When they got off the carriage, Liu Lao Er handed Mu Run a face shield. "The eldest brother said that no one should see your face, so please bear with it and wear the face shield for now."
Mu Run frowned; this thing was obstructing her vision, making things blurry.
"No need to wear this, I'll change my makeup myself." Mu Run returned to the carriage and took out a delicate little wooden box from her sleeve. Inside were some cosmetics, rouge and powder. The quantity was a bit small, but everything was complete.
While waiting, Liu Lao Er saw a toy vendor selling children's toys not far away, including wooden masks. He thought that Mu Run's face was thin and small, so it should be able to fit.
So I went and bought a cat face mask.
When Mu Run emerged from the carriage, her face had changed completely.
Her once bright, dark almond-shaped eyes had been transformed into triangular eyelids, diminishing their charm by more than half. Her small, diamond-shaped lips, altered by the lipstick, appeared vulgar and clumsy. Her crescent-shaped eyebrows had been painted wide, thin, and messy, and her skin was dull and lackluster. Brown spots dotted her cheeks, and her hair, which had been styled in a girl's bun, had been styled into a round bun like a married woman's, adorned with a wooden hairpin. Finally, she wore a coarse, earth-colored cloth dress... making her look exactly like a woman who had weathered many storms.
Liu Lao Er rubbed his eyes, completely incredulous, "Sister-in-law?"
Mu Run smiled, revealing a set of lovely white teeth, "Yes."
"Don't laugh." Liu Lao Er sighed in admiration; this disguise technique was simply amazing.
Mu Run covered her mouth. "Is that cat mask you're holding for me?"
"Yes, but given how she looks now, she doesn't need to wear it at all."
"It's so cute, I'll use it from now on." Mu Run took the cat mask and put it in the carriage. "Now can I go shopping?"
"Sure, sure. Even the eldest brother wouldn't recognize his sister-in-law looking like this."
“He can recognize me. I even wore makeup at the Prime Minister’s residence, but he saw through it at a glance.”
"The boss is indeed the boss!"
"Yes, he is indeed very capable." She couldn't deny that even if she wanted to.
"What would you like to buy, sister-in-law?"
“Let’s buy jewelry first. I once asked Lao Yang how many women there are in our village, and he said there are more than 700. Let’s buy 800 sets, so that everyone can have one.”
"Sister-in-law, you're awesome!" Liu Lao Er clasped his hands in a fist salute.
Mu Run laughed and said, "It's all your boss's money, thank him."
Liu Lao Er said, "The eldest brother won't buy things for the people in the village. He'll just give the money to Lao Yang and let him make the arrangements."
"Old Yang has a tough job, managing everything inside and outside the home. Hey, you know, Old Yang has been a widower for years, should we introduce him to a second wife?"
"Who are you introducing?"
"How about Sister Cai? Look, Sister Cai is single too. It would be perfect for the two of you to live together."
"Sister-in-law is still the best!" Liu Lao Er gave a thumbs up.
“During the time I was making tea, I was busy day and night, and Sister Cai was busy with me too. In addition to preparing food and drinks for me, Lao Yang would always prepare an extra portion for Sister Cai. One night, when we were frying tea leaves, Sister Cai accidentally burned them. She felt guilty and went to a corner to cry. Lao Yang went over to comfort her. When I saw the two of them like that, I felt that there was hope.”
The two of them walked into a jewelry store called Jin Gui Lou while talking.
As soon as they entered, the shop's waiters came over, but seeing Mu Run's shabby appearance and Liu Lao Er's mud-covered clothes, they immediately raised their chins and looked down on them, saying, "Go away, go away, do you think just anything can come into our Golden Osmanthus Restaurant?"
