0006 Jealousy (2)
Lingling arrived at the Normal University campus close to 10 o'clock.
When he woke up, Wanqi Fuze was not by his side.
It was raining today, the road conditions were bad, and it was a weekday, so traffic jams were inevitable. Fortunately, Wanqi Fuze's new driver was a long-time resident of B City, which allowed her to clock in smoothly.
To this day, she still doesn't understand why that person built the house in such a remote place, forcing her to get up an hour earlier every day.
She studied at Beijing Normal University for her undergraduate degree. He Lingling has never been a person with lofty ideals. After graduating from her undergraduate studies, she took the postgraduate entrance examination as well as others. Since it was easy to get into her own university, she chose to apply there. At least compared to her family member who started his own business before graduating from Tsinghua University and still had to review reports in the early hours of the morning, and whose net worth is now unknown, she was a good-for-nothing who was just wasting her life.
After graduating with her master's degree, He Lingling stayed on to teach at the university, working as a lecturer in the Marketing Department. If there's a hierarchy of academic majors, then marketing is almost at the bottom compared to the university's flagship and most popular majors. There are few classes on weekdays, and the content learned in class is vastly different from actual work. Therefore, many students choose this major simply to pass the final exams and graduate easily. Even those who genuinely want to excel in this major focus more on internships at companies.
Therefore, at the Normal University, this is truly a major focused on aging. It's also the place He Lingling carefully chose, the one most suitable for her to slack off in.
This semester, her workload wasn't heavy; she taught two elective courses, four classes a week. Two classes were for students in her own major, and two for students from other majors. It was simply because Professor He from the School of Economics and Management was renowned far and wide—fair-skinned, beautiful, and not only gorgeous, but also like a bodhisattva; in her two years of teaching, her failure rate had remained at zero. Since electives didn't count towards GPA, why not go and get some credits while also getting a close look at a beauty?
Therefore, every year on course selection day, many energetic young men from engineering schools would be waiting on the official website of the Academic Affairs Office at midnight to grab courses.
Therefore, although He Lingling was teaching a course on water-related topics, it wasn't exactly an unpopular subject.
Today's students were from the School of Hydraulic Engineering and the School of Engineering. The lecture hall, which could hold about three hundred people, was packed to capacity, and almost three-quarters of the seats were filled with boys. He Lingling knew exactly what was going on, and after adjusting the PowerPoint presentation, she began the lesson.
Lingling was dressed in a black formal suit today, with a Mon Premier Galop scarf casually tied around her neck to cover the bite marks left by Wanqi Fuze the night before. She opened her textbook and habitually pressed the sore spot on her neck with her left hand. She hadn't had time to put on makeup because she overslept, but even with minimal makeup, she looked beautiful. Her fair skin, paired with pearl earrings, made her appear even more serene and charming, captivating a group of male college students.
The marketing case study served as a starting point, connecting the key theoretical points. The lesson was engaging and thought-provoking. Although He Lingling seemed to be taking it easy, she was actually quite diligent in class, meticulously preparing her lesson plans and completing all the necessary tasks. This impressed the students, who realized she was more than just a pretty face.
However, a small incident still occurred just before the end of class.
Since Lingling decided to end the course with a paper, it would reduce the failure rate. On the other hand, it would be an overreaction to bother the academic affairs office to arrange exams for an elective course that doesn't count towards GPA. So, she simply continued her usual style and accepted that a paper was all that was needed to pass the course, leaving more time for students to review their major courses.
After He Lingling told everyone about this assessment method, the students in the classroom shouted "Long live the teacher!" She smiled and pretended to be calm and understanding, but in reality, she was eager to leave get out of class so she could rush to grab the boiled fish for the second meal.
Suddenly, a boy sitting in the back row of the classroom stood up and faced her: "Teacher, could you please give me your contact information? How am I supposed to submit my paper if you don't tell me?"
The boys were naturally a bit mischievous, and everyone knew that this was ostensibly a homework assignment, but secretly an attempt to woo the teacher. When the boy in the back shouted, the room erupted in cheers.
He Lingling lowered her head, picked up her pen, and wrote her email address on the whiteboard without changing her expression.
Then, smiling, she turned to the boys in the back row and said, "This student asked a very good question. This is my personal email address. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have."
Suddenly she closed her notebook and said seriously, "However, this student still needs to learn more about the art of respecting teachers and elders."
Although He Lingling was among the youngest teachers at the university, compared to these troublesome undergraduates, she was practically a seasoned veteran. Having worked in B City for two years, she had encountered her fair share of targeting from other teachers and disrespect from students. She understood long ago that kindness was good, but boundless tolerance would result in being neither valued nor respected. Besides, that guy in class just now was truly rude.
She didn't realize that she was becoming more and more like a certain grumpy young master.
Thinking this, she unexpectedly ran into the same boy again on campus.
Hey, you're still haunting me!
She was about to put on a serious expression to scare her away when the person in front of her shut her up with an apology.
The boy introduced himself as Guan Kai, a soccer player on the school team. He had admired her for a long time, and he had lost his composure in class because he was too excited.
He Lingling wasn't going to waste too much breath arguing with him. Besides, she thought that admitting mistakes was a good thing, so she didn't hold it against him and told him to hurry up and eat.
To her surprise, Guan Kai not only didn't let her leave, but also inconsiderately invited her to lunch, saying he wanted to discuss the knowledge points she didn't understand in class.
It was just a thesis proposal class, only covering an introduction; what could be unclear about that? Hearing this, He Lingling realized that the boy named Guan Kai had ulterior motives.
She had no choice but to give the student in front of her a good talking-to. Just then, a voice called out "Teacher He" from not far away. It was Zhao Xiaojing, who was only two years older than her and also in the School of Management.
Feeling both hungry and tired, Lingling simply pointed to Xiaojing to indicate that she already had an appointment, then took a few big steps forward and took Zhao Xiaojing's arm.
P.S.: There's one more chapter today.
