0089 (1)

0089 Stealing the Stars (1)

Despite the intense pain, I rolled off the bed and crawled to the door.

Perhaps my blood was already soaking the sheets, because I could smell the strong stench of blood filling the small room. I even felt my life slipping away amidst the excruciating pain... If this had happened six years ago, this feeling would have made me laugh out loud.

I seem to have grasped this philosophy of life even when I was still a child—perhaps dying is easier than living…especially dying at the hands of one’s own loved ones…

I pressed my ear against the gleaming mahogany door, but I couldn't hear my father's voice.

In the dead of night, the moon was finally bright and the stars were few.

The clock in the room ticked away; there were still fifteen minutes left...

Perhaps the wound had caused inflammation; I knew clearly that I had a high fever. My mind was somewhat clouded by the fever, so I lay on the wooden floor and began to have incoherent, random thoughts.

I wonder if I had a child, a child with Lingling, and he made a mistake, would I be as cruel as his father and beat him with a stick...?

I was kneeling in front of my mother's portrait when my father swung the stick at me, biting my lip tightly. I didn't make a sound until he knocked me to the ground and overturned a table.

I think my father truly hated me to the extreme; at that moment, he really wanted me dead...

This kind of empathetic thinking makes it easy for me to forgive my father. If my child had harmed Lingling, I don't think I would want him to live either...

I couldn't tell my dad that I wanted to pay for my mom and brother's lives more than he did... if I could... but I couldn't right now. I rushed back to find Lingling, who was still waiting for me there. I crawled slowly, almost slower than a snail, toward the window because I could barely move.

When my father beat me, he would target my vital points, and my legs hurt so much that I could hardly stand up.

But I needed to escape this place—my former home—before the night guards changed shifts in fifteen minutes. I jumped from the second floor, or rather, rolled down, and landed on the relatively soft lawn below the window. The impact was so strong that I felt like my bones were shattered, but I held back my cries of pain.

I have indeed committed heinous crimes, perhaps the most absurd thing I have ever done in my eighteen years of living within these high walls and courtyards.

But I found that despite all this pain, I felt lighter than anyone else.

I must admit, it wasn't me who saved Shenyan, it was Lingling who saved me. Without her, I wouldn't know what I wanted or what I couldn't stand.

On the day I left J City, I rushed back to B City and knelt in front of the Guan family's door for the entire night.

I know what Lingling wants, and I will ask for whatever she wants.

I knew Grandpa would be furious, and I was prepared to accept the punishment, but I needed to get back to J City first to settle Lingling in. Unexpectedly, my father arrived first, and I was stopped at the airport security checkpoint by several men in military uniforms.

I think it was this opportunity that made me realize that the road ahead would not be easy, but once I made the decision, there was no turning back, and I was willing to never look back.

I can't tell Lingling about Guan Yue's imprisonment. It's best to keep it from her for a long, long time, until she stops hating me, until Grandpa is willing to forgive me, until Guan Yue is released from prison, until... Even though I know in my heart that when I take this uncertain step, the destination may be very far away, or even non-existent.

I'm willing to wait... as long as I can have her by my side.

I took the last flight of the night to J City. I knew it was a journey with an uncertain future, but I was determined to see Lingling that night…
