give a vague reply.

"It's just... it's just two eyes, a nose, and a mouth... probably, probably looks similar to you!"

"Hey, does he look like me?"

Cang Jue didn't realize that it was a perfunctory remark, but took it seriously. He lowered his head and pondered in confusion.

"But I'm a man..."

He suddenly remembered something and continued to ask:

"By the way, Brother He!"
