Chapter 25 Farewell
Sui Yan became addicted to pretending to cry, and he couldn't stop crying until Song Xian ran away after being scared by Sui Xun.
Sui Xun carried him into the house, asked someone to bring some hot water and wiped his face with a towel, frowning and saying, "Don't cry."
Sui Yan sobbed and said, "I... I can't stop..."
Sui Xun: “…”
Sui Xun had no choice but to continue wiping his tears until Sui Yan finally stopped crying, his eyes were swollen.
Sui Xun frowned, not feeling sorry for him, and asked, "How old are you?"
Sui Yan's voice was hoarse, and he said hesitantly: "Fifteen..."
Sui Xun said, "You know you are fifteen. Have you seen any young man who is fifteen and still cries like you? At your age, others would have married and had children, but you are still laughing and playing all day long. You are neither good at literature nor martial arts..."
Seeing that Sui Xun was going to scold him until dark, Sui Yan quickly rushed forward, hugged Sui Xun's waist, and whispered with a nasal tone: "Brother, brother, I was wrong, please don't scold me."
Sui Xun pressed his head and pushed him away, frowning and saying, "I told you not to act like a spoiled child, why won't you listen?"
Sui Yan had no choice but to sit on the chair, lowering his head and playing with the sachet on his waist, listening to Sui Xun's non-stop nagging.
Finally, Sui Xun suddenly asked, "Which girl do you like?"
Sui Yan exerted force with his hands and nearly pulled off the sachet that Duan Mingchong had just tied. He raised his head and said in disbelief, "Second brother!"
"Call me brother." Sui Xun said, "You will be sixteen after the beginning of spring. No matter what, you should have the idea of starting a family and a career."
Sui Yan: “Brother!”
Sui Xun frowned all the time: "I have been in the frontier these years and rarely intervened in your affairs. There is no one else in our family who can take care of you. You should think about your own life."
He finished talking to himself, then looked at Sui Yan, who was almost jumping up in anxiety, and said, "What do you want to say?"
Sui Yan whispered: "I don't want to get married..."
Sui Xun said: "Why? Give me a reason."
Sui Yan tentatively said: "I haven't had enough fun yet..."
Sui Xun remained calm and said calmly, "Do you still want to be whipped?"
Sui Yan's wound on his back had not yet completely healed. He shook his head desperately upon hearing this, smiled flatteringly, and quickly changed his words: "Brother hasn't found a sister-in-law for me yet. According to etiquette, you can't marry before you return home. You can't break the rules of our ancestors."
Sui Xun scolded: "This is an old custom from many years ago. No one follows it now. How can you still believe in it at such a young age?"
Sui Yan said anxiously, "But there are so many nobles in the capital who are like this. If you forget to marry your elder brother, others will probably say something gossipy about you."
Sui Xun looked at him in disbelief: "Why do you care what others say? Isn't it enough to live a good life? No... Wanggui, how come I never knew that you are a person who cares about other people's eyes and gossip? With your usual reckless madness, why don't you think about what others will say about you when you do something wrong?"
Sui Yan stiffened his neck and said, "Anyway, if my brother doesn't find me a sister-in-law, I will definitely not get married first."
Sui Xun pretended to hit him: "Say it again!"
When Sui Yan saw that he couldn't escape, he immediately threw himself into Sui Xun's arms, exposing his back, and made an attitude that said "Go ahead and hit me if you're willing".
Sui Xun was almost pissed off by him.
Sui Xun didn't dare to really hit him, so Sui Yan felt fearless.
The two confronted each other for a while, and Sui Xun finally gave in: "Let's talk about it when I come back at the end of the year."
Sui Yan was delighted: "Brother is coming back this year?"
"Call me brother." Sui Xun said, "If there is no trouble on the border, I will come back once a year. You should take this opportunity to think about your life and give me an explanation when you come back."
Sui Yan didn't want to talk about this anymore, and quickly pulled out a peace charm from his sleeve, saying, "Brother, I went to Xiangguo Temple today to get a peace charm for you. I hope you will have a safe and smooth journey to the border."
Sui Xun frowned, as if unhappy that Sui Yan had changed the subject, but when he heard that he had specifically asked for it, his expression softened.
He took the amulet casually and stuffed it into his sleeve, saying, "Got it. You have to behave yourself in the capital and stop causing trouble for me."
Sui Yan saw that he had been fooled and smiled happily: "Yeah!"
Sui Yan was in a good mood today. After having dinner with Sui Xun, he returned to the yard happily.
However, before he could sit still, Jun Jingxing, who had been waiting for a long time, dragged him back to the room. He first forced him to drink a bowl of medicine, and then pressed him on the bed and pierced him with silver needles to make him look like a hedgehog.
Sui Yanhun's body was like a needle, and he dared not move. He ordered Jun Jingxing, "Give me a candy and put it in my mouth."
Jun Jingxing was washing his hands nearby. Hearing this, he said unhappily, "Behave yourself. Take the needle off before you eat."
Sui Yan had no choice but to endure it. He couldn't stop talking for a moment: "My brother will return to the border tomorrow. He said he left some people for me to command. If you have anything to do, just tell them to do it."
Jun Jingxing paused and asked, "Can you do anything?"
Sui Yan said: "Murder, arson, rape, looting, all are possible."
Jun Jingxing: “…”
Jun Jingxing was originally wondering if Sui Yan knew about his secret actions and was testing him like this, but he didn't expect that he would get such a sentence out of it. He was speechless immediately.
After Sui Yan finished speaking, he closed his eyes and said no more.
Two quarters of an hour later, Jun Jingxing took off all the silver needles on Sui Yan's body, lowered his eyes and said calmly, "No need."
Sui Yan was crawling on the bed to reach for the small wooden box containing candies. Hearing this, he asked in confusion, "Why? Don't you need help now?"
Jun Jingxing shook his head: "I need it, but I won't use anyone from Sui'an Marquis's Mansion."
If the truth ever comes out, it would be best not to involve Sui'an Marquis's Mansion.
Although Jun Jingxing appeared to dislike this young master, he was grateful to Sui Yan for saving his life and giving him an identity that allowed him to appear in public.
Sui Yan said "Oh", and suddenly remembered that he used Jun Jingxing as a shield in his previous life. He asked tentatively: "Then if I need you one day, can you help me?"
Jun Jingxing raised his eyebrows: "Help for what?"
Sui Yan: "Marry me."
Jun Jingxing: “…”
Jun Jingxing directly threw the handkerchief soaked in hot water on Sui Yan's face and said lightly: "If you keep talking nonsense, I will add more bitter herbs next time."
He took back his words "I'm just grateful", and now he was more eager to strangle his savior to death.
Sui Yan felt slapped in the face, and he staggered back onto the bed. Just as he was about to get up, Jun Jingxing came over and held his shoulders.
Sui Yan: “What?”
Jun Jingxing gently folded the handkerchief on his face and said, "Close your eyes."
Sui Yan obeyed and closed his eyes.
The slightly scalded handkerchief was gently placed over Sui Yan's eyes. Jun Jingxing rubbed his temples and said, "What's wrong with your eyes? You're crying like this. Who bullied you?"
Sui Yan held the candy in his mouth and said unclearly: "That idiot Song Xian..."
Jun Jingxing frowned: "You shouldn't cry like this, right?"
"It's okay, just cry for a while. He probably won't dare to come to my house for several months. It's worth it."
Jun Jingxing was simply helpless. He soaked the handkerchief in hot water and changed it three times until Sui Yan's eyes were no longer swollen.
Because there were only four candies a day, Sui Yan used to chew candies like a cow chewing a peony, but now he has to lick a candy for a long time before finishing it. He rubbed his eyes and spit out the candy residue, and reminded Jun Jingxing: "I have to get up early tomorrow morning to see my brother off, remember to call me."
Jun Jingxing was walking out with water in his hand. Hearing this, he just wanted to splash the water on his face. He said unhappily, "Go to sleep."
Sui Yan then huddled into the quilt.
Everything around was silent except for the soft sound of snow falling. Sui Yan felt a little tired after listening for a while, and fell into a deep sleep in a few moments.
He felt that he had just laid down for a while when he was gently pushed awake.
Sui Yan was feeling tired. He struggled for a few times and then huddled back into the quilt.
Jun Jingxing said: "Get up, aren't you going to see your brother off?"
Sui Yan couldn't even open his eyes: "What time is it now?"
"It's just past the hour of Mao."
Sui Yan almost collapsed: "Who gets up so early? Is my brother crazy?"
Jun Jingxing helped him up and said unhappily, "People in the military are used to being on guard all day and night, so they can get up no matter how early it is. Do you think they are like you, who just eat and wait for death every day and only get up at 9:00 p.m."
Sui Yan looked at the dark sky outside, struggled for a long time before getting out of bed with a tired look on his face, and was dressed by Jun Jingxing.
The front yard was brightly lit.
Sui Xun was packing up in the main hall. When he saw Sui Yan coming, he frowned and asked, "Why are you up? Why don't you sleep a little longer?"
Sui Yan said, "Because I was thinking about my brother leaving today, I woke up early and couldn't sleep, so I decided to come and see him off."
Jun Jingxing, who was collecting an umbrella, almost broke the bamboo ribs. His lips twitched, thinking to himself, this year, Wang Gui really dares to say anything. Why is he tossing and turning and can't sleep? Is he tossing and turning and not wanting to get up from bed?
Sui Xun knew what kind of person his younger brother was, so he didn't expose him. He just said "hmm" softly, "It's snowing heavily outside, there's no need to send me off. Just go back to sleep."
Sui Yan forced himself to hold back the urge to yawn and shook his head: "I'd better send my brother out of the city."
He glanced at Sui Xun's waist and saw a small purse made of a piece of soft leather hanging on the waistband of the hunting jacket.
Sui Yan was a little surprised, his brother was very efficient and had always been annoyed by such hanging things. Normally, he was too lazy to wear jade pendants even when wearing court robes. This was the first time he saw Sui Xun wearing something around his waist.
Sui Yan asked curiously, "Brother, this purse is quite unique. Who gave it to you? Could it be my future sister-in-law?"
Sui Xun scolded: "Nonsense."
Sui Yan was about to say something else when suddenly an idea flashed in his mind. He took a closer look at the crudely made purse and found a yellow corner - it was the amulet he had asked for yesterday.
Sui Yan suddenly smiled widely, and even his sleepiness disappeared.
Sui Xun reached out and gently tapped his forehead, and said helplessly: "Why are you grinning like that?"
Sui Yan said: "I only laugh when I am happy."
Seeing that he was still so carefree, Sui Xun felt relieved but also worried. He walked forward, put his arms around the back of Sui Yan's head and pressed him against his shoulders. He sighed softly and thought to himself, "It would be great if you could always be this happy."
Sui Yan sent Sui Xun to the city gate. The soldiers guarding the city had already received orders to open the gate. Sui Xun, dressed in hunting clothes and riding on a tall horse, led a group of soldiers in silver uniforms, and marched towards the heavy snow in a mighty manner.
Sui Yan stood at the city gate, watching the trampled snowfield being covered again by heavy snow. The silver army merged with the sky and quickly disappeared into the horizon.
Jun Jingxing held an umbrella for him and did not encourage him.
Sui Yan stood there for an hour, until the morning sun suddenly burst out in the sky. He then gently stroked his long hair that was matted with frost and whispered, "Let's go back."
The snow is as heavy as a mat at dawn, and the whole place is three parts white after we said farewell at the long pavilion.
