Chapter 191 Bad News

Qin's mother felt heartbroken at Yao Yao and Wang Yaozong's pitiful plight. Not only did she take good care of them and treat them like her own children, but she also showered them with the love of an elder and even gave Yao Yao and Wang Yaozong clothes that her own children no longer wore.

With Qin's mother's small courtyard, things gradually got on track.

After five months, Mu Run's belly grew as big as a balloon.

Because she was carrying twins, she had to eat a lot every day, and she was worried that the two babies might be lacking some nutrients. After all, there are no vitamin supplements or similar nutritional supplements in this world. They can only get their nutrition from food.

But she was also worried that if the baby ate too much, it would cause complications during childbirth, so she didn't dare eat too many starchy foods, mostly just various fruits and vegetables. Qin's mother said she was like a rabbit goddess, always either eating various vegetables or on her way to eat them. Especially cabbage; she could eat a whole head of it in a day!

The weather is getting colder and colder, and strong winds are blowing at night, so it looks like it's going to snow.

Qin's mother made a pot of chicken stew with cabbage. Mu Run and Yao Yao ate until their bellies were round and full, while Wang Yaozong finished off what they left behind.

Mu Run brought out a deck of modern playing cards. Several people sat on the warm kang (heated brick bed) and played cards together.

The small room was filled with lively laughter.

The cold wind outside can't even squeeze in.

The capital city, just a hundred miles away, is the Grand Commandant's residence.

The sound of the night watchman's drum came from afar, indicating that it was already past midnight.

Fu Yunchen put down the book in his hand, slowly raised his head, and looked at the tightly closed window. The biting cold wind outside howled as if it wanted to rush in, but there was no gap for it to slip in.

Fu Yunchen's gaze inadvertently fell on a bean-shaped lamp hanging on the wall. His strangely colored eyes suddenly narrowed, as if something had stung him.

He rose from the table, the candlelight illuminating his slender, bamboo-like figure. His thin lips were tightly pressed together, revealing neither joy nor anger, yet there seemed to be a hint of bitterness in his expression.

A faint rumble of thunder sounded, the wind outside suddenly stopped, and snowflakes began to fall sparsely.

It started slowly, but gradually the speed increased, and soon a thin white blanket was spread on the ground.

Fu Yunchen walked to the window and opened it.

Instantly, a chilling gust of air entered the room.

A figure was standing in the corridor not far away.

It seems like a long time has passed, and snowflakes have already fallen onto half of my body.

"What news?" Fu Yunchen asked. His voice was hoarse and strained, as if he hadn't spoken in a long time and was unaccustomed to it.

Qiao Dongzi's face turned pale. "Downstream, we found a female corpse, so decomposed it was unrecognizable. But judging from her size, it was about the right size, and not far from the body, there was a waist tag from the Grand Commandant's office, with something engraved on it..."

Suddenly, thunder roared in the sky, lightning flashed, and a cold wind suddenly rose, extinguishing the candles in the room, leaving only a small lamp on the wall.

The dim light behind him shrouded his face in darkness, making him look like a ghost!

Qiao Dongzi dared not look at Fu Yunchen. He now resembled a lost soul consumed by revenge. The appearance of that woman had finally made him feel human again. But her death had extinguished that spark of hope.

A cold wind, carrying ice and snow, lashed at his face, but Fu Yunchen didn't feel cold. His whole body felt as if all his strength had been drained, and his voice was as thin as a thread, ready to snap at any moment.
