Bai Shalu did not rashly lead people in.
Fu Yunchen arrived with Zhong Jiu.
Looking at the abandoned house, Zhong Jiu whispered, "There's no plaque on this house, whose is it?"
Bai Shalu examined the red nanmu wood gate. Years of wind and rain had left it with some signs of age, but no signs of decay. However, the copper nails on the lock were heavily rusted, and it seemed that even a key couldn't open it. "It must have been a wealthy family's house."
Fu Yunchen gave a soft shushing sound, signaling them to be quiet and listen to the conversation inside.
"Master, the palace is heavily guarded; we cannot enter."
"No matter how strict the security measures are, we must bring those twins out within three days."
“Master, it’s not so easy to steal twins. They were all lost on the eighth day of the lunar month.”
"On the eighth day, we were just unlucky and ran into the Prince of Chongyang. Recently, the Prince of Chongyang has been frequently leaving the palace to investigate the old traitor Goufu, so we can take this opportunity to enter the palace."
"Why has that old bastard Goufu suddenly stopped moving? Could something have happened to him?"
"You all go out of the city tomorrow morning and check on that old guy. Don't run away at the last minute. The elixir of the Dragon Vein Mountain Beast is still in his hands."
"The Liu residence was burned down. What happened? Did they trace it back to our Hongmo Sect?"
"It was Zou Zhongzheng, the Vice Minister of Works, who was investigated for soliciting prostitutes and implicated Liu's residence."
"Should we continue with the blood-activating treatment tonight?"
"You don't need to worry about the blood circulation issue. First, try to find the twins."
"That's difficult. How about we look for twins somewhere else? They're rare, but not impossible."
“Imperial offspring are not comparable to ordinary people. The leader’s idea is that the child should ideally be the Empress’s.”
...
Fu Yunchen left two bodyguards to keep watch, then led his men away from the abandoned house.
Instead of returning to the palace, he went to the residence of Bai Shalu, which was closest to the abandoned house.
The Bai family mansion had many servants, including three gatekeepers. The entire mansion was brightly lit, as if it were daytime.
Fu Yunchen rarely visits the Bai residence, and even less so at night. "You have quite a few people in your household."
“Well, most of them were sent by my mother-in-law to serve Xiao Huan,” Bai Shalu said.
"Where is Xiao Huan?" Zhong Jiu asked. "Is she in the manor?"
Bai Shalu said, "No, Zhongqiu didn't come back to my place, she went directly to Shuncheng."
Upon arriving at the study, Bai Shalu dismissed the servants, telling them not to approach and attend to him.
Fu Yunchen looked around Bai Shalu's study, and saw the official documents piled up on the table.
He walked over, picked up a document, glanced at it, and then put it down again: "The Flood Demon Cult, does anyone know about it?"
Bai Shalu looked at Zhong Jiu, his meaning clear: he didn't know. But Zhong Jiu had been wandering the martial world for years, seeing and hearing all sorts of things, and knew far more than he did.
Zhong Jiu remained silent for a moment, then shook his head. "Never heard of it. This Hongmo Sect must be newly established."
Fu Yunchen said, "They've set their sights on Huanhuan and Tuantuan."
"What?!" Zhong Jiu's expression changed drastically.
Bai Shalu exuded a menacing aura, his tone laced with banditry, "Take down their lair immediately."
Fu Yunchen tapped the table with his long fingers. "The leader of the Hongmo Sect has not yet appeared. Let's wait a little longer. The palace must be on high alert at all times, especially regarding anyone who comes into contact with Huanhuan and Tuantuan. We must be wary of whoever they are."
"What about His Majesty?" Baishalu asked.
Fu Yunchen replied, "I'll talk to her."
Qiao Dongzi knocked on the door and came in. "Boss, they've planted explosives over the dry well. It could explode at any time."
