0032 Wedding Events (3)

Passing through the covered walkway, late autumn red maple leaves lazily hang on the stone frame.

A milky white kitten crept over, crunching on the fallen leaves, and then, upon recognizing the person, secretly hid behind a stone pillar.

It has a ginger-yellow patch on its round little head, and its eyes are filled with watery mist like grapes. Its soft paws seem to reach forward but then retreat.

The man smiled gently, reached out and pulled it into his arms.

The kitten first scratched fearfully at his chest, then a large paw covered its small body, almost enveloping it completely, to soothe it. The little rascal was a bully who preyed on the weak; seeing that the person in front of him was tall but his hands were all gentle, it meowed twice defiantly.

Wanqi Fuze chuckled softly, only to hear a call from outside the corridor, spoken in a southern accent.

"Is that Xiao Yao?"

Wanqi Fuze quickened his pace and saw Sun Lianping with a beaming smile.

He smiled and responded.

Sun Lianping was about to take the coat from Wan Qifuze's arm when she saw the kitten he was holding and patted its head with a smile.

The cat meowed in displeasure, jumped off Wanqi Fuze's arms, hid behind Sun Lianping's legs, and looked at him timidly.

Sun Lianping scolded, "You haven't been here for almost half a year, even Jiaojiao doesn't recognize you anymore!"

Wanqi Fuze led the nearly seventy-year-old, short and plump woman beside him forward.

He didn't expose her. Jiaojiao was the kitten he raised when he was little, and this little one was a kitten Jiaojiao gave birth to two years ago.

Wanqi Fuze's grandmother was from a family in Jiangnan. Sun Lianping married into the family when she was young. Wanqi Fuze's grandmother was frail and sickly from childhood and passed away early. Sun Lianping stayed and spent most of her life in the Wanqi family, now taking care of her grandfather. Although she was a servant, her seniority commanded respect even from the younger generation of the Wanqi family.

Wanqi Fuze noticed that Sun Lianping had some memory problems, so he coaxed her by saying that he would accompany her to get a comprehensive physical examination one day.

Sun Lianping scolded him, calling him a brat who only knew how to waste money.

Wan Qifuze replied with a smile, "The company has a partnership with a private hospital, and all the slots we gave away were wasted. You'll have to make sure the hospital pockets all the profits for me."

Sun Lianping burst into laughter at his words: "Our little one is really capable!"

Wanqi Fuze was too tall, so when he carried her forward, he took even smaller steps. The old lady still treated him like a child, just as she had twenty years ago.

What does it matter? The warmth among his family is what he cherishes most in his life, and it is also one of the few things he has ever had.

Seeing that only a few withered duckweed remained in the fishpond in front of the living room, he casually asked a question.

As Sun Lianping collected his clothes, she complained to him, "Sir has a terrible temper these days!"

Wanqi Fuze couldn't help but laugh out loud. Following the custom from her youth, Grandma Sun had always addressed the old man as "Sir" without changing her ways.

Grandpa never had a bad temper. Years ago, when he was still quite healthy, he kicked Wan Qibo to the ground right in front of this little kid. Wan Qibo, on the verge of tears, cried out, "Can't you give me some face in front of my wife and son?" The old man replied with a booming voice, "It's my loss of face to have such a good-for-nothing son who can't even lead his troops!"

Over the years, Sun Lianping was the only one in the entire Wan family who could or dared to banter with the old man.

Sun Lianping handed him ginger tea to warm him up, then sat down next to him to list the old man's crimes. Before she even started, she laughed.

They said it was getting cold, and the old man complained that they were wasting money because the air conditioning was on all day. Then he started talking about crossing the grasslands in the old days, how many people froze to death, and how difficult it was to start a fire. Suddenly, out of nowhere, he insisted that everyone turn off the air conditioning in the whole room.

When asked what he wanted, the old man became stubborn and said, "Start a fire!"

This put everyone in a difficult position. The old man was already quite old and couldn't withstand any more disturbances, and now he insisted on reminiscing about lighting a fire in the room.

Sun Lianping laughed uncontrollably as she spoke, gesturing with her hands to explain that the younger family nurse was arguing with the husband about things like oxygen and carbon for starting a fire, which she couldn't understand. The husband has always been stubborn, and you know how loud your grandfather always is, which made the girl's eyes well up with tears, but she didn't dare say much to him.

The scene described by Grandma Sun seemed vivid in his mind, and Wanqi Fuze smiled as he drank his tea.

"Guess who cured him in the end?" Wanqi Fuze shook his head cooperatively. Sun Ma patted his leg and said with a smile, "Your second aunt! The first thing she did when she got home was to turn on the air conditioning in all the rooms. We were freezing for those two days and had to wear coats at home. The second young lady somehow got hold of a lamp shaped like a brazier. When it was plugged in, the flame looked just like a real one, and it wasn't hot to the touch. It really saved our whole family's lives!"

"The funniest part was yet to come. The second young lady was still as mischievous as when she was a child. She ran into the master's room and asked him if he was warm. The master immediately pinched her ear and scolded her, 'You brat, you're making a fool of me!' The whole family burst into laughter!"

Sun Lianping brought that smile to his face, making him feel bright and cheerful all over.

"Don't let your age fool you, sir. Your eyesight may be failing, but your mind is sharp. You see things very clearly!"

Wanqi Fuze nodded and said, "Yes."

Sun Lianping then told him to wait until the master woke up and go check on him, as the old man had been nagging him for days. After saying that, she went to the kitchen to check on the soup.

There were voices nearby, and Wanqi Fuze's phone lit up.

Sophie's text message contained three exclamation marks.

—Hurry, come out and help!

Wanqi Fuze put the clothes he had just put away back on.

Sophie never expected that she would get into an argument with the guard. She was a little tyrant who grew up in this area. How come she was not allowed to go home even after being abroad for several years?

After all her attempts to reason with him failed, she had no choice but to call for help. She texted Wanqi Fuze and then sat down on the steps by the door, just three feet away from the guard who had just been stern with her.

The guards remained unmoved.

But to my surprise, the door opened just two minutes after I sat down.

A silver car drove up, and a beautiful, slender hand reached out.

Bai Tijiang spotted a pitiful little dog squatting at the door from afar, and he smiled as he parked his car in front of it. Behind his glasses were a pair of smiling, almond-shaped eyes.

"Are you coming with your brother or not?"

Sophie kicked the car door, and the tip of her shoe scratched the car.

Bai Tijiang didn't seem distressed at all. Instead, he got out of the car, put his arm around her waist, and faced the guard: "My girlfriend."

Sophie kicked again.

He laughed out loud, and Wanqi Fuze walked over from not far away.

He noticed Bai Tijiang's expression change when he saw his hand on Sophie's waist.

Suddenly I understood why this guy didn't ask me to invest in his clinic; he didn't want to be indebted to someone.

He lit a cigarette and looked at Bai Tijiang with an unfriendly expression.

He took a few steps forward, took Sophie's hand, and gently pulled her into his arms.

His eyes lingered on Bai Tijiang, but he called out "Sophie" to her.

"sister."

The guards, realizing who the individuals were, opened the security barrier.

Sophie shoved the two people next to her aside and sneered, "Get out of my way, both of you."

Behind her, a head of soft, dazzling waves swayed gracefully with her steps.

Bai Tijiang hadn't had enough of looking at Wan Qiqi; his eyes were still glued to him.

Wanqi Fuze kicked out, and unlike Wanqi Qi's playful kick just now, this time it almost made Bai Tijiang fall flat on his face.

Bai Tijiang covered his glasses: "What the hell, buddy? That's not fair!"

Wanqi Fuze didn't look at him; his mind was filled with the thought that the cabbage he raised had been stolen by the neighbor's pig. The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, and he smacked him again, "Get away from me."

P.S.: Sophie: My dear Lingling, I'm your husband's older sister.
