0102 Surviving (4)
99. Surviving by stealing a living (4)
He had been stingy and reluctant to seek medical help for so long when suddenly a room full of doctors and scholars appeared out of nowhere.
Lingling was absolutely furious with this idiot.
She was covered in red rashes and looked awful; was this person trying to expose her ugly state as soon as possible?
When asked, the final responses were all "extremely frustrated." Lingling watched as the man's face grew increasingly dark with frustration, threatening to unleash a torrent of abuse on the group of experts. After all, he was a major shareholder of this private hospital, someone even the owner relied on.
Poor He Lingling was already a patient, and she still had to patiently comfort another stingy person.
Unlike large hospitals that are always overcrowded and have poor conditions, her VIP ward had four nurses, and the living environment was first-class, so the person accompanying her didn't have to worry about not sleeping comfortably.
Wearing an oversized hospital gown, she jumped off the bed and ran barefoot towards someone whose face was still completely dark.
I didn't want to talk to her at first, but when I saw her stepping on the cold ground without shoes, I quickly pulled her into my arms.
He was wearing a long black trench coat over a matching turtleneck sweater, and even in a wheelchair, he looked very stylish.
She nestled happily into his broad, warm embrace, pressing her face against his clothes that still carried his warmth and scent, very consciously finding herself a comfortable spot.
She wanted to say something, but his embrace was so warm and comforting that all her recent worries and anxieties vanished in that moment. His strong heartbeat was right next to her ear, like the safe harbor she had been searching for after she lost consciousness.
Wasn't he the same? The moment he learned she was also ill, he nearly went mad. He hated his own stupidity; how could Lingling possibly be doing well with her trapped there, worrying about him day and night? He was also angry at his own carelessness; if he had been more observant, he would have noticed something amiss in Wan Qiqi's tone during their phone call, and wouldn't have only found out about Lingling's illness two days later. So, he frantically rushed from one hospital to another, from one life-or-death situation to another.
The physical exhaustion during this period was secondary; the mental strain was simply unbearable. On the way, he wondered if Lingling woke up each day with the same panic he felt now.
That was such immense pain that even he could hardly bear it.
Holding her injured body in his arms, nestled like a little bird, he finally felt at ease.
So how could I bear to say another bad word about her?
Perhaps the shadow cast by their previous breakup was too great, because even though they were only apart for two days, they both felt like they hadn't seen each other for a long time.
Therefore, they all cherished this moment of tenderness.
Even if they just quietly lean on each other without saying a word, they can draw the greatest comfort and strength from each other.
Lingling suddenly raised her little head and asked him with a sad look, "Am I ugly now?"
He kissed her soft, full, cherry-like lips almost the instant she finished speaking, pried open her teeth, hooked her soft tongue, and only let go when she was flushed and pounding his chest because she was short of breath.
He watched her panting against his chest for less than two seconds before hooking her chin and pressing his lips to hers. He kissed her until she was completely overwhelmed with passion and forgot the question that had hurt him so much.
Doesn't she know he's driven mad with love for her? She actually asked him if he's become ugly...
Lingling's eyes were wet and red, with a hint of undisguised grievance.
He couldn't bear to see her suffer even a little, but this time, it was he who was making her sad...
He was afraid that he might say something wrong and make her cry, so he quickly and beautifully recounted the surgical plan that the doctor had mentioned that morning to her, as if presenting a treasure.
"The doctor said I was very lucky; the tumor was in a good location, making surgery very easy."
He talked about his illness as if it were some precious treasure, even praising it.
If he can make her laugh, what can't he do?
The situation was, of course, embellished; otherwise, his father's face wouldn't have been so dark, as if he wanted to beat him up again like he did a few years ago.
Aside from the relatively favorable location, there was almost no good news. The delay was too long, and a worsening of the condition was inevitable. The surgery date had been set for the earliest possible time, and the surgeon, Wan Qibo, had been brought in from the US through considerable connections.
If we really don't survive, then it's all up to fate.
But it was impossible for him to tell Lingling these things.
Looking into her eyes, which sparkled because of his words, he couldn't help but feel happy for her.
"You really agreed to have the surgery?" Lingling's tone was filled with barely concealed excitement.
He quickly nodded obediently.
He dares to die for her, but wouldn't he dare to live for her?
But then the girl got upset and grabbed his ear, pinching it until he grimaced.
"Looks like all those nice things I said to you weren't as effective as a beating from your dad, huh?"
The door was pushed open as soon as he finished speaking.
He Yundong was so dark-skinned that it was hard to look at him, and Zhao Mei was also a little embarrassed. Wan Qibo, who was standing behind him, had been leading soldiers all his life, and he couldn't stand being teased by his daughter-in-law for the first time.
Lingling, with her back to the door, hadn't even had a chance to turn around when she saw Fuze grinning from ear to ear, revealing a set of pearly white teeth.
P.S.: It's impossible for the next chapter to be the finale, because there are still some small plot points I want to include in the main story. I feel that the story won't be complete until everything that needs to be explained is revealed in the main story. So, let's use the extra chapters for sweet moments~
