0100 Survival (2)
Bai Tijiang and Sophie bickered and joked all the way, wanting to go together to visit Wanqi Fuze's current residence.
Sophie remained expressionless, ignoring Dr. Bai's playful grin. Ever since he inadvertently revealed that he had known about Fuze's illness for a long time but hadn't told her, Sophie had been giving him the cold shoulder for almost half a month.
Dr. Bai may feel disappointed, but he will not be discouraged. His best way to deal with this young lady is through the eight-year war of resistance.
Because of Wanqi Fuze's illness, an elevator was recently installed in this four-story old-style villa. This modern addition seems somewhat out of place inside.
The two of them paused for a moment after exiting the elevator, unable to help but stop in their tracks.
The long corridor directly in front of us is bright and clean, a far cry from the gray and gloomy color that used to be so dark that even the overhead lights couldn't cover it. The heavy and huge curtains that used to be there have been "destroyed" by someone, and the view behind them is now fully visible, with even the distant mountains in sight.
Turning the corner, the room at the end of the corridor was no longer shrouded in darkness, but instead shone with pure and clean sunlight.
A series of giggles, like silver bells, emanated from the room, interspersed with a few weak interruptions from a young man, seemingly tinged with anger, yet his words, though clearly reprimands, carried a tone of utter pleading.
Sophie was about to push the door open when she saw the two people in the room having a good time, so she withdrew her outstretched hand.
Bai Tijiang, puzzled, asked from the side, "What's wrong?"
But then Sophie put her index finger to her lips, glared at him with displeasure, and then tugged at his sleeve to leave quickly.
Bai Tijiang's initial doubts vanished instantly because of her actions, and he stuck to her like a leech, grinning broadly.
Sophie wasn't sure when she first decided to meet He Lingling.
Although she didn't know everything, she knew there was some entanglement between He Lingling and Xiao Yao. Otherwise, she knew that Xiao Yao would have married her long ago, given his personality. If her younger brother hadn't done something wrong, why would he have willingly left that girl by his side, watching her helplessly for ten years without making a move?
She was quite shocked to see her at the coffee shop. She knew men were visual creatures, but she hadn't expected her brother to like someone like this. She had seen Lingling before, but this was the first time she had been in close proximity to her. It wasn't that Lingling wasn't pretty—she was beautiful—but her demeanor was as pure and innocent as a child's.
She knew she had no leverage and was only trying her luck, so she specially prepared a check before coming. But after meeting her, she couldn't help but feel disgusted with her own vulgarity.
I just saw that scene outside the room. The way my younger brother acted next to Lingling was exactly like how he used to act spoiled and arrogant in front of our parents when he was little.
Her eyes stung, and her heart ached too.
Actually, she came to ask Lingling if she could persuade Fuze to have the surgery, but after seeing that scene, she suddenly felt it was unnecessary.
She believed that it wouldn't be long before Aze regained his will to live.
She realized she had found the right person and finally understood why Xiao Yao had remained devoted to this girl all these years...
He Lingling has successfully moved into Wanqi Fuze's room to recuperate using a "bitter trick" and is now ruling the place.
Aside from the hired servants and the doctor and nurses, they were the only two people in the entire mansion. Since there were no electronic devices, boredom was inevitable.
Since Lingling arrived, she has explored every fun spot in the area, and this morning she even found some hidden treasures in the room.
In fact, Fu Ze had been wary ever since Ling Ling started "touching" everything in the Western-style building. When he was little, his grandmother stayed here for a short time when she was sick. At that time, the whole family treated him like a little clown to make his sick grandmother happy, so he inevitably left behind some "dark history".
Although Lingling is a close friend... it would be too embarrassing if she saw something that was too drastic in terms of her image!
But no matter how much he tried to guard against it, Lingling wouldn't stay idle. Her little paws, touching left and right, eventually found the photo album between two large bookshelves.
He Lingling is just like a gluttonous cat seeing fish, her eyes practically gleaming.
He didn't dare to take it from her, so he could only let her lie on the bed all day, hugging that thick photo album and laughing.
She wasn't satisfied with watching it by herself; she had to drag him to lie down next to her, and while she watched, she wanted him to explain it to her.
So he started by talking about why he was crying loudly with cake stuffed in his mouth, and then he talked about how he was embarrassed to cry after falling down, and his mother found out, so he pouted and a big snot bubble popped out of his nose in grievance.
He watched as He Lingling went from chuckling and flipping through the pages with great interest, to laughing so hard she was pounding the bed and her stomach hurt, and finally, laughing, she pounced on him, pinched his nose, and said:
"How can you be so cute?"
He knew it was a joke, of course, so he gave her a sweet kiss that swallowed her laughter whole...
After laughing until they were exhausted, the two of them lay quietly on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
Lingling recalled the days when they studied together in J City, when she would spend her time idly on his big bed in his villa in J City, and it was the same scene.
"Aze, do you miss your mother?" she suddenly asked.
Just now, when the two of them were lying on the bed with their heads together, flipping through photo albums, they saw that dashing short-haired woman from the depths of time many times. That was Fuze's mother.
Fu Ze paused for a moment, then nodded seriously.
Lingling is a close person to him, and he is willing to share his unbearable feelings and experiences with her.
For him, longing was something he couldn't express aloud. Because if it weren't for him, Xu Yi wouldn't have passed away. So he felt a sense of baseness in his emotions.
Lingling is different; she is someone who is very good at expressing her emotions and feelings.
Just like now, she could tell him very directly:
“If you don’t obediently go for treatment, I will miss you just like you do.”
He was taken aback for a moment, then smiled.
He's been avoiding the topic for the past few days; making decisions is never easy for him. Even giving up requires meticulous planning in every aspect, let alone making such a weighty decision as starting over.
He didn't know how to face a surgery with an uncertain probability, or how to face the uncertain second half of his life, but he also didn't know how to face He Lingling, who was "aggressive" with her eyes and actions.
Seeing that he "cleverly" muted his microphone again, Lingling wasn't discouraged and just continued talking about other things. She had known about Aze's stubbornness since the beginning of their relationship.
“I think your mother must love you very much,” Lingling said, flipping through the photos in her hand.
Wanqi Fuze stood quietly to the side, suddenly feeling a sense of powerlessness.
Lingling was unaware of the wrongdoings he had committed, so she naively believed they were a loving father and filial son. If she were to learn the truth one day, would she, like before, decisively abandon him after saying "I like you"?
For him, her going from loving him to hating him was like going from heaven to hell.
This sudden, familiar sense of loss quickly overwhelmed him, and he said with a touch of self-mockery, "What if I had killed my mother?"
He stared intently at her expression, masochistically trying to discern from the changes in her demeanor how wretched he was as a son in the eyes of others, especially in hers.
Sure enough, her eyes widened in surprise and bewilderment.
He thought she must be terrified, so he couldn't help but laugh self-deprecatingly.
If he could scare her away, he could save himself some effort.
"How could you think that?" she asked him gently, in a clear, watery voice, without any sense of invading his privacy.
“Sister Sophie told me about that…” She nestled into his arms and hugged him tenderly. “I know you must be very sad, but you have to think about how much your mother must love you to give up her life for you?”
Her voice was like a gentle knock on the door of his heart, opening a small crack. He knew she had been sent by Sophie, and his sister must have told her a lot of things, but he hadn't expected her to tell her even this.
"Have you ever considered that my sister might have embellished the things I did in order for you to persuade me to come here?"
He reverted to his cold demeanor, making her feel a sudden sense of distance.
But she knew his bad habits best; when he told her to leave, she clung even tighter.
"I know what you are like, and I'm right here. I can see you and I can touch you. I don't need to listen to what others say."
She reached out a small hand, pinched his nose, and gently twisted it left and right. "But guess why we tried so hard to persuade you, one by one?"
Why? Of course, it's because she loves him. Should she tell him she's heartbroken and worried terribly every moment, wishing she could drag him to the doctor immediately? Or should she tell him that she knows he's in pain at night and she sees him outside, because she also can't sleep all night?
Fortunately, she understood him. He had a strong sense of morality and liked to put himself last. He didn't want others to suffer for him, worried that if he couldn't be cured, he would hurt people, and also worried that if he were cured, he would be a burden to his family and to her...
She suddenly felt that her life in the Bound River was very tiring.
"Have I ever told you I love you, Ze?"
Her little eyes blinked playfully, trying to make him happy.
Her words were like a handful of snowflakes, pure white with a hint of pale blue, falling on his incredibly agitated heart. His heart felt heavy, and his eyes welled up with tears.
He finally turned around and hugged her tightly, and her sweet, soft lips pressed against his stubble-covered chin.
Both of their hearts were overflowing with joy.
"I always feel like I'm just barely surviving when I'm with you," he said sullenly.
Lingling replied, "I also feel that knowing you is like stealing your childhood. If it weren't for those accidents, I would never have met you."
"But aren't we all happy thieves?"
P.S.: Lingling: It's just mind control, a piece of cake.
