0008 Jealousy (4)
He Lingling hadn't seen Wan Qifuze for over a week.
Wanqi Fuze was indeed quite busy with work, with many social engagements and business trips. In the early years when they first lived together, Wanqi's business had not yet taken off, and even though he was a pampered young master at home, he still had to drink and smile when he went out.
Although Lingling disliked Wanqi, she admired him for this. He never relied on his family connections; he was tough and a true northerner.
But it was during that time that my health was ruined by drinking.
At that time, he wasn't very wealthy, and the two of them lived in a small duplex apartment in the Third Ring Road. For some reason, he never liked to take money from his family for his own use. Therefore, when Lingling learned a bit about his family situation from others, she was surprised but also admired the backbone of this precious young master.
If it were her, she would have gone back to inherit the family fortune long ago.
In the dead of night, he would always get completely drunk and open the door to his house.
At that time, Lingling was still an undergraduate student, kept at home by him, and couldn't live on campus. She had a huge fight with him, but he just wouldn't allow it. But in reality, the two of them wouldn't see each other for days at a time. During the day, she would be at school before he woke up, and he would only come back at night after she had fallen asleep.
Strangely enough, she wasn't a heavy sleeper, yet he never woke her up.
She often woke up to find him curled up on the sofa, still dressed, asleep. This nearly 1.9-meter-tall man, huddled on a single sofa downstairs, without a blanket, looked like a pitiful stray cat. That was when their relationship was at its worst, and when she hated him the most.
She couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart. She should have been gloating, but for some reason, she wasn't as happy as she had imagined. She only remembered that it was almost the thinnest period she had ever seen him—he was getting thinner and thinner almost day by day—but he was still handsome.
He woke her up only once.
As graduation approached, she was so busy with her thesis that she was completely disoriented, her sleep quality was poor, and she was in a bad mood. She finally managed to fall asleep for a while when suddenly a cold hand was placed on her face; no one could tolerate that in the dead of winter.
She opened her eyes to a familiar face. They hadn't seen each other for five or six days, and looking at him under the starlight, she felt a sudden sense of familiarity mixed with strangeness.
He was also staring at her with his eyes open. The difference was, his eyes were bloodshot. Lingling felt a tightness in her chest; for some reason, her heart seemed to skip a beat.
She knew he was very drunk.
Lingling knew from high school that Wanqi Fuze had a very good drinking manner. He didn't get drunk easily, and even when he did, he wouldn't make a fuss, he would just quietly watch you... However, he was a little different when he was drunk than usual.
As for what was different, she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Perhaps he had temporarily forgotten about that cold, sharp edge, and put it away, making him seem... less repulsive.
Thinking this, she felt that the mole at the corner of his eye became more and more lively and alluring, and a certain part of her body also changed.
She was the first to speak.
But before she could finish her "You...", her lips were silenced by the person in front of her. Compared to his cold hands and unwarm heart, his warm tongue brought in the aroma of fine Burgundy, making her feel intoxicated.
But she knew she couldn't get drunk; there were just too many things separating them.
She composed herself, determined to be on high alert even when facing his vulnerable side.
She pushed him away and saw that his red eyes held a mixture of grievance and confusion, something he would never show to anyone when he was sober.
"Get away." She turned over. She couldn't bear to face him like this anymore.
The silvery moonlight streamed in, making Lingling feel a little chilly.
The person behind her remained still for a moment, and she almost thought he had fallen asleep, but then a pair of hands encircled her waist.
Someone is getting closer. Closer and closer.
His head was pressed against the back of her neck, his soft hair intertwining with her long hair.
Wanqi Fuze was much taller than her, but when he curled up behind her like this, he looked more like the one who needed to be protected.
"...Baby, I miss you so much..."
It was almost a whisper, the kind of murmur only lovers exchange. A tremor ran through her; something shattered within her, while something else echoed in her mind—
It was the sound of slamming brakes, the impact, the blood and gore, the nightmarish screams...
One sound after another was a pulling motion, a warning to pull back from the brink.
She turned abruptly and pushed away the person behind her, filled with intense hatred.
She heard the sound of Wanqi falling off the bed, and a muffled groan that was muffled. She should be satisfied with that, but why did her heart ache so much?
Tears slid down her cheeks, quickly turning cold.
It's definitely not enough.
"You're disgusting. I'd be happy if you were dead."
She rarely said such harsh words. Later, when she looked back, she realized that almost all the cold words she had uttered in her life had been directed at Wanqi Fuze.
Why was she experiencing unbearable pain in every limb and bone? She pulled the covers over her head. After a long while, a door opened, and all was silent.
She didn't sleep all night.
Wanqi Fuze and she returned to a state where they rarely saw each other, even less often than before. After that day, even the person who came to collect the documents was a young man named Zhiwen.
Zhiwen respectfully addressed her as "Miss He." Seeing that he seemed hesitant to speak, she couldn't help but think sarcastically, "He has so many dogs, but so little money."
However, she had worried that he was too drunk that night and had forgotten what she had said. That was one of the few times she had gained the upper hand, and she couldn't let it lose all its power. It would be best to plunge that sword deeper, leaving him covered in blood and flesh, so she could feel better.
She didn't know that what she longed for him to remember was precisely what he couldn't forget, even if he wanted to.
He hated that his memory was too good, that even being drunk didn't affect it. Countless nights, every word she uttered, along with the tone of her voice, echoed and clamored in his mind over and over again.
After that, Lingling never heard anything from Wanqi Fuze about work again. Even when he went on business trips, he would disappear every few days.
Perfect, she finally has some peace and quiet. She wishes he would never come back, so she could have her freedom back.
Thinking this, she took the elevator to the parking lot. She planned to go back to D Province in a couple of days. She had just bought some gifts for her parents and Shen Yan at the mall and was about to return to school.
It's really weird. Not far from her car, there stood that figure she hadn't seen in a long time.
He hadn't even taken off his trench coat.
He didn't see her, but she saw him, and he could clearly see the person next to him who had kissed his cheek.
He Lingling pressed the key, the car lights came on, and the car made two impressive noises.
Two pairs of eyes turned to her from a short distance away. She ignored them both, got into her car, and drove off with a flourish.
P.S.: A new character has arrived!
I love writing about the two of them being together, but the plot has to move forward. I, for one, can't wait to see them get married; I've already come up with names for their kids.
This chapter has a little highlight, hehe.
Please leave a comment, my wives!
