Chapter 42 Eavesdropping

...

That night, most of the people in the Prime Minister's residence were asleep.

Mu Run soaked her feet in hot water to relieve the day's fatigue. She didn't remove her makeup; she wasn't planning to rest yet.

She was waiting, waiting for everyone in the servants' quarters to rest.

About half an hour later, Mu Run left the room and tiptoed away from the dark servants' courtyard.

During the day, she was the lowest-ranking servant in the Prime Minister's mansion and could not freely go to the courtyards of the masters, so she could only come out at night.

Walking through the garden of the Prime Minister's residence, Mu Run looked around and proceeded cautiously, following the location of the Prime Minister's study that she had inquired about during the day.

The Prime Minister's residence was a large mansion with seven courtyards. Her servants' quarters were located in the most remote northwest corner of the seventh courtyard, while the Prime Minister's study was located in the third courtyard. She had to pass through most of the Prime Minister's residence to get there, including through a hanging flower gate guarded by guards.

After wandering around for most of the day, Mu Run was a little dizzy.

"...Mmm...Young Master Rong...I miss you so much!"

The woman's voice faintly reached Mu Run's ears.

Mu Run stopped and looked in the direction from which the delicate moan came. It was a small courtyard with a lantern hanging above the gate. Two characters were clearly engraved on the lintel: Luan Que (鸾雀).

A loud clapping sound rang out.

Mu Run's eyelids twitched upon hearing this.

She immediately turned and left; she had no interest in eavesdropping on people's business.

"You slut! You're eating what's in your bowl while eyeing what's in the pot!" A hoarse, gruff shout rang out, panting heavily.

Mu Run suddenly stopped in her tracks; the voice sounded somewhat familiar.

It looks like... a lame shrimp?!

Mu Run didn't rush to the Prime Minister's study. Instead, she quietly crouched down behind the flowering tree by the entrance. Fortunately, she was petite, and the tree completely concealed her.

In the sky, a bright crescent moon illuminated the heavens and earth, and Mu Run looked up to admire it with boredom.

After an unknown period of time, the words spoken by the man and woman were no longer obscene or vulgar.

"I've been ordered to investigate this Yun Rong. You need to keep an eye on his every move in the Prime Minister's residence. I'll come back to see you in three days."

"Is there a problem, Young Master Yun?"

"There isn't one at the moment, but it's precisely because there are no problems that the higher-ups ordered an investigation."

"How about we try using our beauty to recruit him into our own ranks?" The woman's voice was alluring and seductive when she mentioned using her beauty, making one's heart itch with desire.

A crisp slap rang out again.

"Well~" the woman groaned, "I was just fantasizing. Young Master Yun is unparalleled in his handsomeness, as pure as the bright moon. How could he possibly look at someone as filthy as me? If I wanted to seduce him, I would find someone else."

"The higher-ups are also interested in recruiting him, but they need to make sure he's not a problem first. That's the antidote for next month."

"Thank you, Brother Guo. You're the one who loves your sister the most."

"Good to know."

The sounds that made one blush and their heart race filled the room again...

Mu Run raised her hand to rub her forehead and continued to wait.

...

The wind stopped and the rain ceased, then there was a knock on the door.

Just as Mu Run was about to fall asleep, she suddenly woke up, gently shifted her body, and hid herself even more concealed.

The steady footsteps drew closer and closer to the courtyard gate.

Mu Run listened to the footsteps, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes... Shrimp Cripple walks with a limp, which is easy to distinguish, while this is the footstep of a normal person.
