Chapter 21

Chapter 21

The scent in the car was incredibly familiar to him. He wondered if Lin Shengwen had kept the perfume in the car's storage space and sprayed it on the car seat every day before driving out. Liang Xun followed Lin Shengwen's gaze and looked into his beautiful eyes.

It took a long time for me to react.

It was as if Lin Shengwen's words entered his ear and slipped out the other ear intact before passing through his brain. Liang Xun stared at Lin Shengwen stiffly. He blinked, and after a while, he finally pieced together a complete sentence from Lin Shengwen's moving mouth.

But he still suspected that he had heard it wrong.

He forcefully kissed Lin Shengwen? What a joke! How could he have the guts to do such a thing? Wait a minute, if he was drunk and lustful, and really went up to kiss Lin Shengwen secretly...it wasn't completely impossible.

His mind was in a mess. Liang Xun opened his lips but couldn't find his voice. Seeing that Lin Shengwen was getting closer to him, he subconsciously reached out and pressed against Lin Shengwen's chest.

The fabric of the clothes revealed the body temperature underneath, and the feel of Lin Shengwen's chest under his palm made Liang Xun unable to stop, but now was obviously not the best time to let Huaxin take the lead.

"—Are you kidding me?"

When he saw Lin Shengwen nodded and verified the authenticity of the matter, Liang Xun felt even more confused, but he knew that no matter what, he should apologize first.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I just... I don't know how I could do such a thing."

"No need to apologize." Lin Shengwen grabbed the hand that was pressing on his chest, put Liang Xun's left hand into his palm, and brought it down.

Liang Xun subconsciously bit his lower lip. He said a little depressedly: "When I get drunk, I have no memory of the previous night when I wake up the next day. I know I shouldn't have snatched your wine that day. I just..."

He reached the end of his words but could not continue. He himself could not sort out his emotions, let alone reveal them all in front of Lin Shengwen.

Liang Xun wanted to pull his hand back, but Lin Shengwen refused. He just opened his tightly curled fingers little by little and rubbed his palm twice with his fingertips.

It felt a little itchy, and Liang Xun shrank back.

"What do you mean by letting me be responsible for you?"

"Literally."

Lin Shengwen had beautiful eyes, and he blinked as he spoke these words. At that moment, Liang Xun seemed bewitched, his blinking movements broken down into slow-motion frames, so clear that he could almost hear the amplitude of each of Lin Shengwen's eyelashes fluttering.

Liang Xun simply gave up. He could no longer fight against his instincts.

"Yes... I do have feelings for you. I know this shouldn't be the case. You trusted me and let me have a fake marriage with you, but I fell in love with you. I've betrayed your trust... If you mind, I'll end this as soon as I'm done dealing with you, the Vice Dean. I'll move out, and I can file for the divorce. I won't cause you any trouble."

Liang Xun's tone was restrained by force, appearing calm and as if nothing had happened.

Only Liang Xun himself knew that the huge wave in his chest was about to break him down. His inside and outside were split into two halves, so split that they seemed to no longer belong to the same person.

Liang Xun closed his eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, Lin Shengwen suddenly moved closer to him and gave him a light kiss on the lips like a dragonfly touching the water.

"Did I ever say I minded?"

Lin Shengwen moved away a little, but was still very close to him. The two people's breathing intertwined and their heartbeats were almost in sync.

Liang Xun heard Lin Shengwen continue to speak, with some indiscernible grievance in his tone, as if to refute Liang Xun's self-blame.

"If I minded, why would I ask you to be responsible for me?"

Liang Xun was out of control, unable to speak coherently and stammering.

"You, what do you mean?"

Lin Shengwen looked at him and said sincerely, "Liang Xun, I've never been in love before. You may not believe it..."

"I believe it." Liang Xun interrupted him and said firmly.

Lin Shengwen chuckled, rested his forehead against his, and spoke in a gentle tone.

"So, I dare not promise you anything easily, but if you are willing, we can give it a try."

"Try...try what?" Liang Xun didn't move, his eyes blinking helplessly twice.

Lin Shengwen kissed him again.

"——Love Trial."

Liang Xun's cheeks were burning all the way. He covered his face and thought absentmindedly about the conversation just now and Lin Shengwen's active kiss.

He seemed to be dreaming, but when he pinched his cheek, the pain came to him without any restraint, forcing Liang Xun to accept this as reality.

What exactly should be done during the probation period? Lin Shengwen said that he had never been in love, but Liang Xun was the same. His first love was a secret crush on Lin Shengwen. Although this secret crush lasted for a long time, he did not date anyone during that period. How could he know what an ordinary relationship is about?

A date? But because the progress between him and Lin Shengwen was completely out of order, they got the marriage certificate right from the start, and they lived in the same house. Lin Shengwen even cooked for him for such a long time. Take today for example, even the wedding ring was already on his finger... If you think about it this way, he and Lin Shengwen had basically done everything except not revealing their affection. If you have to say it, they had never actually slept together... But Liang Xun had never imagined this level.

The heat on Liang Xun's face never subsided. He pinched himself again and came to his senses, only to find that the road ahead did not seem to be the direction back to Dajiang Yuehua.

Where is Lin Shengwen going to take him?

Perhaps noticing his puzzled look, Lin Shengwen explained, "Let's go to the Empire Hotel for dinner. You haven't eaten anything since noon, have you?"

"Oh, that's right." Liang Xun thought to himself, instead of eating out, it would be better for him to go back and eat Lin Shengwen's homemade food.

Lin Shengwen seemed to be able to see through all his thoughts and followed up with a sentence.

"We haven't officially been on a date yet, so why don't we just eat out today?"

After Lin Shengwen asked this question, Liang Xun had no way to refuse. He nodded his head and said "Okay". He put his hands down from his cheeks, but was at a loss. He unconsciously used his other hand to stroke the ring on his ring finger, turning the diamond side to the inside of his palm, and then turning it back, unable to rest.

On Friday night, the evening rush hour came earlier than usual. Lin Shengwen took a detour to avoid the most congested main road, but when he arrived near the Empire Hotel, he was still caught in the traffic flow and had to stop and go at a snail's pace along the way.

After parking the car in the hotel's ground parking lot, Lin Shengwen led Liang Xun in and upstairs.

When the elevator door opened, Liang Xun reacted and asked Lin Shengwen nervously, "Shouldn't the restaurant at the Imperial Hotel be booked about a week in advance? Can I get in without a reservation?"

Lin Shengwen didn't say anything, but just took him a few steps forward and introduced his name to the waiter outside the lobby.

"Mr. Lin, are you two here? Please come in." The waiter whispered a few words into the intercom microphone, and another waiter came in and took them to the window seat. He also confirmed with Lin Shengwen the chef's special set menu that he had reserved when booking the table.

Liang Xun was stunned. In the interval between when the waiter finished one dish and brought the next one to the set menu, he finally couldn't help but complain.

"Did you make the reservation a long time ago? Why?"

A guess flashed through his mind, which might not be correct, but assuming that Lin Shengwen had thought of today's process early on, that after buying the ring, he would force him to ask whether he liked him, and then make sure that Liang Xun would admit it, and then bring him to such an exquisite dinner... In essence, the result is good, but why does the process make him feel cheated?

Liang Xun felt a little annoyed when he thought about this, and his words gradually became out of control.

"What if I didn't confess to you today?"

Lin Shengwen's expression was calm: "We can still have dinner even if the relationship is not confirmed. It won't affect us."

He acted so naturally that if it weren't for him, Liang Xun would have wanted to applaud him. However, he didn't expect Lin Shengwen's next words to completely froze him.

"The first time you took me to see the house, I later heard that Mingsheng was holding a celebration party here. You didn't go to the celebration party to accommodate my schedule, right?"

Lin Shengwen's implication was to make up for Liang Xun's regret that time.

But Liang Xun asked the wrong question: "Lin Shengwen... Who told you that? Did President Lin tell you?" He was still upset that Lin Shengwen had perfectly predicted all his reactions. He expressed his first doubts in a moment, and after a while realized that he had said the wrong thing and covered his mouth.

Lin Shengwen's movements paused for half a second. He put down his fork and wiped his lips with a napkin.

"You know?"

"No, I don't know," Liang Xun retorted without thinking, then waved his hand, taking back his previous words, "I also heard it, I don't know whether it's true or not... I didn't expect it to be true."

Lin Shengwen raised his eyebrows, and Liang Xun confessed everything. He told about how he was dragged around by Chen Guangquan at the entrance of Mingsheng. His colleagues from the General Affairs Department witnessed the scene, and later there were rumors that he was Lin Yunshen's younger brother.

Liang Xun said, "I really didn't notice that you and General Lin don't look particularly similar."

"I look like my mother." Lin Shengwen explained, cut the venison steak in his hand, picked up a piece with a fork and brought it to Liang Xun's mouth.

Liang Xun chose fish in the set meal, so Lin Shengwen cut off a piece of venison for him to taste. Under his gaze, Liang Xun's nose moved, and then he opened his lips and bit the steak.

"I have no other intentions, and I don't mean to pry into your family affairs." Liang Xun defended.

Lin Shengwen looked at him calmly: "Why do you always misunderstand me and accuse me of things you don't need? I have never blamed you."

Liang Xun was a little happy and chewed the meat twice before swallowing it.

"……tasty."

Lin Shengwen smiled again.

“If you have anything you’re curious about, just ask,” he said, “and I’ll tell you.”

Liang Xun's nose twitched, and he endured the sour feeling from the inside of his nose. He replied sullenly, "Okay, I understand."
